This paper discusses the qualities of a leader including honesty, inspiring others, confidence, empowering others, communication, accountability, and clear vision. Possessing these qualities can help a leader guide their team towards success.

A Leader is a person who gives direction to the other people. A leader is an individual
who plays a dominant role in its field and has a control to influence others. In this paper, the
discussion will be made on the qualities of a leader. If a person is a leader then it is important or
he or she too possesses the qualities of a leader so that activities can be conducted in a right
direction. If they are not able to give correct direction then it cannot possible for the employees
to complete the task with efficiency and dedication (Copeland, 2014).
There are many qualities that are possessed by a leader. First is related with honesty and
integrity. It is one off the important that should be there in a leader. The leaders should not be
afraid in communicating truth with the people or with the team members. Honesty is related with
being truthful and to create trust. Honesty results in good and productive relationships. If the
leader is honest then it can be easy for the employees to trust and conduct the activities with
more dedication (Hasan, 2017).If honesty is not there is a leader then it is not possible to achieve
success. Inspiring others is also the quality that should be possessed by a leader. It has been seen
that it is difficult for a leader to persuade other to follow the commands (Daft, 2014). So, in this
it is important to inspire the followers by giving or setting a good example. In difficult situation
it is the leader only who manages all the activities but if the situation is managed in a proper
manner then they will follow you. It is important for the leader to think positive and this positive
approach should be visible to the other people so that they can follow them (Higgs and
Dulewicz, 2016). In difficult situation a good leader keep the motivation high and also stay calm
so that activities can be controlled in an effective manner. Therefore, it is essential that leader
should have an inspiring personality so that employees can follow them and conduct the
activities according to their directions (Boyatzis, 2016).
Next is related with the confidence. It is important for a leader to be confident so that
others can follow the commands in a proper manner. If the leader is not confident on his or her
decisions then it is difficult for the employees to accept the decisions. The best quality about the
leader is that they are confident towards the actions which they take. They have the confident
that the decision which is taken by them will give positive impact on the activities. Empowering
others is also considered as a quality of a leader (Fransen et al., 2017). It is seen that great leaders
focuses on enhancing the productivity level of the employees. They believe that for motivating
people to give their best it is important that they should have the understanding of ownership

towards their work so that they can empower others. Clear goals and deadlines should be
communicated to the team members so that they can complete the assigned task on time. The
employees face challenge at the time of conducting the activities but leaders encourage them to
be creative and also innovative towards the work (Lawton and Páez, 2015). A leader is a good
communicator. Leaders communicate the clear vision to the team and communicate with them,
the strategy to attain the goal so that employees can work accordingly to get positive outcome
(Sun, Pan and Ho, 2016). If the leader is not able to communicate in a proper manner then it can
give adverse effect on the overall activities done by the employees. If a person is a good
communicator then only he or she can be a good leader. It has been seen that words have the
power to motivate others (Webster, 2018).
Accountability is also the quality that should be possessed in a leader. When
accountability is considered then it is seen that leaders should focus on the approach which is
stated by Arnold H Glasow. He told that a good leader is the one who considers little more than
his share of the blame and less share of the credit. It is important for the leader to ensure that the
employees are accountable for the activities which they are doing (Nei et al., 2018). If the
employees are conducting the activities in a proper manner then it is important for the leader to
give appreciation so that they can be motivated, and if they are not performing according to the
expectation level then it is important to realize the mistake and work with them together. When
the leader holds them for their actions then it will enhance the sense of responsibility among the
subordinates and also they will conduct the activities with dedication. To share their vision is
also considered an effective quality of leader (Northouse, 2017). A leader with vision can have a
clear idea of what they want to do and how they will achieve success, it is important to focus on
the clear vision so that the team understands how the individual efforts will contribute towards
the high-level goals. When a leader is personally conducting the activities towards the vision
with dedication then it will give a positive impact on others and inspire other employees to do
the same. The leader should share their vision with the employees (Joseph et al., 2015).
Therefore, by evaluating the paper it can be concluded that leaders should have the
qualities of honesty and integrity, inspiring others, confidence, empowering others,
communication, accountability and clear vision. If these qualities are possessed in a leader then it
can be easy for the employees to conduct the activities in a right direction. To conduct the

activities in a right manner an employee always needs a leader. Therefore, if these qualities are
then the company can easily accomplish goals and objectives in an effective manner. By seeing
these qualities the employees will also be motivated and conduct the activities with proper
guidance and obey the decisions or the instruction given by a leader. To be an effective leader
these qualities should be possessed in an individual.
