INTRODUCTION
For every business organization, human resources management is considered as one of
the most essential and effective approach which assist in conducting different organisational
functions in an appropriate manner and attain in accomplishing objective sand goals.
Management practices includes training, hiring, recruiting and various other activities which aid
in developing, creating as well as managing all the functions associated with human resources.
All these strategies and policies help management team of the company in order to grab
opportunities available at external environment (Muñoz-Nava and et. Al., 2020). ASDA is
chosen as the base company in the current project. It is a British supermarket retail chain
founded in the year 1949, headquarters is situated in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Company mainly
deals in variety of products and are specialised in groceries, financial services and general
merchandise. The present written document includes discussion about the functions, purpose,
scope of HRM along with significance and role of workforce planning. In addition to this, detail
analysis of different recruitment and selection process are going to be included in the current
project. Furthermore, essential elements of employee legislations and their impact on the
decision making process are mentioned in the present report. At last implementation of HRM
practices are examined in detail which consist of job specification, curriculum vitae, offer letter.
TASK 1
P1 Definition, function and purpose of human resource management
Meaning of HRM
Human Resource Management define as the adopted by business organisations so that
they can provide effective facilities to their staff members working in the company. This as a
result help in maintaining performance and behavioural patterns of the workers with the purpose
of which ,they can easily perform their functions in an appropriate and effective way.
Significance as well as Purposes of HRM
It is considered as an important process for each and every organization like ASDA, as it assist in
increasing the efficiency of workers in an effective manner (Armstrong and Taylor, 2020). There
are some essential purposes for HRM which are mentioned in detail as follows:
To develop a secure and positive working atmosphere within the workplace where every
worker can easily perform their business functions in an appropriate way.

To ensure that the business organisation is well equipped and have all the safety as well
as security measures so that employees feel motivated and encouraged. .
To create a positive and corporative working atmosphere where legal policies are adopted
in an effective and ethical manner which develop discrimination free working situation.
Functions of HRM
There are ample number of functions conducted by human resource managers so that
they can easily done their work and produce positive outcomes (Chelladurai and Kerwin, 2018).
These functions help in attaining organizational goals and objectives in an appropriate manner
and within given time period. Some of the most essential functions are discussed below in a
detail manner in reference to ASDA.
Recruitment and selection: Recruitment refers to that function of human resource
management where the main motive of an organization is to grab attention of large number of
people towards them so that they can fulfil the job vacancy by hiring capable candidates. In the
present context of ASDA, the recruitment and selection function hold the role of hiring skilled
and qualified person so they can fill the vacant job position. Whereas, the responsibility of
human resource manager is to recruit capable candidate as soon as possible when the vacancy
arises at workplace.
Training and development: It is the another most essential function which emphasize
on the execution of training and development sessions in order to enhance the knowledge, skills
and capabilities of individuals according to the changing environment situations. In reference to
ASDA, role of this function is to enhance the skills and knowledge of worker sin order to
execute all the required task in a proper manner. In addition to this, responsibility hold by this
function is to improve the skill of employees working within the organization so that they can
perform all the functions in an effective way (Berman and et. Al., 2019).
Workforce Planning
It define as an indispensable process associated with human resources management and is
mainly concerned with analysis of required and current workforce so they can attain their goals
and objectives in an effective manner.
Importance of Workforce Planning
It is said that workforce planning plays very significant role in the accomplishment of business
objectives of an organisation. In the present context, manager of ASDA conduct workforce
