REFLECTION 1
Introduction
A leader is a person who motivated, inspires, as well as builds the people. The leader
also tends to create the vision as well as encourage the team members in order to achieve
their own goals. I have also come across leadership in my educational and life experiences.
Therefore, I learned various concepts related to it such as socially aware, self-aware as well
as displaying the behavioural and emotional intelligence, how to work in a team, how to lead
other people, value diversity, building professional relationships as well as using the
strategies to bring necessary changes.
Reflection on personal experience regarding leadership: strengths and weaknesses
Self-awareness is the first topic that I come across in my learning. I understood that
self-awareness is the understanding of own emotions and being able to accept own behaviour
toward the other people. Before entering into various courses, I was not having proper idea
regarding emotional intelligence. Besides this, I did not know how to become an effective
leader. After getting the knowledge from various leadership subjects, I become more self-
aware through self-assessments. I am extrovert because I make decisions through feelings.
Besides this, I also use the perceiving function in order to become more spontaneous and
flexible in life. I also like to talk to people in order to understand better. I have seen that I am
more realistic as I pay more attention to the actual things (Khan et al, 2015).
I also have a good memory because I almost remember every major event that
happened. By getting the view of other people effectively, I believe in making out the best
decision. I always see the good things in other people. Unique energy is seen in me whenever
my deadline is approaching. I also learned about my strength and weakness. The major
strengths include in my personality test are practical, energetic, people oriented, hardworking,
compassionate, kind and organized. These strengths also depict my personality as a future
leader. In relation to the question, where I have been, I can state some of my weaknesses
include negative thinker, being cowardly, ineffective time management, as well as stage fear.
To better understand this, I am stating one of the incidents related to a seminar, which I have

joined approximately one year ago. That seminar includes around 40 people where each day
some of the activities are conducted for the purpose of self-learning and growth. One day, our
teacher conducted a group activity with making of eight groups (5 members in each group).
We have to build a fictional story in 30 minutes and I was as if just how we could do such
thing in just 30 minutes. It was reflecting my negative thinking and when we started making
it, I was not able to think or do any parts of the story until 20 minutes. However, one of my
friends leading the team help me in building my part in just 10 minutes. This reflects my
improper time management. Later on, we have to present our part on the podium (stage) and I
was not able to utter a single word from the paper on that stage. It was reflecting my stage
fear. Therefore, I required working hard on these weaknesses by participating in various
activities. Communication is also one such aspect that requires improvement in my
personality (Bolden, 2016).
From my surrounding leadership experiences, I have learned that change and growth
are significant for survival. The capability to adapt is much more critical in recent time
because the world is changing at a greater phase. I still remember the time when I was
assigned as a leader in-group assignment. I have effectively played the role of leader in order
to lead my team. I followed the participative leadership approach by including each member
in the decision-making. I decided to take the group meeting so that each person has given the
opportunity to share his or her reviews. I have also learned that it is also essential to develop
the self-efficacy and self-confidence in the personality at the time of leading. Sense of
humour at the time of leading also helped me in creating a positive environment at the time of
group project. In addition to this, I have also used the democratic leadership style where
decision of each member was welcomed and valued. This is also the answer to the question
that where am I now? With time and support of peers, I learned out with various leadership
experiences that later on help in my decision-making. However, still, at some place, I feel
that some negative thing has surrounded me blocking my path to self-development.
Sometimes, it seems to be my fear and sometimes it is like lack of knowledge.
Adoption of democratic leadership style also helped me in connecting the team
members to the work. I have seen that members were happy by connecting and encouraging
them to perform well. Therefore, engagement was proved as the main part of my democratic
process. I have also observed that this leadership style has promoted the flow of ideas among
the team members who are involved in project. It is because there was input available at the
time of using this structure. It has also become useful for each of the member in the project
