In the contemporary society, the family structures have changed completely from those
structures that were there in the traditional society. In the traditional society, the structures of the
family were related to an integrated culture of the society. In such a society, the relationship
between the family members and the society comprised of compliance to the society norms and
culture. In the modern society, the patterns of life tend to be heterogeneous although the family
relations are not unstructured. The way in which people interact with each other in the family is
affected by the socio-cultural structures and various other personal regularities. Family structures
have got a major role to play in the health care segment (Foster et al. 2019). The main aim of the
paper is to reflect on the contemporary family’s structures, the family strengths framework and
the way it affects the health care practises.
In fact there have been major changes in the structures of the family in the past century.
These changes have occurred due to the various pressures that have been put on the family
structures from the technological, national and international economies and various other
policies. The concepts of motherhood and families have undergone a change due to the advance
technologies. I have experienced these changes in my own family; my nephews are in the day
care centres because my aunt is a working woman. This shows a change in the motherhood
practises because of the changing economic conditions. Women these days prefer working and
that affects the family structures and their own motherhoods in many cases. Moreover, the way
we interact with our families is different from the way earlier generations of my family
interacted with each other. For instance- there are more nuclear families now as compared to
earlier times and as a result kids belonging to the present era many times feel shy and awkward
in front of their distant relatives. This scenario has been faced by me many times- I have felt
awkward in front of my aunts and uncles because I have been habituated to interacting only with

my parents and siblings. Children these days are more upfront and frank with their parents and
we can discuss many issues with our parents and siblings that the earlier generation were not able
to have. In case of my family also I am appreciated for my activities. We spend a lot of valuable
time with each other and speak frequently with each. That also keeps me stress free and it
improves affection between us. We spend time discussing all the problems that is being faced by
each of us and try to find a solution to those problems together. We have some major family
rules such that we can spend some fun time together such as we have the rule of going out on
every Saturday such that we can have fun together.
Some of these practises have an impact on the health care practises due to a variety of
reasons. The family strength framework has to be understood in this respect. The family strength
framework focuses on showing how healthy family strive and remain strong. These families can
help in providing an influence for other dysfunctional families since these families are more
