Introduction
Existing evidence shows that self-awareness creates an opportunity for further
development as well as personal success. The content of this paper is, therefore, a reflection
exploring the introductory content within the first two modules. The paper further contents on
the relationship between self-awareness and my experience. In addition, the content of this paper
explains how I would explore self-awareness and the knowledge gained from the modules in my
future career as a leader.
Self-awareness
Leadership and team management comes with various challenges that a leader must learn
to adapt. Self-awareness in this manner is key for personal development and a tool to cope up
with the management pressures. It involves ongoing personal development process in all areas
such as making plans, coming up with goals and problem solving. Self-awareness involves
various factors within an individual’s life (Rubens, Schoenfeld, Schaffer & Leah, 2018). The
most immediate factor of our life is personality, it is quite difficult to change, but learning about
one’s personality is useful in various situations. Understanding your personality gives you the
knowledge various situations as well as informs one which ones he can fit in and those to avoid.
It is therefore, very critical when it comes to decision analysis. Another factor to consider when
it comes to self-awareness is ones values. Having a clear understanding of core values is a path
to personal success. Self-awareness also enables us with an understanding of our habits,
emotions and needs. An individual with self-awareness will be able to have experience and an
understanding of the internal process associated with self-control (Higgs & Dulewicz, 2016).

REFLECTIVE ANALYSIS 3
In relation to the first three weeks modules, we have leant various leadership skills that
we can apply as leaders in an organizational situation. Throughout the first module, we learnt
about the nature of organizations, management roles and challenges (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart
& Wright, 2017). We learnt about the trends and changes within organizations that require
leadership evolvement. We were also acquainted with the roles of a manager that is to plan,
organize, lead and control. All these roles can only be achieved with self-awareness (Northouse,
2018). To this reasons managers must be aware of themselves to be able to control and lead
people. Moreover, we also gathered knowledge on various challenges faced by a manager. As a
result, a leader must have self-awareness to be able to make vivid decisions.
Apart from module 1.1, we also learnt in module 1.2 about team motivation, influence,
power and politics within organization. Through the module we learnt various strategies that a
manger should adopt to positively influence and motivate workers towards achieving the
company goals. This requires one to self-aware of the needs and goal setting. When a manager
understands his personal values and needs, he develops the ability make priorities oriented
towards business goal achievement (Daft & Marcic, 2016). Through further studies into module
2.1, we have also gathered knowledge on organizational communication, negotiation and
conflict. We have learnt on various theories relating to management and best ways to solve
organizational conflicts. For an individual to apply justice and use negotiation as a tool for
organizational conflict resolution, one must be self-aware of the situation and its implication as
well as the implication that may arise from his or her decisions (Northouse, 2018).
I believe that various theories we have learnt up to this moment are very critical for me as
a manager. First as a manger, I have been able to learn about my roles and principles that I need
to apply in the future. I have also learnt about management challenges and how these challenges
