Critically evaluate the sort of challenges you expect to face in your graduate year
in relation to scope of practice. (150 words)
While learning about nursing I would be able to develop my understanding regarding the basic
and core information about the area of expertise (Missen, McKenna, Beauchamp, and Larkins,
2016). This will support me in gaining a confidence on my work and I would be able to become a
professional nurse that help in getting a better job. But while learning about it there are several
challenges that I may face such as time management where I have to manage my study at
graduate level along with the clinical practice which creates more stress and may also affect my
performance. This may also become a reason for inappropriate knowledge gain when stress from
both side would be higher as I have to manage several tasks all together such as attending classes,
reading homework, performing assignments, clinical work etc. The inappropriate knowledge can
also be a challenge for me which may restrict me from enhancing my expertise and may also
affect my continuous development (Dyson, 2016). These are certain challenges that I may face at
graduate level while managing toward scope.
Topic 2 – Safety and Quality in Healthcare
In light of the events that occurred at Oakden and the systemic failures in health care
delivery reflected in the Francis Report, is there scope for events of this nature to
occur again?
Yes, there is a scope for the events that occurred at Oakden as well as the systematic failures in
delivery of health care reflected in Francis report. The facility which was provided to people was
grossly substandard which depicted that the state did not render residents with a level of care
they deserve, and that some of the vulnerable and frail individuals in the community of South
Australian were left without a voice, ignored, forgotten as well as left to living in a facility labelled
a disgrace. If the serious complaints regarding care is not addressed properly and the
management have no control over the facility, then there are high chances of occurring this
nature of event again (Oakden report: “It should not have happened. It must never happen
again.”, 2018).
What actions does the current literature and investigations suggest novice nurses
can do to reduce the risk of these types of events reoccurring? (100 words)
In order to reduce the risk of systematic failure in delivery of healthcare, it is very necessary for
the novice nurse to treat all the individuals with equal respect and dignity and also follow the
codes of conduct and standards of health care provided by NMBA during providing the care
services to the patients (Professional standards NMBA, 2020). Apart from this, it is very necessary
to address the serious complaints regarding care in an appropriate manner. The nurse must follow
appropriate management structure and must perform their duties responsibly to ensure that all
the vulnerable people are provided with adequate care and support.
