In a organisation various types of management styles are using that are important and
effective to use in order to increase the organisational productivity and profitability. If
management have good skills and talent then it can use to introduce new products and services so
that performance can be maintain (van Schalkwyk, Diethelm and McKee, 2019). This report is
based on Mr. Jack Marie Henry David Bowles who is the CEO of BRITISH AMERICAN
TOBACCO. This is British American Multinational company manufactures and sells cigarettes,
tobacco and other nicotine products. This organisation was established in 1902, headquarter in
London, England. This is the largest cigarette maker in the world that based on net sales. This
report involves management style, principle and function of management that uses by CEO,
organisational structure for achieving high performance and leadership style of the CEO. Apart
from this, it consider effects of power, influence and conflicts at chosen organisation, types of
motivation, and recommendation that uses by company to increase organisational performance.

BRISTISH AMERICAN TOBACCO is a British American multinational company
which was founded in the year 1902 and became largest cigarette maker in the world analysed by
sales. This organisation is operating business and operation around 180 countries and its cigarette
brand include Kent, Dunhill, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall and Rothmans. Mr. Jack Marie Henry
David Bowles is a great business leader who have different management and leadership style that
helps to manage a business and its operational activities that increases performance and
profitability. This person is possessing good qualities and talent that supported to increase the
sales trend and profit-abilities (Watts, Hefler and Freeman, 2019).
A. Examine the management style and state the principle and functions of management used by
CEO of BRISTISH AMERICAN TOBACCO
A management style is defined as a way that uses by management to works for fulfilling
their goals and objectives. This involves plans, organise, making decision, delegation and
managing their staff in order to complete the task and attain the business goals. IF organisation is
not able to manage the effective management style then it will be difficult to operate and run
their operation effectively. Mr. Jack Marie Henry David Bowles is a great business management

who have control over business activities and using effective management styles. Different types
of management style that are uses by companies are as defined:
Autocratic: This is most top- down approach in which management have power to make
decision and inform their employees. This types of management style is not effective because it
create a feeling of conflicts between employees and punish them in case of not following orders
which is given by management (Devan, Farmery, Peebles and Grainger, 2019).
Transactional management style: This is another type of management style that uses
by management in their organisation for getting the work done and completing task effectively.
In this, changes are accepted by management and employees by sharing with each other and
provide them right suggestions to complete the task in certain period of time.
Mr. Jack Marie Henry David Bowles is following the Transactional management style in
which rewards, incentives and performance appraisals activities are uses that influence them to
work properly and increase the organisational performance. The motto of such manager is “If
you do this for me, I will do this for you” that increases the morale of employees and accepting
changes smoothly. In this, David Bowles adopt new technology and shares with employees that
can help to get new ideas and method of implementation resulted increased in sales and
profitability trend.

Division of work: Jack Bowles segregating work in workforce between employees
helps to enhance the quality of work. This principle is appropriate for management and

marketing activities in order to increase the organisational sales and profitability. The types of
organisational structure are Hierarchical, functional, Horizontal, Divisional, Matrix, and Network
that are following by organisation according to their size and scope. BRISTISH AMERICAN
TOBACCO is following Matrix organisational Structure that is effective structure uses by
Jack Bowles for completing the all projects by maintaining cross functional teams. In this,
management provide proper guidance and direction to employees bring new services and
marketing channel that can help to influence target customers and expand the business
effectively. By using this, management formulates good relations with employees and getting the
work done that increases business performance (Abasilim, Gberevbie and Osibanjo, 2019) .

that are uses according to requirement and managing the all task efficiently. From the above Role
Culture is opted by chosen business leader who analysed that their employees are ambitious,
resilient, and courageous that help to learn quickly and responsive to opportunities that drives
higher performance. This influence employees as they understand their roles and responsibilities
effectively and make efforts to complete their work that leads to higher productivity. The Jack
Bowles says that having a talented workforce in BAT in important factor that helped to engaged
team and delivering better quality of products as well as services that create brand image
(Kushida, and et.al., 2019).
C. Describe the leadership style of the CEO of BRISTISH AMERICAN TOBACCO to enhance
the organisational effectiveness
Leadership style is important factor for business organisation that uses by leader in order
to managing, organising, and directing the employees for getting work done and increasing
organisational effectiveness. Different types of leadership styles are Authoritarian leadership,
participative, Delegation, situational and Laissez Faire leadership style that all are effective and
uses to managing organisational task and performance. Jack Bowles is a good leader in the
business buzz that have different qualities and following Participative leadership style that can
help to increase the business effectiveness (Wolniak, 2020).
Participative leadership style is being used by CEO of BAT that involves team member
should be involve in decision making process. In BAT, by applying this style team member feel
good as their leader also participate in organisational activities and give their contribution to

complete it within fixed period. Whenever organisation decided to bring changes and expand
their business then Jack Bowles is playing important role as they involves and contributes in
organizational goals and complete it given time that maintain high performance and
organisational effectiveness. In this, leader share the information with employees, provide them

task and accepting challenges effectively. Jack Bowles is having different types of leadership
qualities such as honesty, integrity, inspiring, delegation and empowerment, creativity and
innovation, resilience, Humility, transparency, good communicator and accountability that make
different from others and helps to increase the business effectiveness. By using such qualities
selling activities and performance of organisation improves continuously and manages the work
effectiveness. To be an effective leader Jack Bowles is confident enough that ensures employees
are following their command, managing activities, completing task by using their skills and
talent that helps to maintain higher profitability by working collectively in changing business
environment (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, eds., 2019).

Power is the ability and accountability that having in person which can be used in making
the things happen and getting the work done effectively. This is important for organisation that
use power at their workplace positively that can motivate and inspire the employees and get them
ready to work more effectively. BRISTISH AMERICAN TOBACCO is a American
multinational company that operates its business at different location and countries by managing
and organising all activities. Under the French and Raven power model, different types of power
are legitimate, referent, reward, coercion and expert that being used by a person who have
control over all activities and function in organisation and manage the work properly (Nunhes,
Bernardo and Oliveira, 2019).
Jack Bowles is effective business leader who uses reward power at BAT organisation in
order to increase the sales, marketing and profitability ratio. This is larger size organisation
where huge number of employee are working and performing their roles and responsibilities
efficiently. In this, such leader assign the work and task between employees as per their skills
and working experience that support to work productively. The manager is responsible to
evaluate the performance so Jack Bowles uses KPI tool to evaluate the performance and give

wants. This theory has defined as:
Psychological needs: In this, Jack Bowles provide the basic needs such as food, water,
shelter, rest etc. that motivates employees and increase the business performance.
Safety needs: This involves security and safety which provided by management at BAT
which influences the employees and motivate to work more.
Belongingness and love needs: This involves intimation, relationship and friends that
provided by BAT that make feel them good (Greenhawt and et.al., 2019).
Esteem needs: In this, management of BAT provide feeling of esteem, accomplishing
work and respect in front of others that increases motivation level and maintain the good
performance.
Self actualisation: This opportunity is used by employees in BAT as they feel full

Reward based motivation – This motivation is uses by management in order to evaluate
employee's performance and give them rewards for their well performance. Jack Bowles in BAT
uses this motivation by assigning task between employees and monitor their activities that can
help to get information which employees is doing well. This can help to motivate the employees
and increase the interest to work more well (Rudani, 2020).
Achievement Based motivation This motivation is related to achievement of
employees that needs to be complete. The management of chosen organisation uses this
motivation to motivate the employees by assigning task and specify the period that can help to

BRTISH AMERICAN TOBACCO is a cigarette maker company that is operating at
various place by organising and managing the activities. Jack Bowles is the CEO is organisation
who has ability to manage and operate the business effectively. This person is enough skilled and
talented who monitor and control over organisational performance and maintain the higher

profitability. The business of organisation is growing continuously as it provide the different
brand and flavour of cigarettes to customers. For example, the BAT is facing the low sales and
profitability because employees who are working, used traditional marketing and manufacturing
method which has reduced the production and selling activity. In this organisation, employees
were not ready to accept the changes in their production process then Jack Bowles has
introduced transformational leadership. This leadership helped such leader a lot to overcome the
problems and get ready the employees for accepting changes smoothly. Herein, management has
decided to provide training and development programme to all employees who are working so
they can maintain good relation and ready to accept new process of manufacturing resulting
increase in sales and performance (Su, Sheng, Leung and Chen, 2019).
The another example is lack of motivation between employees as they are feeling
partiality at workplace which has resulted incomplete of task. In this situation, CEO of
organisation has adopted Maslow's theory of motivation and reward based motivation that
encouraged employees to work well and get rewards. This increased the organisational
performance by completing task on time and manage the all activities in certain period of time.
G. Based on discussion and debate what suggestions / recommendation strategies are formulated
to increase organisational performance
While studying about BAT and Jack Bowles I noticed many things that should be
required to perform on time. Management is first need in every business that uses to make plans,
organise, directing and controlling the functions which can help to perform well and increase the
organisational effectiveness. From the above discussion and debate I suggests to use effective
strategies and planning in their organisation which can help to improve the business performance
and effectiveness. The first strategy is to use effective leadership style that can help to find out
the problem and provide solution to overcome (Pak and et.al., 2019). Such as Jack Bowles have
participative leadership style which used to involves in each activities and perform the well
which can help to complete task and manage risk. The another strategy is motivation, which
should be provided to employees as per their needs and wants that can make feel good and
increase their morale to work more. Pricing strategy is also effective strategy which can be used
by organisation to set the reasonable and relevant prices of products as well as services which
can be afford by customers easily. This can help to increase the sales and profitability ration in
changing environment. I recommended to BAT and others to make the uses to effective prices

and quality of their products that can help to compete with others resulting higher performance
and profitability. I also recommend that to use the new technology in manufacturing products,
sales, marketing and distribution that can help to reach the potential customers and bring the
higher trend in sales ratio. All above mentioned strategy should be use by organisation that will
support to gain the competitive advantages by expanding business at new locations (Müller and
Apps, 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that leader is a person who understand the
problems of employees and provide them proper guidance that can help to operate the business
and manage the performance. The management should focus on their function and principles at
workplace that helps to increase the effectiveness. Moreover, Maslow, theory is uses to fill the
basic requirement of employees and motivate them to work. The Types of motivation involves
