PART 1 (REPORT)
INTRODUCTION
Business environment is defined as integration of internal and external factors which has
impact on the organisation (Babu, 2012). This includes innovation in technology, political
conditions and so on. The given report is based on Ryanair airlines which was founded in 1984.
It is the largest airline group in Europe that is operating its business in different parts of the
world (History of Ryanair, 2019). This report highlights about business environment using
various tools such as SWOT analysis, PESTLE, Porter's five forces.
MAIN BODY
Analysis of Ryanair business environment
The business environment of Ryanair can be explained with help of different tools such
as: SWOT, PESTLE and Porter's five forces. They are explained below:
SWOT Analysis
The SWOT analysis of Ryanair airlines are as follows:
Strengths- Ryanair has strength of lower cost base which leads consumers to avail
services. As compared to other airline, it has low cost fare which is 37% below easy Jet. It has
network of 1500 route in 28 countries and 178 airport which makes easy for consumers to avail
their products and services (Ryanair SWOT analysis – Michael O'Leary's maniacal focus on
being the lowest cost producer, 2019). It has also strength in terms of fleet, airport choices, fast
turnaround times, ancillary revenues, innovation and financial performance.
Weaknesses- Ryanair has weaknesses in terms of seasonality of earnings as it earn high
during summer season and bear loss during off or winter season. It has low frequencies on routes
as compared to competitors and departure at inconvenient times. There is negative impact of
media for Ryanair as it does not care for consumer's money, uncaring nature and mean.
Opportunities- Ryanair has opportunity in terms of increasing market shares and growth
to expand their business in other places. It has capacity for producing strong financial results
through combining price sensitivity from passengers and capacity of cutting prices from different
competitors.
Threats- There are various threats which can be faced by Ryanair airline from market.
The major threats are its competitors which focus on providing same quality of services at low

cost. External events such as change in climatic condition, weather and other highly impact
airline industry. There is increase in air travel taxes, airport and navigation charge which leads
threats to business to conduct their activities and operations.
PESTLE Analysis
It is defined as environmental factors that assist in scanning of environment component
of strategic management. They are described below:
Political Factors- This factors impact Ryanair airline as there is change in political
condition of government. The respective organisation is low cost and small airline which has
limited destinations where it is operating flights that effect on business. There are frequent
terrorist attack in Europe which has adverse effect on demand of air travel (Ryanair SWOT &
PESTEL Analysis, 2019).
Economic Factors- The economic state of country has greatly impact on airline industry.
This has relation with trade cycles and economy and Ryanair is less affected as compared to
others. When there is reduce in activities then number of passengers are reduced that causes loss
to airline. There is fluctuation in prices of oil which is used in airline firm that also leads to rise
in cost for ticket for passenger which can impact business and their running activities and
operations.
Social Factors- This includes change in trends, demography and so on (Apăvăloaie,
2014). The consumer of Ryanair airline prefer high speed rail for short haul routes as it saves
their cost and time. Passengers are ready to pay more on ancillaries if ticket cost is low. The
respective organisation has to consider their consumer need and demand in order to fulfils their
requirement for maximum profits and gains.
Technological Factors- With the rise in digital technology made life of people make
easy and safe. It is very important for Ryanair airline to provide their passengers with online
booking, availability of tickets, their prices and routes facility so that they can book their tickets
from any parts of the world. For better and improve consumer experience, new and updated
technology should be used in airline industry for high returns.
Legal Factors- Ryanair airline has to follow all legal rules and regulations for their
industry in order to conduct their activities and operations in an effective and efficient manner.
As it has been lawsuit by European Commission at certain airport for receiving state aid. After

Brexit it has made compulsory for airline to follow dual regulation of EU and UK effectively for
positive results.
Environment Factors- There is rise in EU regulations of emissions for airlines that has
increase cost for Ryanair airline. The respective organisation has to focus on environmental
initiatives in order to carry out their activities and operations in effective and efficient manner.
These factors are essential for achieving maximum profits and gains.
Porter's Five Force Model
This model is used to analyse company's competitive environment which assist in making
strategies through which can gain competitive advantage at their potential marketplace
(Babatunde and Adebisi, 2012). They are described below:
Competitive Rivalry- Ryanair has high competitive rivalry as there are many airline
industry operating their business at low cost in same route with respective organisation. It
includes Wizz Air, EasyJet and so on (Ryanair Porter’s Five Forces Analysis, 2019). These
player provide products and services to passengers at low cost which leads respective
organisation to face high competition for surviving at marketplace.
Threats of New Entrants- Ryanair Airline has low threat for new entrants as it is very
expensive to enter into aviation industry. The entry barriers are high as purchasing jets is
expensive which is not possible for all to enter into market and provide services. Therefore, in
order to get slots at airport is tough and costly for new airline and so on.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers- The bargaining power of suppliers are high as there are
only two manufacture of airline such as Airbus and Boeing and they charge high prices from
industry. Ryanair purchase their planes from Boeing and prices are already high which is
difficult for them to do bargaining with them.
Bargaining Power of Buyers- The bargaining power of buyers are also high as there are
many airline industry which provides products and services to their passengers. Ryanair Airline
is facing problem of brand and customer loyalty and prices is high which is not preferred by
consumers as they are loyal towards low fare airline industry.
Threat of Substitutes- The threat of substitutes is low for Ryanair Airline as in European
land, there are other system of travelling such as buses, train and cars which is not cheap and
take long time. The respective organisation provide comparison among rate of their and train fare
and provide best service to passenger in short time period.

CONCLUSION
The report concluded that business environment highly impact on activities and operation
of organisation in both positive as well as negative way. The respective organisation has used
various model such as SWOT, PESTLE and Porter's five force to know about their actual
strength and weakness along with factors which impact their business activities and their power
at market for gaining competitive advantage.
RECOMMENDATION
In order to improve their business activities and operation, recommendation is provided
to Ryanair to achieve success and growth at marketplace. It is recommended to respective airline
to introduce mid time flights services which help them in fulfilling requirement of business
person. Along with this, they can also increase number of their flights services which help in
increasing customer base and profit ratio.

PART 2 (REFLECTION)
INTRODUCTION
Reflective report is defined as writing that summarise critical reflection on given subject
(Corcoran and Gillanders, 2015). This is part of assessment of practical projects which helps to
concluded work. This reflection is based on employability skills which have been learned by
individual to conduct work performance such as research skills, ICT skills and many more.
These skills are experienced by individual while running their business activities and operations.
They have also made plans for improving skills in case if they lack it.
MAIN BODY
In this part, various types of skills which are learned and experienced by me while
conducting project work on business environment are considered that assist in knowing about my
own strengths and weaknesses towards particular skills and their ways of improvement has
discussed here. Some of the major skills which are essential for carrying project work are
described below:
Communication Skills- While conducting project work, I have analysed that my
communication skills is very good as I easily communicated with team member of my group and
they were also satisfied with me. My verbal, oral and presentation skills were effective as I was
leader of team and have to communicate with each and every members working in team. With
respective skills, I and my team member performed task in appropriate manner for completing
given project work. I have to analyse business environment to know about current scenario of
business for better results. Therefore, I helped my colleagues to improve their communication
skills which is most required in each and every field for better outcomes through conducting
training and development, session, participating in public speaking and so on.
ICT Skills- For carrying such project work, we required Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) skills that includes use of software, storage and so on (Craig and Campbell,
2012). I lack this skill as I am from commerce background so it is difficult for me to use those
software of organisation for collecting data and information in an effective and efficient manner.
There were eight members in group out of which four are expert in particular skill so we carried
out work. In context of airline industry, various software were used for collecting data and
information of passenger and provide them good services to increase their customer loyalty and

their base. Therefore, I should take classes for enhancing my ICT skills to work in organisation
for achieving their goal and objectives. The classes and courses include analytical certification,
JAVA, software, data analytics and so on that help me to improve my ICT and technical skills in
appropriate manner.
Research Skills- It is the most important skills which is required for individual (Erasmus,
Strydom and Rudansky-Kloppers, 2016). For carrying out respective project, various research
activities has to be conducted by me to gather appropriate information to achieve project goal in
proper manner. I and my team both research for assigned project to get information as we are
expert in such skills because we have taken help from internet and collected content through
questionnaire and survey. I have also analysed various data and chose the best one that is
required. Here, in given project work, data are collected for business environment in context of
internal capabilities, factors and market to run enterprise successfully. Therefore, I am good at
research skill which helped me to achieve final goal and objectives.
Numeracy- These are basic skills of mathematics which include range of abilities for
analysing and understanding numerical information and making decisions and conclusion
(Glova, Sabol and Vajda, 2014). For carrying business environment project of airline industry, it
is important for me to have numeracy skill so that data and information related with numbers can
be collected effectively and efficiently. I have collected all number related information which is
required in project work very easily because I am good in it. In airline industry, numbers are
considered regarding number of flights, destination and so on. Thus, in this way, I have analysed
my skill to perform numeracy activities in project work. There are more members who lack such
skill so in order to improve them I have arranged numeracy classes and training for them to learn
and enhance their skill. Each and every project work are based on numbers so it is essential for
team as well as individuals to enhance their skills for better performance.
Team Work Skills- In order to carry project work, I have to work in team as each and
every member have some unique skills and traits that is required to completed assigned task. We
have assigned with project work of business environment in which we divided our roles and
responsibilities according to skills and knowledge possesses by us so that our set aim and
objectives of report can be achieved in proper manner. Being the leader of team, I know skills of
each and every member working under me and accordingly give them task so that they will
perform in proper manner. After that I also engaged team member to learn other skills which are

lacked by them. In this way, team work skills have been carried by me and my team members to
accomplish given task.
Organisation/Time Management- Time management skill is very important for
completing project work (Hillary, 2017). I am good at managing time as I have worked in several
projects which has to be completed within given deadline. For carrying business environment
assignment, we were working in group of eight members who gave their equal contribution to
finish assigned work in effective manner. There were two members who were slow at their task
so I conducted training and development programs so that they can improve their time
management skills and work as per given deadline. Before beginning this project work, I being
leader of team, has categorised activities and time duration by making work break down
structure so that it can be completed within stipulated time period. This helps in achieving set
goal and objectives of report in given time period. This skill is required for performing each and
every task in proper manner along with completing it in given time framework.
Problem Solving Skills- In order to carry out project work, there are various issues
which can arise in team that should be solved properly so that it would not create any problems
in future time period (Hilton and Platt, 2013). As I lack in problem solving skill so I cannot
easily solve problems of my team to get positive outcomes. This is very important skills which is
required in carrying all types of project work. I have to improve such skills through reading
books related with problem solving, participating in various activities and so on.
Therefore, with analysis of above skill, I can easily identify my strong and weak skills for
conducting project work. As I am good at these skills such as communication, research,
numeracy, team work, time management and lack at ICT and problem solving skills. Thus, I
have to work on my lacking skills and improve it by taking classes, coaching and so on.
CONCLUSION
From the above reflection report, it has been summarised that individuals requires various
skills in order to work in group or particular project work. The skills includes communication,
numeracy, problem solving and so on. In case of lack of such skills, they have to focus on
improving it through taking classes, course, training and so on.
