INTRODUCTION
Health is important for every individual so there are many health provider organizations
that are taking care of people. These kinds of organizations are continuously focusing on the high
quality treatment and safety of every person. Leadership is a vital factor for such kind of centres
because they are the only one who can shape the work culture of company (Montgomery and
Douglas, 2009). These people can lead the organization towards success in improving the growth
of workers and customers. The present report is based on Park Day Centre which focuses on
Dementia. Park Day Centre provides health related services to its customers on the basis of high
quality treatment. Along with this, they have a good supporting staff who are delivering top
quality health and social services to the consumers. The purpose of this report is to identify
structure and culture that is followed by Park Day Center (Welford, 2013). Along with this,
SWOT analysis will be done to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of
business. On the basis of this, appropriate recommendations will be given to minimize threats
and overcome challenges so that, Park Day Centre can perform successfully.
TASK
1. Current Organisational Structure and Culture at Park Day Centre
Organizations are established for a purpose to accomplish the goals and objectives that
they set before implementing any plan. Structure is used to define the hierarchy in organization
according to the roles and authorities of employees. It determines the way in which information
is communicated to different level of employees. The structure is based on its hierarchy like it
can be tall or flat.
In tall structure, there are number of layers according to the position of employees that
are working. If a worker is having any query then at first, they can contact with their supervisor.
In flat structure, there is no hierarchical structure and person can directly contact to his
higher authority (Lambsdorff, 2007). Park Day Centre is currently following the divisional,
functional and matrix structure.
Functional structure: This helps the organization in achieving goals according to its
functions. This structure divides company into its functional unit on the basis of speciality and
workers. Park Day Centre performs different functions in distinct departments and some

functional units are marketing, finance, research and human resource management. Company
should use this type of structure in their organization so that each department can perform well in
their own.
Divisional structure: This structure is generally followed by large organizations that are
providing products in variety. This divides company according to its different departments on the
basis of products and services.
Matrix structure: This is also known as the hybrid structure and it is followed in the
centres. In this, both functional and divisional managers are working at the same level. This is
more beneficial than any other structure. Because it can provide a flexibility in the command.
The culture of Park Day Centre supports its structure in achieving the objectives. Its
culture supports the work that is performed by individuals and team and also, motivates the
employees for their hard work (Solomon, 2014). This provides openness in the work
environment within company and it also offers opportunity in identifying their own needs. Park
Day Centre follows the task and role culture in their healthcare centre and this defines individual
role of each member of the firm and they have to do task according to their role. They are doing
research on the disease so that they can provide proper treatment to their patients. They provide
medical education to all their staff members so that they can handle the customers.
2. Relevant stakeholders in Park Day Centre and their perspectives of quality in Park
Organization is having many stakeholders in their internal and external environment.
These can be any person, organization and society who is having interest in the activities of
company. These can be affected by the performance, objectives, policies and procedures of firm
and they can affect the performance of company (Tayur, Ganeshan and Magazine, 2012). Some
stakeholders in Park Day Centre are employers, patients, government, physicians,
pharmaceutical firms and insurance companies. They have their own roles and responsibilities in
the organisation.
Managers: Manager is an internal stakeholder who is focused on his salary that he
received from the concerned company. These people work in the care centre and help
organisation in providing good treatment to all patients.
Patients: These are the customers of health care centre and they pay for the services that
company gave to them. They are connected with the firm and also help them in improving their
growth and profitability.

Government: Park Day Centre gets influenced by the policies and legislative laws of
government. They made many laws related to health of people and every care centre has to
follow these laws strictly. It is an external stakeholder that affects the firm from outside
environment. Government focuses on the equal treatment that it should be given to every
individual (Sekaran, 2006).
Physicians: These play a vital role in such organizations. They have to ensure that
patients are getting good healthcare treatment in a healthy environment but at the low cost. They
have to cut down the rising cost of treatment. These include nurses who take care of the patients.
Pharmaceutical firms: These firms are also important for the healthcare centre because
many people trust on the products of these organisations. They provide drugs at reasonable price
to the organization.
Insurance company: These companies provide health insurance to the patients of
healthcare centre. They focus on the health of customers and not on profits. These companies sell
insurance health plan to the customers.
3. Leo’s roles and responsibilities being the new Healthcare Manager of Park Day Centre
Healthcare manager has to perform many duties on daily basis that are important for Park
Day Centre (Hazlina Ahmad and et. al., 2010). Workers are performing their work in the
company but if manager will not monitor the performance of staff then they will not be able to
provide proper facilities to customers. Manager should have knowledge in the medical field
which can help to improve services of the centre. Some basic roles are that they can provide safe
working environment to all patients to make them feel good. Manager has to conduct a meeting
with all his patients, suppliers, doctors and staff so that they can identify the needs of patients
and provide a healthy environment. Manger of Park Day Centre has to manage discipline in the
centre so that no one get disturbed and it is necessary for Dementia patients (Chi, Kilduff and
Gargeya, 2009).
There are some roles and responsibilities of healthcare manager:
Leadership role: It is the most important role of manager to lead organization. Every
manager should have this leadership skill so that he can guide all workers. He has to motivate his
followers so that they can work hard for their company.
Interpersonal communication: Manager has to communicate with his workers so that
proper information can be transferred to the staff (Kelliher and Bernadette Henderson, 2006).

There should not be any communication gap between manager and his followers because the gap
can create some conflicts between workers.
Strategic planning: When any decision is made in Park Day Centre to accomplish the
goal then manager would have to make plan for that to achieve success. It affects the operations
of organization and company can get advantage if they plan a successful strategy.
Compensation: Manager has to provide some compensation to his staff to motivate
them. If rewards are given to them then they are more satisfied and this strategy can decrease the
turnover and absenteeism in company.
Relationship: Manager has to develop a good relation with other organizations and some
other physicians so that effective treatment can be provided to customers.
Policies and procedures: Manager is required to implement some policies and
procedures in organization. These rules and regulations have to be followed by all members that
are working in the firm. These policies are made to provide some benefits to all workers.
Technology: Park Day Centre has to focus on modern technology and machinery that can
be accessed by experienced manager. If manager will focus on these modern equipment then
they will be able to provide good treatment to all patients who are coming to the care centre
(Chavis, Klapper and Love, 2011).
Leadership responsibilities:
Feedback: It is the responsibility of a manager to provide regular feedback to employees
so that they can improve their performance. He has to give feedback in order to motivate his
staff. Continuous feedback is necessary in order to achieve the objectives.
Training and development: Manager is needed to provide training and development to
all new workers. These can improve the core competencies, knowledge, experience and attitude
of trainees and then growth of both company and employees can be improved.
Qualified workers: Park Day Centre should hire staff who have some knowledge about
medical and health related services so that manager can provide the best services to patients.
High quality treatment should be given by company. So, they have to recruit workers who have
some experience and knowledge.
Problem solving and decision making: Manager of Park Day Centre has to solve the
problems of every individual so that issues would get resolved and performance can be
improved. He has to involve his staff in decision making process so that employees would not

feel like they are not the part of company. If members become the part of such process then they
are more motivated and satisfied with the work.
4. Conduct a SWOT analysis of Park.
When organizations implement any strategy then to make that successful, companies
conducts SWOT analysis (Beck and Demirguc-Kunt, 2006.). This analysis is performed in
businesses to identify their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. In this, company
identifies its internal and external factors that affect its performance. Strength is an advantage
that any firm can enjoy over its competitors. Weaknesses are the disadvantages for organizations
as compared to other rivals. Opportunities are beneficial in achieving the growth and these can
help company in achieving desired profits. Threat can put company into trouble and these
elements can decrease the growth of firm. SWOT analysis of Park Day Centre:
Strength: The firm having long time experience in the field of healthcare which
can provide strength to them (Weismann, 2009). Another important thing is that they are having
skilled workforce which helps their customers effectively. Higher authorities are also able to
manage and control all activities in a timely manner. They motivate them to perform their jobs
effectually. Their staff is capable, skilled and knowledgeable with regard to their job which helps
to provide high quality services to them. Apart from that, their organisational culture is friendly
which improves the communication between employees. Their organisational structure is quite
simple which increases the efficiency and effective control over staff. It gives a sense of
discipline at the workplace.
Weakness: One of the serious weaknesses of institution is that there is lack of training
and development programme. It requires more expertise workers which can take care of their
clients very well. There is a large time gap between training programmes. It is required to
provide training and development session to their staff on a regular basis which can improve the
skills, knowledge and capabilities of their employees. Another weakness is that their staff is not
having qualification which can create a serious problem for the centre. Staff turnover is high
which can lead to reduce the man power strength of an organisation. Their organisational
structure is common which can reduce the performance and efficiency in institution (Teece,
2010). They have lack of communication which can lead to increase conflicts within
organisation.

Opportunities: There are good opportunities for the care centre for gaining growth and
development in the near future. Park Day Centre can expand their operation in to other cities.
Apart from that, they can also introduce new medicines and vaccinations which can help to
increase their market share and profitability. They can provide effective training programmes for
their staff and make them ready for future challenges. It can help to create a quality workforce
for the future in terms of skills, knowledge and capabilities.
Threats: There are various threats which can affect the growth and performance of care
centre. There are other care centres which can provide better services to their clients at lower
price. It can increase the competition between healthcare centres and lead to reduce the market
share of firm.
5. SWOT analyses of Part Day Centre and implementation of change within the organisation
Change is significant for the consistent development and growth of any organisation. It
can help to improve the performance and productivity of their activities. The business
organisation is changed over a period of time. It is required to make improvement in skills,
knowledge and capabilities of an institution. For that, manager of Park Day Centre is required to
implement change which can help in improving their performance over a period of time. For
that, they can use an effective change management system which can help to implement all
important changes within organisation (Johanson and Vahlne, 2009). There are various changes
required to improve the services of the centre and maintain a sense of discipline at the work
place
Change in the organisational structure: Firm can use a new organisational structure which
can help to make a sound working environment within firm. There is no discipline which can
hamper the performance and efficiency of job. The absenteeism is too high which is not good for
the firm. To improve all these activities, manager is required to change the overall organisational
structure and despite of this, they can use matrix structure which can help to improve all services
of institution. The manager can also make a sound communication system with various
departments. For example, if staff is going for a leave, he should communicate with human
resource department. It can improve the communication and interaction between staff and
departments. They can also adopt advance technology which can enhance the service quality of
the firm.

Change in the Training programmes: As per the given scenario, manager of Park day
centre can conduct specialist and expert training programmes for their staff. According to their
existing training structure, they provide training in two years. It is not suitable in today's
scenario. If the manager wants to improve overall services and system of company, he would
require requires to make changes in the training and development programmes. For that,
manager can make a periodic training programme for their each and every level of staff. It can
help to improve the overall activities and performance of institution. Apart from that, they can
also change their recruitment and selection process. Thus, they can get more skilled and qualified
staff for their health care centre. It can reduce their cost over the training and development
programmes (Trkman, 2010).
To implement these changes, manager is required to use following approach to manage
change in the organisation. There are following stages which can be used by the manager as
given below:
Strategy: It is the first stage which is related to framing strategies and plans of institution.
At this stage, managers need to make a blue print for their change plan and make the supportive
strategies which can support these change. Manager can regularly communicate with their staff
regarding changes as staff can resist to adopt the change. It is the responsibility of manager to
make them understand about the advantage of change.
Structure: It is the next stage is related to the organizational structure. It is important for
the manager to carefully analyse the implications of changes in organisational structure.There are
various structures which can be used by the manager. If they want to bring change in the overall
system, they would require to adopt matrix structure over functional. It is more appropriate and
flexible which can help to increase the performance and efficiency of health care centre.
Systems: Being a manager of Park Day centre, it is important to make an effective system
which can help to perform day to day tasks effectually. These tasks can be performed in an
effective manner.
Shared values: There are different culture of an organisation which can have their own values.
These values can be shared by each and every member of the firm. These values tells about the
way in which work can be done by an individual (Bøllingtoft, 2012.).

Styles: Style refers to approaches in which changes and leadership can be adopted and
implemented in the organisation. Higher authorities of Park day centre require to adopt
democratic leadership style which is more appropriate.
CONCLUSION
As per the above mentioned report it has been concluded that to understand the current
organisational structure which can be used by Park day Centre. This report is identified the
relevant stakeholders of the firm in the prospective of firm quality. It is also concluded about the
role of new manager so that firm's can attain their short and long term organisational goals.
Additional, it this report tells about the internal strength and how healthcare centre can use these
strength to attain their available opportunities in the market.
