performance of employees through enhancing ability of staff members to perform by learning. At
workplace, importance of the training and development given developing work environment
complexity, advancement in the technology and change in company (Al-Emadi, Schwabenland
and Wei, 2015). Training and development assists in assure that employees possess skills and
knowledge so that they can perform well. ASDA is British supermarket retailer and founded in
year 1949. It is supermarket chain and provides many services consisting mobile phone provider
and financial services. Employee retention is an ability of company to sustain staff members. It
helps in develop the positive impact on long time sustainability of employees. Training and
development enhance the skills and motivate employees which help them to retain at workplace
for long period of time.
Aim and Objectives
Aim of study is “To identify the importance of training and development on employee
retention in ASDA.”
Objectives are given below:

Rationale of study
Present study will help in understand about importance of training and development
programs. This will enable them to structure training and development to them effective in
context of improving workforce efficiency and lead to reduction in employee turnover. Through

conducting an investigation, better understanding about the training and development concepts
will be enhanced of a learner in an effective manner (Cascio, 2014).

LITERATURE REVIEW
Role of training and development in company
As per opinion of Michelle Seidel (2020) Training and development consists in
improving effectiveness of company and person. Training is systematic setup where staff
rememberer are instructed about the theoretical and technical knowledge concerned to jobs.
Training may be viewed as concerned to the changes in effectiveness of company while the
development is concerned to progress of the employee objectives. Training and development
helps the staff members at workplace too develop the new skills and also enhance their
knowledge. It is an area that related with organisational activities aimed at making the
organisational performance in a better manner. This is necessary for company that wants to take
the changes and improvement changes. The training is helpful in give strengthen to make
improvement in skills of employees. On the other hand, development brings all staff members to
high level so that all have the same knowledge and skills. It is helpful in minimize weak links
within firm that rely on the others to finish the basic work tasks. The training and development
makes staff members more effective and productive. This is concerned with all managerial or
personnel activities.
Significance of training and development in retention of employees in ASDA
According to viewpoint of Jessy David (2020) Training presents main opportunities to
expand knowledge of all staff members but several staff members find development
opportunities expensive. Training and development is main factor in sustaining the staff
members at workplace. In this minimum turnover assure that company is sustaining competent
staff members through giving them better environment that enhance performance of staff
members. Training is one of the effective way to motivate staff members for purpose of
improving employees performance to sustain at workplace for long period of time. In context to
this, workplace training can enhance employees retention because this aids the staff members to
develop more self- worth sense as become valuable to staff of company. On the other hand,
employee retention is related to different practices and policies which let staff members stick to
company for long time period. ASDA company give training to its staff members so that they
skills and core competencies can be improved and they are able to perform in a better manner.
Goal of ASDA manager is to reduce employee turnover, loss of the talent, reducing training

costs. In ASDA organisation, training provides to employee feel them better and they are loyal
and also willing to be contribute for long period of time to business that gives potential for
development as well as progression (Kassa, 2015). Providing the better career pathways is
necessary in sustaining talented people. Method to do it is through working with the staff
members to plan about the career path and also give them with learning that assist in reaching at
career objectives. It could give the staff members access to particular professional qualifications
apprenticeships and soft skills training.
Impact of training and development retention of staff members in ASDA
On the basis of Hirra Pervaiz (2020) Training and development has direct relationship
with the employee retention at workplace. It assists ASDA company to enhance employee
retention and also reduce turnover. When company gives training to employees then they feel
that they are the part of business and want to be develop their career. Training and development
helps in enhance the employee retention because this assists staff members to develop better self-
worth sense as they are valuable to company. On the other hand, training and development is
educational process that consists sharpening of concepts and skills for gaining more knowledge
to increase employees performance level. In ASDA company, employee retention is more
important. Firm is mainly judged according to its turnover rate. It mainly impacts on
performance level of company. The minimum turnover rate assures that company is sustaining
competent staff members through giving them positive environment that enhance employees
performance. ASDA is looking at providing the specialised training and development that is
relevant to particular tasks and make the staff members unfit for the use of rivals (Kossivi, Xu
and Kalgora, 2016).

METHODOLOGY AND DATA COLLECTION METHODS
In present research, quantitative method will be used as a kind of research method.
Researcher will use this method because this assist in doing the systematic research through
collecting data and also performing computational techniques. In research philosophy, positivist
will be adopted through researcher because this adheres to view that only the factual knowledge
gained by the observation by consisting measurement. This philosophy is mainly used to explain
approach related to society study that relies on the scientific evidence in order to reveal true
nature about the arisen issues (Chen, 2014). In order to collect the data from primary sources,
questionnaire will be developed in by including the different questions regarding the training and
development and also its importance in retention of employees. For present research, this is
necessary to collect the data and information related to importance of training and development.
To choose the sample size from whole population, random sampling will be used because this is
helpful in give the equal chance to chosen respondents so that researcher can able to collect
relevant information regarding the specific subject area and getting the positive outcomes.
Ethical considerations
Following the ethical consideration while conducting an investigation is necessary. It is
necessary for a researcher to follow all the ethical principles in doing the research such as
confidentiality, consent, authenticity and others. It is essential that researcher should collect the
data using using authentic and reliable sources (,Fletcher, Alfes and Robinson, 2018). Other than
this, participants in research should not harm in any way. There is a need to investigator to
respect for dignity of the research participants. There is a need to researcher to obtain full
consent from participants prior to study.
Data analysis
It is process of applying the logical techniques to explain and analysis of data. A
necessary component of assuring the integrity of data is accurate of research findings. For
analysis of collected data, thematic analysis approach will be used. Through this, it is easy to
develop themes and interpret emerged data. It needs searching for the data patterns in order to
organised investigation phenomenon (Haider and et. al., 2015).

Conclusion
From the above mention information, this has been concluded that training and
development helps in enhance the performance of staff members and also motivate them for long
period of time. Aim and objectives has been developed on the basis of existing knowledge in
training and development and employee retention. Importance of training and development in
employees retention has been studied here. There has been discussed about application of
different methodologies which help in completion of investigation.
