INTRODUCTION
Background of the Project
The concept of leadership is basically associated with the process by which a person
(Leader) influences and motivates other individual or group of people to accomplish set
objectives in a more cohesive and coherent manner. It has been analysed that with the rise in the
competition in business environment, an issue of high employee turnover has been faced by
many organisations (Currie and Spyridonidis, 2019). Thus, it become vital and essential to
mitigate this risk of high employee turnover to ensure availability of a more skilled and
competent workforce to meet and accomplish the set organisational goal. Thus, current study is
undertaken on Aston Martin which is well known automotive company of UK having its
branches across the world to evaluate about the role of leadership in mitigating the issue of
employee turnover within a firm.
Research Rationale and justifications
Selection of current research topic is rationale as it supports better underdoing about the
concept of leadership which provides a process to motivate and influence the employees of firm
to mitigate the risk of high turnover. Beside this, selection of current topic based on leadership is
also significant as facilitates the importance of leadership within the firm to effectively
accomplish and achieve set organisational goal. Beside this, leading out current study is also
justifiable as it meets the personal interest of researcher and also ensures accomplishment of
academic purpose through leading improved interpersonal and managerial skills.

importance of concept of leadership along with analysing its role in mitigating and reducing the

Arya, B., 2020, it has been analysed that the concept of leadership is basically associated the
process of motivating and directing a set of employees or people towards accomplishment of a
set organisational goal and objective. Further, it has been analysed that all successful
organisation and business needs effective leaders to formulate and communicate the strategic
directions with a firm. It has been analysed that, as the competition in the business environment
is continuously rising along with the dynamic nature of business market which has increased the
need and importance of leadership with a firm. To cope up with the risk and challenges created
by dynamic nature of business environment, it has become important for firms to have effective
leadership (Business Leadership - Is It Important?, 2020). Apart from this, a vital role is played

by leadership in setting strategic business goal along with ensuring improved management
activity that influence and direct the behaviour of employees to achieve set organisational goal.
Thus, an analysis can be made that effective leadership has become important for all organisation
to direct and motivate its employees for better utilisation of workforces to effectively achieve the
set organisational goals (Hallinger, 2018).

With respect to the information provided by Bush, T., 2018, it has been observed that vital
role is played by leadership in reducing and mitigating the issue of employee turnover through
leading positive and motivated workplace environment. The key role of leadership in mitigating
the risk and issue of employee turnover within a firm are discussed and analysed as below:
Effective communication and coordination- The concept of leadership comprises of
setting of organisational goal along with effectively communicating these goals with employees.
Thus, effective leadership brings impaired communication at workplace along with directing and
coordinating the efforts of all employees towards accomplishment of set goals. Leadership also
ensures proper bifurcation of role and responsibility of all employees which brings higher
motivation and positivity in attitude of employees which ensures their higher retention (Sahlberg,
2017).
Meeting needs of employees – Leadership helps in creating a two-way communication
with employees which consists of taking regular feedback from employees regarding their needs
and expectation. Thus, leadership helps in better analysis of needs of employees along with
fulfilling these expected needs which reduce and mitigate the risk of high employee turnover.
Enhanced motivation and engagement- Effective leadership ensures proper direction and
guidance for employees which leads to higher level of motivation also boost the confidence level
of employees which encourages them to remain a firm for a longer period. Apart from this,

employees for their good performance is an effective practises of leadership that can be adopted
by the managers of Aston Martin to have higher retention of talented employees (12 Good
Leadership Practices, 2020). Beside this, adoption of democratic leadership style could also be
adopted by the managers of Aston Martin to have higher retention of talented employees through
ensuring proper involvement and participation of all employees in the decision making process
of the firm which lead to higher motivation and encouragement in employees (Lambert, 2018).

positivism philosophy is proposed as it supports systematic collection of data on the topic of
leadership along with leading a more practical and efficient way of study to meet the set

inductive are two main types of research approach from which use of deductive approach is more
suitable with respect to current investigation. The justification behind making use of deductive
approach is based on the fact that it seemed to be more in-line with the positivism philosophy

Quantitative and qualitative are two main form of research method that provides complete
design and framework for conducting and leading out an investigation. Use of quantitative
research method is proposed for current study as it ensures collection of data in most easy
manner in numeric terms (Mumford and et. al., 2017). Beside this, selection of quantitative
research method is also suitable to ensure more effective presentation and analysis of facts which
ensures a measurable and specific set of results with current study.

There is various form of research strategy which consists of experiments, action research,
observation, survey, interview and many other research strategies that are used to ensure easy
and effective collection of data. With respect to current study, use of survey strategy is proposed
and suggested as it leads to most cost and time effective manner of data collection through
making use of questionnaire which supports collection of data from larger number of participants

Collection of primary data would be made with the help of questionnaire whereas

selected from the employees of Aston Martin with the help of random sampling method for

The ethical consideration within a study is mainly reacted with maintaining the
confidentially of collected facts along with ensuring authenticity and reliability of data.
Implication of BERA code of ethics has made while undertaking current study to meet the set
ethical consideration along with data protection act to maintain the privacy and safety of
collected facts (Hallinger, 2018). Beside this, a prior approval is also taken from selected
participants that is voluntary in nature and can be withdrawn during the course of current study.
