TITLE: Managing cultural diversity at workplace
INTRODUCTION
Cultural diversity is mainly determined as the inclusion of range of groups belonging to
different cultural background within the society. Cultural diversity is highly important at
workplace as it provides opportunities to individuals to enhance their learning by communicating
with one another. This learning directly enhances number of growth opportunities for the people
as they are more knowledgeable now. Cultural diversity plays an important role in the growth of
the entity as it ensures that each and every individual is getting equivalent opportunity at
workplace that develops feeling of motivation among employees which directly boost up their
performance in effective manner (DeCenzo, Robbins and Verhulst, 2016).
The present research is based on Grosvenor Hotel which is UK based large scale Luxury
hotel. The respective hotel was incorporated in the year 1929 and is being managed by one of
popular brands of Marriott International that is JW Marriott. The luxurious hotel is owned by
Katara Hospitality. Increasing popularity of the hotel is because of its highly innovative services
which are provided to its customers effectively. This is so because of diverse workforce at
workplace which serves customers in lucrative manner. It has been determined that manager of
the same hotel have recently analyzed that they cultural diversity has also has its negative impact
over the performance of the employees too because it is increasing number of issues as well as
conflicts at workplace in higher manner. Due to this, employees are not able to perform their
work in rightful manner which might lead to deliverance of non effective services to customers
(Buse, Bernstein and Bilimoria, 2016). This directly creates requirement of inclusion training
practices within the hotel so that employees can develop their learning with the cultural
diversified employees. In this regard, business manager of Grosvenor Hotel have planned to
conduct an effective investigation on role of cultural diversity in creating requirement for
inclusion training. For this, respective researcher have developed required research aim,
objectives and questions which will ultimately provide support in gathering desired information
on the topic and contributing in obtaining proposed research outcome.

REASON FOR CHOOSING THIS RESEARCH TOPIC
The main reason behind selecting proposed investigation topic is the own interest area of
investigator. The researcher have personally observed cultural diversity in many companies and
in their daily lifestyle as well. Along with this, investigator have also realized that effective
management of diversity can be performed by conducting inclusion training within the entity.
This will contribute maintaining interest of individuals at workplace in appropriate manner.
Thus, by conducting this research investigator will provide guidance to businesses in inclusion
training practices which will manage cultural diversity as well as performance of employees at
workplace in effective manner (Mor Barak and et. al., 2016). Apart from this, another reason of
conducting this investigation is to develop own research, analytical, communication and team
working skills of researcher that will provide them support in conducting more effective research
in the near future. Also, investigator have chosen this research topic because of his personal
interest in the chosen theme that is equality and diversity practices. It can be said that
investigator have personally seen that cultural diversity is affecting performance of employees.
In order to find out best solution that is with inclusion training practices for the same investigator
have planned to conduct in depth research on the same topic and serve businesses working at
international scale in best possible manner.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Cultural diversity and its importance at workplace
According to the views expressed by Hofhuis, van der Zee and Otten, (2016) it has been
determined that cultural diversity can be seen within the company when its human resource
department is openly hiring candidates from separate cultural background. it has been analyzed
that diversity practices are mainly adopted by business associations with motive of managing
cultural diversity at workplace in effective manner. Incorporation of these practices simply states
company provides value to culture and differences at workplace. According to the views
expressed by Abdul-Raheem, (2016) it has been determined that business associations often
makes use of different models for implementing cultural diversity practices within the company
in effective manner. The main determined model associated with this concept is Difference and
diversity model. Explanation of this model has been described below in detailed manner:

Difference and diversity model.
This is an effective model which is adopted by businesses for expressing that they are
making use of diversity for executing work in rightful manner. The respective framework clearly
states that differences are valued within the company. As per this framework, differences are
considered as the things for celebration not for the things that threatens them or affects
performance of the company Canagarajah, 2016) This model is mainly based on 4 core
principles that are (i) Individuals feels that they are valuable as their individual needs and
requirements are considered by the company. (ii) It also provides opportunities to individual to
develop their learning from differences, (iii) Functioning and performance of individual also
boost up when they feels that they are getting value, (iv) individual who is empowered could be
effectively work at their own level that is independently.
Incorporation of this model within the company is highly valuable as it allows company
in smoothing their functioning in such a manner that directly results in the enhancement of their
profitability in rightful manner. Along with this, it also enhances feeling of motivation among
the employees as they are value in terms of their culture. This directly boosts up employees
performance and also supports in achieving firm's goals in effective manner (Guillaume and et.
al., 2017).
On the basis of views expressed by Fong and Field, (2016) it can be said that cultural
diversity is highly important for the company as it provides range of benefits to the firm which is
incorporating it within the firm in lucrative manner. Some of the common benefits among them
are improvement in employee engagement, enhancement in productivity, reduction in employees
turnover, incorporation of range of new skills within the company, enhancement of

Workplace. 2020). This can be well understood with the help of example. For instance:
Grosvenor Hotel is performing its business activities at international level. In order to promote
cultural diversity the respective manager of this hotel believes in hiring employees from different
cultural background so that they can serve its customers in more effective manner. It can be said
that by performing this activity it would be easier for the respective hotel to develop their
understanding on the needs and requirement of customers belonging to different cultural
background (Bell and et. al., 2017). This will directly provide support to business manager of
Grosvenor Hotel in serving customers as per their needs and requirements as per their cultural
grounds. From this, it would be easier for Grosvenor Hotel in retaining its existing customers and
attracting new one towards them. This is so because, improved satisfaction level of customers
will influence these clients to visit the hotel again and again. This will generate more revenue for
the hotel and also maximize their profitability.
