Challenges of managing talent within the hospitality industry.
Introduction
Talent management refers to the systematic process of finding the vacant position, recruiting
right candidates, developing expertise and skills of candidates to match the position. Talent
management is the competency, power and ability of employees within an organisation. This
project is based on hospitality industry which is a broad category of field in the service industry.
Ritz-Carlton Hotel is a chosen hospitality company that was founded in 1983 by Cesar Ritz.
Managing talent at workplace helps hospitality organisation in accomplishment of its vision,
building up strong reputation, retaining finest talent, better decision making etc. These are main
benefits of talent management that could be gain by company while managing talent within the
hospitality sector (Al-Azzam and Al-Qura'an, 2018). Apart from this, there are different
challenges or issues that get anticipated in managing talent it working place. These are cultural
differences among employees, giving adequate training to workers, effective position between
management and employees and so on. These are identified as the major challenges in the
hospitality company.
This report is based on different tasks or activities that will be facilitate researcher in
completion of full project effectively. These activities are research questions and objectives,
literature review, appropriate research method, data collection and data analysis, reflection and
alternative research methodology. These are main activities that are useful for researcher in
completion of research project successfully and systematically.
Background of the study
Talent management is not only the management of human resource in an enterprise but it
is the systematic process of determining, encouraging, hiring, developing, maintaining and
retaining the top talents for the successful operations of the hospitality organisation i.e. Ritz-
Carlton Hotel. Talent management in the hospitality sector plays different role by improving
business performance such as helps employees feel skilled, motivated and engaged, allowing
them to work towards achievement of company’s long term goals. It turns to help an organisation
in increasing client satisfaction and also improving their business performance. Apart from this,

there are several challenges which are faced by Ritz-Carlton Hotel while managing talent in the
working place (Alemu, 2019). These are cultural differences among workers, giving sufficient
training to workforce, effective arrangement between administration and workers etc. All these
are major challenges that have negative impact over business performance and growth of
hospitality industry. In order to address these challenges, there are some ways that should use by
company such as free flow of communication, development of effective talent management
strategy, implementation of inclusive and friendly working environment. These ways support an
organisation in reduction of challenges that associated with the talent management.
Rationale
The current project is based on the theme of talent management. The main purpose of
doing this investigation is to find out several challenges of talent management that are faced by
hospitality organisation at workplace. In order to overcome these challenges, researcher wishes
to analysis different number of effective ways that could be applied by hotel manager. This is the
main and preliminary purpose of the researcher for performing this investigation. Along with
this, researcher also has personal interest for doing this research is to develop their own research
skills, time management skill and communication skill so that they can conduct more effective
research in the near future (Hantsuk, 2018).

Literature review
Literature review is the systematic process that helps investigator in identification of gaps
in previous study. Literature review is based on secondary data and for collecting secondary
information, there is requirement of different sources i.e. books, articles, magazines etc. This
section of research project facilitate researcher in addressing of each objectives of study.
The role of talent management in context of hospitality industry
According to the Nasaruddin and Emad, (2019) management of talent refers to the
process of hiring, managing, developing and retaining the excellent and most talented workforce
in the hospitality industry. In fact, management of talent plays an essential role in the business
organisation as it support company in improvement of its performance. There are various roles
that play by talent management within hospitality industry such attract skilled employees,
increase employee’s motivation, continuous coverage of critical roles, enhance employee
performance, engaged workforce, retain most knowledgeable worker, improves business
performance, increase client satisfaction etc. These are main roles played by talent management
in the workplace of hospitality industry. This turn to support an organisation in accomplishment
of competitive advantages and achievement of their long term objectives and goals within lesser
time.
According to the Johnson, Huang and Doyle. (2019), In context of hospitality industry, it
has been investigated that management of talent is an essential practice which allows HR
manager in encouraging workforce to do their job activities effectively and sustain longer in the
hotel. By creating better use of this practice the hospitality sector can easily accomplish success
and growth as they have more talented employees which owe ability to carry out business work
in such a way that could assist them in helping their clients in more appropriate manner. This
will enhance satisfaction of its clients which impact them to stay trustworthy with the hospitality
industry.

As per the view presented by Rathore, (2018), each and every HR manager places
different efforts in doing their business functions within an organisation. Talent management is
introduced as an essential activity which is being used by human resource department. While
performing so constantly, the HR department also faces various challenges that are related with
the management of talent. Some of the main challenges or problems which are mostly
experiential while developing talent management activities are cultural differences in employees,
efficient adjustment between administration and workforce, giving adequate training to workers
and so forth. These are considering biggest and common challenges within the Ritz-Carlton
Hotel. It has been seen that, there are different number of employees that are working with each
other and have to belong with separate cultural background. As it becomes major issue for its
hotel administrator as they face some issues in dealing with the workforce and analysing their
expertise field. As an outcome, it becomes a major problem for the human resource manager to
manage talent with different culture workers.
Ways or strategies for addressing the challenges related with talent management
According to the Seal, Devija and Kumaran, (2018), the main determined issues related
with talent management are alignment between organization and workers, cultural differences
and trouble in giving training to workforce. In order to deal with these issues, there are some
effective ways that should be use by Ritz-Carlton Hotel. These are development of effective
training program, implementation of flat communication, development of inclusive and friendly
working environment etc. These are considering major ways that are effective for Ritz-Carlton
Hotel to use and reduce the above determined challenges effectively. These are effective and
useful ways that directly leads to development of talent management with lesser probability of
problems. Along with this, such types of ways also create positive relationship between
organisation and workforce as they are having words with one more at daily basis. Therefore, it
can be supposed that by following these practices Ritz-Carlton Hotel can easily reduce issues
linked with management of talent and manage their business productivity or performance in
faster way.
