CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION1.1 Research Proposal(i) Research project descriptionGlobalisation is considered as most widely concept which helps organisation in movingtheir business at international level. It gives opportunities to corporations to increase productivityof business by people mobility, changes in organisational structure and culture, developcompetitive strategies etc. The present research is going to study on evaluation of the positivekey factors of globalisation that enhance productivity of operational activities of at a company(Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez, 2013). For this purpose, Carrefour is taken that deals in supermarketchain and offers a wide variety of food and non-food stuffs at its retail stores. It is a Frenchmultinational company and headquartered in Boulogne Billancourt, France. Due to globalisation,respective organisation gain opportunity to expand its business in more than 30 countries with12,000 stores and provide employment to over 380k employees. To evaluate the importance ofglobalisation for chosen company, both qualitative and quantitative techniques are used in thisresearch. (ii) Research aim and objectivesResearch aim: To determine the positive impact of globalisation on operational activities ofglobal companies.” A case study on Carrefour UK. Research objectivesTo identify the role of globalisation in international organisation. To evaluate the importance of different operations of Carrefour that helps in operatingbusiness at global level To determine the factors of globalisation which impact on operations of Carrefour. To recommend the strategies through which Carrefour can run its operations moresuccessfully at global level. 1

(iii) Rationale behind researchThe main reason behind chosen this topic i.e. impact of globalisation at operations andfunction of global companies, they need to get chance to understand such a large topic. Thiswould aid project makers to analyse how to work with a team and conduct different activities forcompleting the research. Working on the topic globalisation, will help in analysing ways bywhich a company can operate its business at global level, more successfully. (iv) Activities and TimescaleFor carrying out a project, a research team usually conducts a number activities in adefinite period of time, to obtain outcomes in given period. In context with present research,various activities are being carried out to analyse the concept of globalisation as given below:-Introduction- This is the initial step in research that provides entire detail about background ofcompany and study, significance and scope of the same. It will take near about 2 days for makinga description of entire project briefly by researchers. Aims and objectives- It is the most important step, where project makers set aims and objectivesto conduct the study (Apăvăloaie, 2014). This will provide specific direction to project makersfor conducting entire research. For carrying out mention activity, research team will takeapproximately three days. Literature review- It provides description of research topic through various authors point ofview. This would help in gathering data for addressing specific issues. In this regard, forconducting literature review by secondary sources, near about 12 days are required. Research methodology- It refers to a process of gathering both primary and secondary data, togather adequate amount of information. For this purpose, 15 days will be taken by researchers inorder to analyse which approaches proves better to collect relevant information on globalisationand its impact on business. Analysis of data- Data which is collected by secondary and primary source, are organised,interpreted and then analysed in this part. For this assistance, near about 12 days are required foranalysing the data and make discussion on it. Conclusion and recommendations- After interpreting and analysing the data, conclusion andrecommendations will be made to provide suggestion to company by which it can overcomefrom its describing issues to perform well (Appel, Franz and Hassler, 2014). For this purpose,2

five days are required to evaluate entire outcomes of research and make recommendation onsame. Submission of final report- It will be done in one day after completing entire activities ofresearch. For framing entire above mentioned activities into prescribed duration of time, GanttChart technique is used. It refers to pictorial representation of research activities which are plotagainst specific time duration (Axelrod and VanDeveer, 2014). This would help in providinginformation to project makers about duration under which each activity has to be completed. 3
