Section One: Title, objective, responsibilities
Background of the study
Talent management may be presented as a practices undertaken by HR manager for
developing, retaining and motivating personnel. In the UK retail sector, due to having changing in
policies and process employee turnover is increasing with the very high pace. Thus, business units
need to take significant measures for enhancing employee motivation and performance. The
current study is based on Sainsbury which offers retail products or services to the customers at
discounted prices. In this, report will provide deeper insight about the manner through which
talent can be managed and sustained with the help of training & development practices.
Research aim and objectives
Aim
The aim of current study is to ascertain the significance of training & development session
in managing talents within Sainsbury.
Objectives
To develop understanding about the concept of talent management and its significance.
To evaluate training methods used by UK retail sector for enhancing performance.

There are several reasons due to which concerned study initiated such as own interest in research.
Along with this, the main reason for doing this study is to assess how talent can be managed
within firm by applying training & development practices. Moreover, UK retail sector is facing
issue of high employee turnover which in turn directly impacts company’s performance. Thus,
through the means of thematic analysis research could light on the manner in which T&D
contributes in talent management.
Significance
This study and related outcomes will provide high level of assistance to other scholars who have
interest in the similar field. Hence, by using findings scholars can develop understanding about
topic and thereby would become able to formulate suitable hypothesis for upcoming study. In
addition to this, companies operating in retail sector including Sainsbury's can employ this
research while developing strategies and policies for managing talent.
Section Three: Literature sources searched
Talent management and its significance
According to Haak-Saheem (2020) talent management is HR process to attract, onboard,
develop and retain employees. It is an important part because it helps to improve business
performance through practices that helps to make employees more productive.
Training methods used by UK retail sector
Madden and Govender (2020) emphasized that onboard training are provided by the
company for newly hired employees or employees who transfer within new positions. These type
of programs are performed within an organization. Lisheng and Ming (2020) shared their opinion
that task force assignment is another type which is performed by the companies in order to meet
the specific task within a specific tenure. This helps to improve the performance and complete the
task within specific timeframe.
Relationship between training & development (T&D) session and talent management
Kapp, Valtchanov and Pastore (2020) investigated that there is a direct relationship between
T&D and talent management such that by providing effective sessions will helps company to
retain their employees and this in turn assists to improve their performance as well. On the other
side, training programs also assists employees to improve their attitude towards a work so that
they develop a long term relationship with a firm as well. Moreover, this reflected that there is a
direct relationship between both terms.
