INTRODUCTION
Research is a part of the process of writing work which includes stating about background
research into the topic, evaluation of information that find from different resources and use them as
evidence within the study. Under this, it becomes important for the researchers to make sure that the
sources of information should be relevant to the topic and effectively supporting arguments. On the
other hand, when the scholars use the findings and other sources information in their studies then
there is a need to cite and reference them accurately. Along with this, it becomes require to carefully
follow the guidance related to citations and referencing styles (RESEARCH AND REFERENCING,
2016). The present essay is based on research and referencing where to understand the significance
of both of them, a topic Dementia is taking into the consideration. To gather the information on this
subject, two main secondary sources will select: Newspapers and Professional Journals along with
text books and internet.
Methods of researching information
Text book: Dementia has created cognitive, language and behavioural barriers for the
person. Due to this, the issues related to memory lapse, unable to learn and remember the things,
reading, spoken and writing language problems etc has started to raise in human that can be
considered as symptoms of dementia. Along with this, from the textbook information, the ways
related to assess the body structure and its functioning, activities and participation of a person
during dementia determine (Bourgeois and Hickey, 2011). Further, it shows how to manage and
treat this disease in an effective manner. Evaluation of text book defines that some of the
information has not clearly stated and it has not able to clear the doubt of the readers.
Internet: On the other hand, from the internet, several information have found on dementia
such as different reasons of occurrence of dementia in the people in particular age, its various types,
symptoms of disease, its causes, diagnosis of dementia, its treatment and care, risk and prevention
etc. From the evaluation, it has determined that most of the internet sources have stated the same
information. This has created the less confusion for the readers to understand the following health
care topic (What Is Dementia?, 2016).
Newspaper: While from the newspaper articles, much new information has explored which
has not delivered by text book and internet. These are such as costs for dementia care for exceeding
other diseases, development of this disease faster in women than in men etc. So, from the evaluation
it has identified that newspaper has provided much wider content on a particular topic rather than
text book and internet (KOLATA, 2015).
Professional journal: Professional journal has assisted in gain important information on a

particular topic. From this, the readers can able to get more specific knowledge on dementia such as
its implications on public, different causing factors and its impact on the health of the people etc.
This has widen up the learning and knowledge area in most effective manner as compare to other
above mention sources (Chapman, Williams, Strine, Anda and Moore, 2006).
From the above findings, it can be concluded that text book, internet search engine,
newspaper and professional journal has delivered the different information to the readers in the
context of dementia. For example, the text book shows diagnosis of disease and various barriers
across the stages of dementia. While Google internet search engine reflects information about
symptoms and causes of illness, treatment of the following disease etc. On the other hand, The New
York Times newspaper states the cost for dementia care and reason of high growth rate of it in
female as compare to male. Further, on the professional journal explores information on dementia
and its implications for public health.
Copyright and plagiarism

Copyright is a law that secures the rights of owner to have their work used only by taking

information which are as follows:

knowledge related to the particular area. It is a need in the work because it shows the breadth of the
study and given strengthening to academic arguments. Along with this, it supports understanding of
researchers regarding the subject. Further it aids in allowing the scholars to verify the information.
There are two types of conventional referencing: Harvard and APA (American Psychological
Association) style. In Harvard referencing style, the reference lists are created to allow researchers
to put original sources themselves. In this a reference list includes several pieces of information:
name of author (s), publication year, title, city publication, publisher and pages used. On the other
hand, APA reference style is based on author/date format where the researcher name and the date of
piece of work mentioned to uniquely identify it (Referencing Styles, 2016).
CONCLUSION
From the above essay, it can be concluded that references and research has the important
section of a study. The different secondary resources have delivered the various and diverse
information on a particular topic. Further, copyright act has reduced crimes of copy of other works
and has secured the rights of writers. On the other hand, references haven required in the research
