RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION2 Residential experience reflection This essay is self-reflection of my residential learning experience at the time of my post- graduation time. I have considered differed areas for reflection such as leadership, teamwork, and conflict and time management. The several personal development requirements were addressed and evaluated according to theoretical support and use of appropriate tests such as ESFP and The global EI test results. Identification of concerned areas will support me to find out the potential areas of future development with enhancement.TheMyers-BriggsType Indicator (MBTI) is a measurement that believes to evaluate the psychological preferences in how an individual observes the global and make judgements.Global EI testevaluatesboth emotional as well as social competencies for well-rounded image of emotional intelligence and opportunities of an individual for development. This reflective essay describes the events where I have gained my experience in different areas. After a critical assessment of each point, I have discussed the final conclusion on my part to develop an understanding of my stand that demonstrated my areas of enhancement in long-term. This essay is developed as per the received supervisor’s feedback after completion of residential address. It has developed my own experience regarding such activity.Along with this, Gibbs reflective model is critically analyzed by considering different elements such as descriptions, feelings; evaluation, conclusion, and action all are interconnected in a cyclical way. Throughout the events at fall barrow, I have developed my residential experience and gained my learning about myself that I did not notice earlier from now. This event has boosted my both personal and professional experience as well as real-world experiences. But, in this essay, I will
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION3 only emphasize on personal experiences regarding the earlier mentioned field of concern.I will also address my strength and weaknesses during the events. Throughout the events at fall barrow, I gained an appreciation of myself that I did not notice earlier. This event has boosted my both personal and professional experience. The first task allowed me to present to the team my leadership skills in particular my strategy thoughts. The task did not go well as my leadership skills were not up to the mark and I performed very badly. According to my Myer Briggs test of personality, I scored low in sensing and feeling areas which demonstrate my lack of awareness with others during this process. As noted byBolman and Deal (2017), ‘leadership is the competency of the company’s management in terms of creating sound decision and encouraging others to perform effectively. In contrast to this, managers who demonstrate the good leadership qualities can lead their teams for attaining the specified tasks.’ Reflecting on this event and the evidence it is clear I need to address my leadership approach. The outcome was a lack of team coordination as well as lack of planning and communication skills(Tannenbaum, and Schmidt, 2017). During the event, I have also participated in Web Bridge task of day 1 where I have to arrange all resources in the right way. The outcome was a lack of team coordination as well as lack of planning and communication skills(Tannenbaum, and Schmidt, 2017). It indicates that my leadership skill is not up to the mark and very bad. From the Myer Briggs test of personality, it is assessed that I scored low in sensing and feeling that are cause of lack of planning (Sources: Appendix 1).
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION4 However, during a business task on day 2, I have developed my leadership skills. On day 2 & 3 of residential experience, there was a high amount of smaller task for gathering the wedge and sell them for accomplishing the total sale amount of 7500 GBP. During this task, I have improper planning so that I have wasted more time. But, my team coordination was great so that I finished this task effectively(Antonakis and Day, 2017). On Day 2, it appears that my leadership skills allowed my team members to contribute more of their efforts and plans were made for the following day. All the team participated and I felt all members are contributed more efforts and made plans for the next day. And, the next day, all team members have participated in this task and sale all wedges. Due to this, I got 7500 GBP and the task was effectively completed. Thus, a situational leadership strategy is used by me for completing this task(Priest and Gass, 2017).The global EI test results indicate that I got high score in self-management that helps to meet this task (Sources: Appendix 2). Team cohesion is necessary to encourage team members to concentrate and contribute their efforts towards a team goal. The need for each team member to complement each other and develop strength allows a team to effectively compete. Each factor is contributed to effectively complete the whole task of the team. In opposed to this, it is stated that the team member should complement to each other and the best complementary team would be recognized at the end of the task(Häfner Stock and Oberst, 2015). During the ‘Maze’ task, I was extremely pleased with myself as I addressed the correct path to finish the task with all rules and regulations. However, after finishing this task, I received the

RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION5 result that I have shown a lack of planning and communication. It appears that I did not fully understand the task before starting and maybe as a team and as an individual, I should have taken more time to understand and agree a way forward. The learning here is that planning and communication are better as well as team and coordination can complete the task in an effective manner. But, I have focused on another task in the samedays such as sheep and shepherd. In this task, I have to guide all sheep in a box by giving the correct signal. The outcome of this task is that planning and communication are better as well as team coordination is great that lead the task in an effective manner. It indicates that I was proficient in practicing the best mode of communication and I also emphasized on timely communication and developing planning before initiating the work as I am able to get success in the future(Young, et. al., 2016). The EI test results shows that I scored high in self-awareness and self-management that is cause of using effective planning (Sources: Appendix 2). Due to extroversion personality, I have communicated effectively with my team members (Sources: Appendix 1). This quality is an effective attribute in me as well as I am good in collaborating and complementing my team members in a holistic way. For enhancing my professional career, I would think as per the perspective of my team members and should be empathetic with respect to each team member. I would respect the cultural differences and value ethics(Muratori and Rizzoni, 2016).
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION6 During several tasks, it appears that I need to review my levels of communication. It was clear that my team mates found me difficult to understand and my need to adopt a more collaborative approach is required. In sheep and shepherd event, I have communicated effectively to my team members that aid to complete the task on time. As noted byRahim (2017), communication plays a significant role in professionalism and business. When, there isno clear communication between team membersthen, they can face difficulty to attain the objectives and there would be chaos and chances of creating higher conflicts. In contrast to this, it is evaluated that collaboration is what should be focused more when performing in a team. There arehigher probabilities of creating the conflicting condition because of differences in views but keeping conflicts in aside the team should work as a whole. At the time of my residential experiences, I was involved in the number cruncher task on day 1. In this task, numbers are considered from 1 to 24 and the group of people should touch all the number in the targeted time period. The outcome of this task was that I have time management and good communication skills because I have completed this task in a targeted time period (Dhingra, 2016). Due tohaving high perceiving skills, I was able to manage the time in task. Along with this, due to relationship management skills, I have maintained good relation with my team members that aid to meet the target on time (Sources: Appendix 2). According toCasimiro et al. (2015),when work relationships are involved then an individual would be more comfortable to work with complex work situations and would be capable to meet target. In contrast to this, it is stated that boss can be both demanding and complex due to
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION7 developing high work standards as there is need to maintain good relationship with team members. Thus, I believe that addressing the best out of others is an approach to find the best in me. I also supported to cultural differences and try to communicate social services and quality work via my work. On the 2ndday of business task (ball task), I have to buy all the required resources by using the auction. After getting the required resources, I have to start the task and should complete it. The outcome of this taskwas improper planning and wasted time duringthe task. But, due to effective teamwork and team communication at a moment, I have completed this task successfully. Hence, I should enhance time management skills so that time wastage can be reduced and resources can be utilized on time and an effective manner(Kirillov, et. al., 2015). Apart from all these concepts, I have considered different tests for the assessment of personal behavior and critical assessment of my own requirement for personal development. The dominant trait is assessed and evaluated hence I can attain the best outcome in the future. The test conducted involves a Myers Briggs test of personality and the global EI test results. Each test outcome is evaluated here to address the actual and final behavioral strategy(Salmon, Stanton, and Jenkins, 2017). Therefore, it is quite clear that I am a good team performer but need to develop self-skills to a higher extent. Considering my interpersonal skills, I would like to consider theneed for effective time management and resource management.Adams Tenney and Pew (2017) stated that an effective interpersonal skill is more beneficial for making communication with team members and gets

RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION8 team supports. It would be also beneficial for managing the resources on time. I have time management concern that is clearly indicated in the number cruncher task of day 1. In opposed to this, it is evaluated that a group can be formed in which member of group is essential to select the successive is set of the amount for touching all given number in giving the required limit of time.Teamwork is collaborative efforts made by the team for attaining the common goal and to finish the task in the most efficient and effective manner. The outcome of event indicates that I have a lack of time management skills and it is caused by my poor interpersonal communicationskills. I was not competent to effectively interactwithin the team at the time of requirement. As a result, the task was not completed on time(Arasu, et. al., 2016). I have pointed that in order to develop effective communicating interpersonal skills, needs to participate more on teamwork and group activity. It would also increase my cohesion as well as I will also use the right communication technique for the right reason and at the feasible time. Myer Briggs test of personality results indicate that I am ESFP Type. The percentage of my extrovert is 41%, sensing is 25%, the feeling is 25% and perceiving is 34%. My extroversion and perceiving qualities are my strength while my sensing and feeling are my weaknesses and that should be improved (Sources: Appendix 1). According toChoi and Ha (2018),conflict is one of the key causes of unhealthy working atmosphere.Conflict is serious arguments and disagreements that can happen during the task. When two people are in conflict, then they have had a serious disagreement and have not yet arrived at arguments. I will try to keep any conflict between me and my team members to a minimum. In contrast to this, when considering the time
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION9 management, it is addressed that I am poor in managing the time and need to enhance it to the earliest. As per the view ofChatterji Arlosoroff and Guha (2017), time management is the procedure to make plan and control how much time to spend in spending on particular practices. I believe that good time management permits team members for completing more tasks on a shorter time period, declining the amount of stress and leads for career success. From the interpretation of all events, I can say that I am somewhat unwilling to project myself in conspicuous means and people misinterpreted this as a threat within me as well as fail for recognizing my actual inner strength. It is evaluated that only known individual can understand me well and they can only comprehend my personality and my truth. When I take a task, I finish it methodically and then stop. Afterward, I considered the success or failure of the task. This supports toteamwork and mutual support attitude. I feel more secure with my team members and feel less secure to work when prime accountability is given to me. My higher extent of stress leveland low confidence led to ineffective management of anger(Stanton, and Baber, 2017). The global EI test results show my emotions related to self-awareness, self-management, and social-awareness and relationship management. I got 7 out of 10 score in self-awareness, got7 out of 10 score in self-management, obtained 6 out of 10 score in social awareness and 6 out of 10 score in relationship management (Sources: Appendix 2). The conflicting situational crisis has declined because I have maintained my emotional stability and situational leadership trait. This helped me to lead the team in a better way and enhanced my team management skills.
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION10 I have adominant trait that sometimes creates a conflict situation. Inopposed to this, due to situational leadership strategy, I was able to get team support and significant backing with my team members. Thus, my transformed leadership approach has supported me to get favorable feedback from team and supervisor and its result in enhanced behavior and skills of myself (Western, 2019). I has regularly made efforts to learn the reality and have accepted my weakness and thus have made efforts for controlling my emotions. In the next task of the event, I have controlled my emotions and I have made efforts for avoiding the conflicting condition to the extent possible and have also increased support of my team members as compared to previous task experience. From the event, it is well reflected to my task performance as my individual consideration is clearand I got angry with stressed out and started to shouton my team members. There is a concern to maintain the inner emotions with the outcome of professional life. It generates a lot of complexities in professional development. I have also transformed my leadership from liberal style to situational style and have been flourishing in my present work roles as compared to the previous failure(Chuang, Jackson, and Jiang, 2016). Through the personality test, it is analysed that I am extroverted and perceiving feeling. Through the global EI test results, it is stated that got high score in self-awareness and self-management (Sources: Appendix 2). Myprofessional and personal life balance is low and I completetasks from my heart and at times, I face complexities while people take benefit of my emotional feeling. In contrast to this, I should more focus on the professional area as well as the need for developing a personal partnership with an individual who will be more influential. Hence,

RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE REFLECTION11 probability of misinterpretation by other people can reduce as well as social work atmospheres and emotional factors can become more valuable(Scholl, 2018). I have sometimes difficult to comprehend my allocated roles as it could be considered as my weakness. There is a need to develop a clear understanding regarding personal thought of mine. As per the above discussion, it can be concluded that this reflective essay focuses on personality development areas. It also recommends that I am good while performing in a team due to effective leadership skills, people managing competencies, well communication with the team, high level of confidence, and supports the decision of each team members. There is needed to make improvement in a different aspect from previous times. The residence experience is beneficial to enhance my competencies and understand my leadership, team management skills and also enhanced strengthen my personality at a higher extent. I have gained my knowledge that I am not an innovator and nor a competency to generate ideas about an individual. Hence, I need to compliment myself with this weakness and addressed a team that has all the complementary skills that I have inadequacy. It would support in my own performance extent to enhance significantly. I have become more focused with respect to reality and have clearly comprehended the significance of situation decision making with time management at the workplace. It can be also summarised that this residential experience has more turning point of my life in both professional and personal level.
