1. Knowing Myself
1.1 Degree Program I am Studying and my Career Aspirations
I am currently studying for degree in Oil and Gas Management. I firmly believe that
self-awareness is the key to a successful future. I know by now that I required a lot of soul
searching to be able to come to a conclusion about what I want to make of my life and the
path I want to traverse in this world of countless kinds of opportunities. The Oil and Gas
industry is very integral to the survival of mankind, business, infrastructure and countless
other sectors. This fast paced world is a reminder of the fact that oil and gas made the
impossible possible by opening up the world to countless opportunities. Energy is integral
and in this world, and with it depleting at an extremely fast rate, skilled people need to come
in to be able to manage the industry in a way that helps sustain the world, longer.
Oil and Gas management deals with the preparation of professionals who will be
trying to enhance the productivity of the Energy, Oil & Gas and Transportation industries.
They will be armed with information that will help them research and develop activities that
will be integral for the managerial aspects of the Oil and Gas Industry. They will be
designing and developing new plans that will help sustainability and consumption. The
management professionals in this industry are adept at energy management.
I aspire to work as an Energy Consultant after completing my degree. Energy
Consultant’s or an Energy broker is a professional who is an expert when it comes to the
matters of energy. This will require me to be extremely well versed when it comes to energy
rules and regulations. I need to be aware of the trends and data about the usage and rates of
energy. I want to attain deep market expertise as well. This role is inspirational for me

because they can help a business determine if the kind of energy they are using is the right
kind of energy for them. They analyze the data with the right interest of the client in mind.
Various businesses keep on using the wrong kind of energy and this can be helped, they can
reduce costs and work better and profitably.
1.2. Critical Appraisal of Johari’s Window and Clifton Gallup’s Strengths
Theory
1.2.1. Johari’s window
The johari window technique will be utilized by me for self-assessment of the
relationship I share with myself and others. This technique was created by which
psychologist Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham in the year 1955 (Luft and Ingham 1961).

After the johari window assessment I have realized that I am adaptable caring helpful
observant and self conscious. Please watches something that I keep to myself and others or
not aware of these. As somebody who is trying to be a consultant I think having the virtue of
being observant and helpful will let me excel in my line of work. I believe so because people
who come to consultancies are usually in need of help I need people to empathize with them
and understand their point of view. Successful counselor always steps into their client’s shoes
and chooses to analyze situations from their point of view and tries to help the business in a
way that will reduce cost a cause a change that will help the profitability better (Luft and
Ingham 1961).
1.2.2. Clifton Gallup Strengths theory
The Clifton gallup strengths theory is yet another test that help me understand and
self-service my individual strengths so that I can identify and work on maximizing them
(Asplund et al. 2007). According to the assessment my strengths are adaptability, arranger,
positivity include and analytical.

According to the strengths I am somebody who retained adaptability that means I do
not have perfect thoughts of the future instead I like to focus on the moment. I am a firm
believer of the swag that if they work hard now then only will I be able to realize my dreams
in the future. I like this unforeseen events different challenging and inevitably and helps me
work on my flexibility. I can multitask very well. All of this can be improved upon so that I
do well in my life.
I am also somebody who is an arranger. As discussed I can multitask therefore I take
up variables in a situation and carefully align them together to my benefit and ensure that the
alignment Weeks for the results. Flexibility is the key I hope to utilize in my life. Patients of
various sectors keep changing and therefore it becomes difficult for people to keep up but not
for me. When the unexpected occurs one cannot take refuge in the existing rules because the
unexpected to not come to make life easier. However it is upon us to ensure that it does not
make work difficult to some extent that it goes beyond capabilities when it comes to
managing it. The confusion it causes is a challenging event and I like getting to it
immediately and figuring out new path way for my benefit.
I am also analytical. I don't just do what I am doing because without proof it does not
matter to me. This is a chance to become challenging for other people and I believe that
somebody who hopes to be in administration requires this talent. When it comes to work
everything should fit like Jigsaw puzzles. One cannot afford a loophole or an assumption just
because it is the only thing we have. I think assuming things are foolish because we do not
know for a fact what the reality is and we tend to utilize our resources trying to back a fluke
up.
I believe in including and being included therefore I am an inclusive individual. Man
is a social animal and I believe that being a social animal as countries positive elements.

Being with people and being by people in various kinds of environments, builds bonds that
tend to last a lifetime. it is also true that different kinds of people have different kinds of
information bases and knowledge that will always differ from ours. Every person is an open
book from which we can learn a lot of new things and we can also observed that perspective
because no two people handle the situation in the same way. People give us an opportunity to
be better than who we are and they also give us an opportunity to learn.
I tend to lose interest whenever things reek of stagnancy. I have positivity within me
and I like to paint the world with countless colours so that it looks less grim. I think the key
to having a successful life is making everything fun. A little humour and spice up even the
most depressing events and disastrous situations. Therefore with vitality and energy I want to
who directed towards a better future for me. If a glass is half empty is also half full and in this
life surrounded by problems I believe having a positive outlook is something that will help
beyond measure. Negativity for me means that life has gotten to me and I hate losing
therefore I plan on remaining positive throughout my life.
1.3. Understanding how Elements of Johari’s Window and Clifton Gallup’s
Strength’s Theories can be applied to achieve my Career Aspirations
All of these qualities will be helping my career aspirations because these are strengths
I play by and as an energy consultant I believe it is important to see the best in every
situation. The fact that I like people is very evident because I consider myself a very social
person and therefore interacting with people as a consultant will not be a problem. it is
important for consultants to appear and somebody who is friendly and willing to come
forward as help. Clients will also be comforted by positivity because I refused to you at the
negative sides only and with my ability to take risks and calculate new opportunities I can
present to them a completely new plan they will like. it is also true that a consultant has to
deal with lots of information from various clients and with my ability to multitask and with

my ability to be flexible I am sure I can juggle a lot of friends and a lot of patterns in my
mind. I believe it will be hard for me to lose track of what I am doing because I have been
multitasking all my life and I know what I am going to do in my future. Inconsistencies we
also deal with the lot of information that is given from the side of clients and given how
choosy I tend to be while accepting information it is evident that I will only take me
information that I am correct and what accordingly therefore minimizing the risk of wrong
decisions taken.
2. Knowing my Sector
2.1. Identification and Analysis of Professional Interests and Qualifications
Professional qualifications alongside a degree are always added bonuses. There is no
limit to degrees one can acquire in this modern world with various opportunities to be
grabbed. As an energy consultant I believe that my knowledge should span more than just oil
and gas and therefore I am planning to get a degree solar energy as well. I even plan to attend
a course that will help me get a brief idea about wind and tidal energy as well. it is important
that as an energy consultant I am completely aware of all the kinds of energy that are
currently available on this planet and given the precarious situation of oil and gas I have to
try my best to tell my clients about options that are renewable in nature and will help in the
business being a sustainable initiative and something that is helping the conservation of the
main forms of energy that is oil and gas. Being aware of sustainability and conservation is
very important in today's life and I hope I will also be able to spread a message about the
same to all the people come to me for consultation. I am hoping to grab diplomas if possible
degrees in the above fields.

2.2. Reflection on Current Skill Set
I believe I am adept at understanding oil and gas concepts and the various attributes of
this market. Along with that after self-assessment, I know of things that I have already
obtained and can work on further. There is so much more to learn and I believe I can still
obtain a skill set which will I'm much more helpful to me. I hope to obtain analytical skills
that are not just about questions but can also solve problems very quickly and is able to grasp
things that are not said and read between the lines. I also want to be more adept at
spreadsheets and computers so that I can compile my own data and go through them myself.
It is also important that I accustom myself to client psychology because it is very important
for consultants to understand their clients and they being Human tend to have qualities that
are not really derivable.
3. Let Them Know Me
3.1. Current Job Interest
A current job that has captured my interest in my sector is that of the tool pusher. Tool
pushers are general managers on board the offshore oil rigs. They are the supervisors and
incharges of operations and they make sure that the company's engine objectives are it had to
on board. The job has an extremely wide range of tasks such as helping with technical advice
on making sure that plans of the company and which rulers are coordinated they even handle
the communication with the crew and any case problem arises they are the ones who step in
first and make sure the problems are resolved. They are the problem solvers and decision
makers on the oil rigs. It can be a difficult task that is highly interesting and challenging. you
also have to check that everything that is done on the oil rate is in compliance with all the
policies and rules and regulations that have been set by the government and company to
ensure that problems related to these to not arise and do operations can go on smoothly.

There is always a considerable amount of risk on the rigs but that's what makes it more
challenging.
3.2. The STAR Method
The Star method process is a structural manner of response that is correct for an
interview that is based on our behavior. These answers are presented as situations tasks
actions or results related to the situation that is being described by the interviewee
(Indeed.com 2019).
Conclusion
This assignment was a process that made me reflect on what I have already attained
and what else I can attain to make myself ready for a career in this industry. This assignment
can be called as an exercise that only increased my self-awareness. It also made me
objectively view various options that are available for me to explore. I understood what kind
of a life I would like to lead and the kind of third year I would like to aspire for. I have
realized that I like challenges and list I have also realized that I accept challenges and risks
only when the information about them is clear and they are legitimized by an argument for
them. Therefore one might say that I am a careful risk taker who does not jump to
conclusions very easily.
