INTRODUCTION
Resource Management refers to the the techniques and methods which are adopted so
that the organizations are able to efficiently manage their resources (Brewster, 2017). Resources
which are available in a particular organization are quite limited in nature. Thus the firms need to
ensure that they are used optimally so that the required efficiency and effectiveness can be
achieved easily. This is an important filed for which the management requires practical
application of the appropriate techniques and should make use of the ways through which the
desired level of efficiency and effectiveness can be achieved. In different companies it can be
applied in a particular manner as desired by them for their work and their specific needs and
requirements. The management of the companies has to excel in this because this will enable
them to optimize and use the resources optimally for achieving the outcomes. In this assignment,
specific analysis will be made on analysis of resource requirements, importance of resource
management, evaluation of use of resources. Additionally, focus will be made on efficient use of
human resources and judgements on the efficient use of resources within the company.
TASK 1
AC 1.1- Resource requirements of three profiled businesses
In this discussion, there will be a detailed focus made on the three businesses dealing in
diverse sectors. The resource requirements of these businesses are as follows-
Stems- Stems is an agricultural business. It deals in the primary sector. It is a family
business in which seasonal workers are hired as per the needs and requirements. The resource
requirements of this firm is as follows-
 Physical resources- As Stems is looking forward to diversify its range of crops it needs
different types of physical resources for ensuring the same. It will help the company as it
will be able to produce more crops in the peak season to earn profits.
 Human resources- In the peak season, Stems requires the services of seasonal labour
through which it is able to meet its various requirements. Thus this will help the
organization in the proper management of its crops.
 Intellectual resources- These are the resources which are used in the businesses so that
they can assess their intellectual talent in the right manner. In the context of Stems, these

resources can be quite helpful so that the company is able to achieve success in the
future.
 Financial resources- These are the resources which can be quite helpful so that the
organizations are able to assess their financial capacity in the right manner. Therefore for
Stems the requirement is to make sure that the financial resources are used in the right
manner.
AluPan- AluPan is a small private company which deals in products related to panels of
ships, planes and rail cars. Aluminium is used by the company for this purpose. The firm is
earning decent profits. However in order to grow in the future time period there is a requirement
to ensure proper resource management so that the company is able to achieve a distinct strategic
edge over competitors. The resources required by it are-
 Financial resources- Financial resources are required by AluPan so that it is able to
make sure that it provides good products to its customers and clients.
 Physical resources- The right materials are needed by AluPan so that it is able to
manufacture the goods for its customers and clients.
 Information resources- These resources are required by AluPan so that the information
can be transmitted in the right manner. In this way the company will be able to function
in a proper manner.
 Human resources- They are required by AluPan so that they are able to manage their
work in a proper manner. In this way the firm will be able to function properly.
Spirus- Spirus is a call centre which provides customer care services for different types
of organizations. To provide the services required by its clients it needs the following resources-
 Technological resources- They are needed so that good services can be provided to the
clients. With the technology it is possible to provide these services.
 Human resources- Talented people are required by the company so that it is able to
provide good services to its clients. Thus it needs to employ efficient workers.
 Financial resources- Spirus requires making the use of financial resources because in
this way they will be able to make sure that they can achieve their relevant goals and
objectives.

 Physical resources- Any organization requires making the use of physical resources
available with it so that it is able to maximize its capability to achieve. Thus this is done
by Spirus also.
AC 1.2- Importance of resource management for the organizations
There is an importance of resource management within the organizations (Chams and
García-Blandón, 2019). This is due to the following reasons-
 Maximization of efficiency- Resource management is helpful for the companies so that
they can maximize their level of efficiency (Clark and et.al., 2016). If the organizations
properly use these resources then they will be able to achieve their desired outcomes.
Stems, AluPan and Spirus should ensure this for better management of their resources.
 Investing in the projects- If there is proper resource management within the companies
then they can invest in the right projects (Cooke, 2018). This will help them in
maximizing their profits. It is required that the management of Stems, AluPan and Spirus
is able to understand the importance of investing in the right project.
 Identification of problems- When the organizations invest in different types of projects
they are bound to face certain types of problems. Thus with resource management they
can make sure that they are able to identify these problems easily and therefore use the
necessary techniques to rectify them. The managers of Stems, AluPan and Spirus are able
to identify the different types of problems quickly.
 Transparency in the process- When the firms use resource management they can bring
the desired transparency in their various processes. This can help them a lot in indulging
in strategic planning effectively. The management of Stems, AluPan and Spirus can bring

Control of projects- With the use of resource management, the firms can hope to gain

There are different types of factors which can create an impact on the resource
management within the organizations. These factors are described as follows-
Internal factors-
 Nature of business- The nature of business which is conducted within an organization
creates an impact on the resource management. Therefore the organizations are required
to take this factor quite seriously.
 Availability of resources- The availability of resources within the organization also
creates an impact on the resource management. Thus the companies should make sure
that they have good availability of the resources.
 Budget- It is important for the organizations to consider their budget so that they are able
to manage the usage of their resources in the right manner. Thus in this way the firms will
be able to make sure that they are able to use their resources correctly.

 Existing staff skills level- It is crucial for the firms to facilitate an improvement in the
existing staff skills level so that they can meet the needs and requirements of the market
in the right manner. In this way the organizations will be able to achieve their goals and

 Economic conditions- The economic conditions which are prevailing in the economy
have to be considered by the firms so that they are able to manage their resources
accordingly. Thus from the point of view of the organizations it is quite important to
consider them in a highly effective manner because they have to increase or decrease the
usage of resources accordingly.
 Technological advancements- The technological advancement are quite important to be
considered for resource management because technology is dynamic in nature and can
change quickly. Thus it is crucial from the point of view of the firms that they are able to

The physical resources which are available within a business have to be used in the
correct manner by the business organizations. Their monitoring and management should be
ensured by them by making sure of the following factors-
 Identifying the availability of physical resources- The physical resources which are
available with the organizations have to be identified by them (Ghobaei-Arani, Souri and
Rahmanian, 2019). In this way they can make sure that they are able to use them in the
correct manner without any problems and issues. They can find out the tasks and
processes where these physical resources can be used in the right manner.
 Controlling the usage- The firms can ensure that they are able to control the usage of the
physical resources. Thus in this manner they will be able to achieve the desired outcomes
easily.
 Proper monitoring- Proper monitoring needs to be done. In the organizations this will
make sure that the resources are utilized in a judicial way. Therefore in this manner the
companies will be able to achieve the sustainable success without problems and issues.

issues can be faced by the organizations. Thus the management has to frame an appropriate
strategy which can be used by it so that these issues are resolved and the level of efficiency and
effectiveness can be enhanced.
Negative issues-
 Losses- Lack of proper monitoring of physical resources can result in losses for the
organization. Therefore this can lead towards creation of negative issues for the company
because this can impact their overall level of profits.
 Mismanagement of stock items- When the physical resources are not monitored
properly this can result in the mismanagement of the various types of stock items. Thus in
the context of the company this can create a lot of impact on the profits.
Justification- These are negative issues because these can affect the financial situation of
the company. Therefore for the managers it is important that they properly monitor the physical
resources so that the losses due to improper monitoring can be avoided. Also its is crucial for
them to ensure that the mismanagement of stock items does not happens due to improper
monitoring of physical resources. Thus it is important to avoid these issues. While dealing with
the physical resources these negative issues can be faced by the firms and can impact the ability
of the management to deal with them. Thus they have to be addressed quite quickly by the
managers.
Therefore, it can be said that for the firms it becomes highly crucial and important that
they are able to address these positive and negative issues effectively and efficiently which will
help them to manage the resources in the right manner. This will help in making a better use of

AC 2.2: Measures to reduce the impact of resource wastage
When the resources are used within the organizations there is also some wastage which
results from their usage. The focus of the managers in the organizations should be on the
adoption of appropriate techniques to reduce such wastage of resources. The measures which can
be taken by them for this purpose are as follows-
 Identification of requirements- It is important for the businesses to make sure that they
identify the requirements of their different departments (Gupta and et.al., 2017). In this
way they will be able to make sure that they are able to allocate the resources

accordingly. Firms need to assess the requirements which their different departments like
Production, Finance, HR and Marketing have regarding resources and try to fulfil them
by ensuring the appropriate use of the resources available with them.
 Allocation of resources- In the companies after the requirements of the businesses have
been identified the resources are required to be allocated (John and Taylor, 2016). Thus
in this manner they will be able to make sure that the resources are allocated in the
correct manner. Firms have to concentrate on ensuring that the proper allocation of the

of the company takes the right steps at the right time it can help them a lot in reducing the

objectives without facing problems and issues. Therefore, the requirement from the company is

AC 2.3: Assessment of costs of high-profile technological failures
In the past, there have been multiple instances when the technological failures have
resulted in huge costs for the organizations. The costs associated with these technological
failures are as follows-
 Loss of production- These type of failures can result in loss of production for any
manufacturing organization. This is so because the production nowadays is heavily
dependent on the use of technology.
 Lack of proper use of labour- When these types of failures occur in the companies this
can result in the lack of proper use of labour (Luong and et.al., 2017). This is so because
the labour is required to be used in a correct manner and the failure of technology leads to
problems and issues in doing so.
Example- An example of a high-profile technological failure is Samsung Galaxy Note 7
in which there was both a loss of production and lack of proper use of labour. The company
therefore had to recall several units of the phone for ensuring the safety of the customers.
Reason for the failure- The reason due to which Samsung Galaxy Note 7 failed was
overheating of its battery. Therefore it can be said that the processes which were used for the
purpose of designing of the smartphone were not efficient enough which caused this defect. This
led to creation of an impact on the reputation and goodwill of the company and thus affected its
brand image in front of the customers.
AC 2.4: Assessment of business case for the use of ethical and sustainable resources
International Meducare is a not-for-profit organization. Therefore it needs certain
resources so that it is able to sustain. Therefore its managers are required to make use of ethical
and sustainable resources because of the following reasons-
 Labour-intensive organization- International Meducare is a labour-intensive
organization. Therefore as a result it has the requirement of certain type of resources.

Thus its managers need to make sure that they use ethical and sustainable resources in
their organization effectively and efficiently.
 Involved in voluntary activities- As International Meducare is actively involved in the
facilitation of voluntary activities this will be able to make sure that it is able to make use
of ethical and sustainable resources for this purpose.
 Facilitation of work- The work of International Meducare involves the use of different
types of resources. The managers of the organization therefore are required to make sure
that they are able to facilitate the work by using ethical and sustainable resources.
 Right business practices- As International Meducare is a not-for-profit organization it
needs to be involved in the right business practices. The management of the organization

Thus from this case it can be interpreted that the businesses are required to achieve their

AC2M1: Evaluation of high-profile cases of wastage of resources
These cases are-
 Blackberry- Blackberry launched certain smartphones. These smartphones were not
successful in the market which resulted in the wastage of resources for the company. In
the manufacturing of these smartphones the physical resources were wasted as the
manpower had to put in a lot of labour hours, financial resources were also wasted
because there was an investment of a lot of money in it. Thus this resulted in a loss of
resources for the company as the products launched were not successful in the market and
could not meet the needs and requirements of the different customers. It also affected the
goodwill of the company in the market. In this way Blackberry learnt that launching of
such smartphones which cannot satisfy the customers will only damage its image and
thus has avoided from launching such products.
 Samsung- Samsung launched Note 7 which had some major defects which were noticed
by the customers. Thus the company had to roll-back the production and this resulted in
wastage of the resources for the company. The defects in Note 7 were noticed by the
customers and were highlighted by the media. In manufacturing this smartphone, the

company faced a loss of physical resources as a lot of labour hours were wasted, the loss
of financial resources was also witnessed because the company had to invest a lot of
money in making this smartphone. Further the company had to roll back the production
and remove the defects from the smartphones which resulted in additional expenditure.
This has therefore ensured that Samsung carefully manufactures its smartphones so that
no such defects are witnessed in the future which result in wastage of resources.
Thus in this manner there have been instances where the resources of the company have
been wasted. Therefore it is required from the organizations that they make judicial use of their
available resources.
TASK 3
AC 3.1-Assessment of need for human resource planning
Human Resource Planning is a process through which current and future human
resources needs for an organization can be identified in order to achieve the different types of
goals (Macke and Genari, 2019). It serves as a link between human resource management and
the overall strategic plan of a company.
There is a need for human resource planning within the organizations due to multiple
reasons. The reasons are listed as follows-
Shortage of Human Resources- There is a shortage of human resources who are skilful as well
as efficient in their work (Mao and et.al., 2016). Therefore for the organizations it is very crucial
that they are able to ensure that they make use of human resource planning approach in an
effective manner. In Stems which is an agricultural business this approach helps in the
enhancement of productivity. In AluPan, the use of this approach is necessary for the production
of its goods as it is a manufacturing business. In Spirus, this approach is used to achieve the
goals and objectives as it is a call centre.
Replacement of employees- In the organizations, there is a requirement to replace the
employees due to multiple reasons. Thus there is a need for the HR department to ensure that the
replacement is carried out effectively. In Stems, there is a need to use it to replace the workers
during off-seasons. In AluPan, there is a need to ensure its use so that the employees are
adequately replaced whenever there is a requirement. In Spirus, this enables to identify the
workers who can be replaced.

Reducing employee turnover- In the companies, the requirement is to reduce the employee
turnover (McKinley and et.al., 2017). For the HR department, there is a requirement of ensuring
that this turnover is reduced. In Stems, AluPan and Spirus there is a continuous turnover of
workers due to wrong HR policies which are adopted. With the use Human resource planning
this can be reduced.
Dynamic changes in the business environment- In the firms, there are dynamic
changes which can happen in the business environment. Stems, AluPan and Spirus are affected a
lot by these dynamic changes. Thus these businesses require Human resource planning to deal
with them.
AC 3.2- Evaluation of the methods for monitoring and improving employee performance
These methods are as follows-
 KPIs- A Key Performance Indicator helps a company or organization in measuring their
performance (KEY PEFORMANCE INDICATORS: DO THEY DEFINE SUCCESS?,
2020). The use of these KPIs can be made within the organizations to identify and assess
the overall performance of the employees in different departments like Production,
Finance, HR, Sales, Marketing etc. This can ensure that the overall performance of the
employees can be increased effectively. Thus in the companies like Stems, AluPan and
Spirus its use is essential for the purpose of monitoring and improvement of performance.
 Benchmarking- Benchmarking refers to setting of benchmarks and standards (Meijerink
and Keegan, 2019). Its use can be made to set appropriate benchmarks and standards so
that the performance can be evaluated and measured. Therefore in the organizations like
Stems, AluPan and Spirus its use can be made so that the employee performance can be
monitored and improved.
 Balanced scorecard- Balanced scorecard is a performance management tool which is
used by the organizations to keep a track of the performance of its employees in an
effective manner (Musaddiq and et.al., 2018). In the companies like Stems, AluPan and
Spirus the use of this technique is quite crucial so that the employee performance can be
monitored and improved in an effective manner.
 Setting of goals- By setting appropriate goals which are short-term, medium-term and
long-term in nature the managers will be able to ensure that they are able to monitor and
improve employee performance (Pham, Tučková and Jabbour, 2019). In Stems, AluPan

performance.
 Assessment of productivity- The companies can assess the productivity level of the

AC 3.3- Effectiveness of reward systems
The reward systems are required to be used by the organizations so that appropriate
reward can be given to the employees of the organization for their good performance. The
effectiveness of these systems is as follows-
Context 1- In Stems, AluPan and Spirus the employees are not working in an efficient
manner and are not able to ensure the achievement of their goals and objectives. Therefore this is
creating problems within these organizations as the management has to think of appropriate
policies to be introduced to improve employee performance. It has decided to introduce a reward
system so as to ensure positive boost-up of the performance.
Effectiveness of reward systems-

 Motivation of employees- In the context given above, the use of reward systems will
ensure that the employees are motivated in a proper manner (Shojafar, Cordeschi and
Baccarelli, 2016). When they are given incentives for performing better they will be

Effectiveness of reward systems-
 Upliftment of morale- In this context, the employees in these organizations are already
performing better. There is a need to uplift their morale by giving them incentives and
rewards so that they are able to enhance their performance.
 Achievement of maximum potential- In this context, the workers in these firms are
performing good. For the achievement of maximum potential, the use of reward system
therefore becomes very much essential.
AC3D1- Impact of employee engagement in an organization
Employee Engagement refers to the extent to which the workers are committed,
dedicated and feel passionate towards their work (Xia, Chen and Yang, 2017). In it, the
employees are required to show their commitment towards the organization. There is a particular
impact which it is able to create within the organizations. This impact is explained as follows in
the context of Stems, AluPan and Spirus-
Stems- As Stems is an agricultural business, it requires good productivity and job
commitment on the part of its workers to be able to attain the desired level of goals and
objectives. Due to employee engagement introduced here the workers are able to concentrate in a
better manner on their particular tasks and therefore are able to specialize in their filed helping
the organization a lot to achieve optimum performance.

AluPan- AluPan is a manufacturing business. For ensuring that good products are
produced its workers need to show full dedication in their work. With the introduction of
employee engagement, the employees are able to make sure that they show the right approach
and commitment towards their work and thus this is quite useful for them to achieve the right
performance effectively and efficiently.
Spirus- Spirus is a call centre and in it many employees work handling the clients of
different countries. There are different teams which have been created which need to put their
focus on the achievement of their specific aims and objectives. Thus the focus is put by the HR
department here to ensure employee engagement. The workers are motivated regularly and
special training sessions are held which ensure employee engagement in a proper manner and
leads towards the achievement of goals and objectives.

Employee performance is crucial for the organizations so that they are able to identify
and assess the overall performance of the workers (Zaid, Jaaron and Bon, 2018). For assessment
of the overall performance the companies are required to make use of the available data and
different types of techniques. The data with International Meducare requires to make judgements
on employee performance is as follows-
Number of projects- International Meducare is an organization which deals in multiple
projects around the world. Thus it is a major KPI which can be used by the organization for
gathering the required data to make a judgement on the employee performance. Thus in this
manner the company will be able to identify its efficient workers.
Number of people trained- International Meducare organizes training for people all
around the world. Therefore it is an important KPI which is essential in the context of the
organization to identify the coverage of people by a particular employee engaged in a specific
project. This will allow the firm to assess and judge the performance of its employees.
Performance of tasks- The organizations should be quite specific in their approach with
regards to the tasks which they are allocating to the different employees. It is a crucial KPI which
has to be covered by the companies so that they are able to effectively manage their particular
tasks. In International Meducare, different tasks are allocated to various employees so that they

The data which is required for making judgement on the utilisation of physical
resources is as follows-
Cost of production of information materials- This is a crucial aspect which has to be
considered by the organizations dealing specifically in providing service (Zhang and et.al.,
2017). In International Meducare the costs which are associated with these materials has to be
analysed. This will help a lot in making judgement on the use of physical resources. Therefore its
data should be closely analysed.
Cost of wastage- When physical resources are used within a particular organization there
are also chances of wastage occurring with their use (Shamim and et.al., 2016). In the context of
International Meducare, the wastage is associated with the materials not used properly. Thus by

use of physical resources.
Checking of budget- An organization needs to check its production budget to identify
the problems associated with it if any. By assessing this budget in a proper manner the company

ensure that physical resources are properly utilized. Therefore the budgetary data should be
utilized here by the managers.
Quality check- In organizations dealing with the manufacturing processes there is a need
to check the quality of the products made (Mao and et.al., 2017). Thus this helps the managers in
making a judgement on the use of physical resources. In the context of International Medicure it
is essential to check the quality of its products by judging the utilization of physical resources.
Thus the data regarding it is crucial for the managers and supervisors.
KPIs- This means Key Performance Indicators. The use of KPIs must be made in the
organizations so that they are able to judge the utilization of their physical resources. This is
done with the use of metrics. In the context of International Medicure, KPIs should be used
properly so that the company identifies whether its physical resources are being used optimally.
Cost assessment- With the use of cost assessment the utilization of physical resources in
the organizations can be assessed properly. In International Medicure, cost assessment should be
done so that the identification of the use of physical resources in an efficient manner can be
done. Thus in this way the managers will be able to identify the varied costs which are associated
with the different types of processes in which the physical resources are used.
AC4M1- Evaluation of resource management practices
The resource management practices which have been adopted in the different types of
organizations are listed as follows-
Tesco- Efficient HRM techniques have been applied by the HR managers in the HR
department of the company. This has ensured that Tesco is able to keep its employees happy and
satisfied which further increases their level of commitment and dedication towards their work.
The following strategies were followed in the company in this regard-
 Reward System- Reward System was introduced in the company to be able to identify
those workers who have been performing efficiently and effectively in their tasks at

work. Accordingly incentives and bonuses are paid according to the performance. This
positively boosts up the confidence level of the employees and they are able to
concentrate better on their work. Thus his has proved to be a useful strategy in the
company.
 Employee Performance Monitoring System- With the use of Employee Performance
Monitoring System Tesco is now able to identify the right ways which can be adopted for
the judgement of the performance of its workers. Thus this has ensured that the problems
and issues which the workers are facing are identified and are resolved as soon as
possible.
Amazon- Amazon is one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world. Thus it has
set up its warehouses in different parts of the world which are used to store different types of
products to be sold to the customers. For the purpose of management of physical resources the
company adopts the following strategies-
 Tracking of movement of goods- Amazon has installed a software through which the
tracking of movement of goods from its warehouses is easily captured. By using it the
company's managers are able to check the inflows as well as outflows of the goods in a
proper manner. With its warehouse management software, the company is able to track
any mismanagement very quickly and is able to take rectifying actions so that it can solve
the problems and issues.
 Monitoring of supply chain- Amazon has an efficient supply chain. However it needs
continuous monitoring on the part of the managers so that problems and issues in it can
be identified and solved. Therefore the management of Amazon ensures that the supply
chain is monitored in a proper manner which results in efficient and effective use of
physical resources in the processes of the organization.
Thus, from the above examples of Tesco and Amazon it can be said that both the
companies have been efficient in their resource management. While Tesco has been successful in
its Human Resource Management Amazon has efficiently handled its physical resources taking it
towards success.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that resource management is a practice which
ensures that resources within the organization are handled well so that they are used optimally to

derive the best benefit from their usage which can get good results for the company. It is the role
of the business managers to oversee that the diverse needs and requirements of the organization
are met properly by making the correct and optimal use of the various types of resources which
are available within its processes. There are different resource requirements of businesses
operating in diverse sectors. Resource Management has a particular importance for the managers.
Effective use of physical resources is necessary in the context of the organizations. The use of
human resources must be made efficiently in the companies. Also, there is a requirement of data
so that the judgements on the efficient use of human and physical resources can be made.
