Literature review
1. Wireless Sensor Networks
According to Abbasi, and Younis the use of wireless sensor networks are growing
rapidly and many computer networks are associated with the WSN technology to
improve the efficiency of the communication [1]. In this paper, the researcher evaluated
the security of the wireless sensor networks and a literature review also conducted to
improve the effectiveness of the research. Betts, Meyer-Bodemann, Muller, and Zhu
observed that the wireless sensor networks allow individuals to communicate with the
ad-hoc servers and interconnect computer system with the base station [3]. The aim of
this study is to analyse the concept of wireless sensor networks and technologies,
remote monitoring of devices, wide area network and WSN applications. The wireless
sensor network is defined as the computer system which is mainly used to control and
monitor the physical conditions of the environment and organizing the stored data at
the central location. It is used in the field of computer science for communication
purpose and transfers data or information from one location to another. The researcher
also provided the definition of the WSN that is it is a wireless process that consists of
huge numbers of low power equipment’s and it is used to transfer data from one
person to another. According to Fadel and other the wireless sensor networks have the
ability to increase the performance of the networks and it can be used for long distance
communication because it does not require any connecting wires [4].
2. Remote monitoring of devices
According to Alumona, Idigo, and Nnoli, remote monitoring is a technique which
facilitates the monitoring of computer networks with the help of remote and wireless
technologies [2]. The researcher analysed that the remote monitoring devices are the
capability to assists network administrator with efficient network infrastructure. Fight
Case provided their views on this topic and evaluated that there are mainly three types
of remote monitoring techniques used in computing devices such as pings, SNMPs, and
Syslogs [5]. Remote monitoring is a type of platform which is used to access the
computer networks and devices with the help of remotes and other peripheral devices.
Recent investigation about wireless sensor networks did not provide in depth analysis

literature review provides an in-depth analysis of WSN technology. In which every
technique gather the relevant data or information from the individual’s networks and
servers. According to Zhang, Wu, Han, and Yu, ping is the basin remote monitoring
approach which is used to test and perform the particular host networks on the
computer system and SNMP is used to obtain the data from the remote devices such as
printers [12]. In which researcher conducted a survey to gather the views of other
individuals on the remote monitoring devices and they estimated that remote
monitoring devices play a significant role in the field of health care for monitoring the
patients’ health by using wireless sensor networks.
3. Network sensors for wide area networks
According to Mikhaylov, Petaejaejaervi, and Haenninen wide area network is one of the
advanced sensor networks which is used to interconnect numbers of computer devices
across cities, state and country [6]. It has the potential to transfer data or information
over long distance and many consumers and companies are using this sensor network.
Negra, Jemili, and Belghith highlighted that the wide area network provides long
distance communication between the transmitter and receiver and by using this
technology people can improve the efficiency of their system [7]. WAN is an advanced
network system which is used to produce the wide area network in the city and college.
It is an advanced version of the LAN and MAN but the data speed of WAN is less as
compare to the LAN and it has low data transfer rate rather than other. All these are
drawbacks of the wide area networks but the main advantage of this network is that it
covers the broad areas like city, country or whole world [8].
4. Wireless Sensor Technologies and Application
Rashid and Rehmani evaluated that the rate of wireless sensors technologies are
growing rapidly which is used to connect the computer devices with the networks
through the wireless system [9]. In which the researcher provided theoretical
information about wireless sensor technology and their applications. According to
Shaikh, and Zeadally, wireless sensor connects with the many nodes and networks with
the help of communication unit where a transceiver encompasses the functionality of
the transmitter and receiver [10]. The researcher also discussed the major technologies
used in the wireless networks and their application in the different sectors. Water
monitoring with the help of wireless sensor technology is a very common application of

WSN and it is also used for controlling and managing the data of consumers. Term
wireless sensor technology is the full-service provider of the wireless networks and
such kind of technologies are used to connect two or more computing devices with each
other through wireless networks. Petäjäjärvi and others argued that the wireless
sensors are low cost, low power and very efficient networks which is used for data
processing and wireless communication [8]. The author also analysed that the wireless
sensors use the micro-electro mechanical system technology to enhance the efficiency
of the communication system. There are major four components of the wireless sensor
networks sensing unit, a processing unit, a communication unit, and power supply [11].
There are many applications of wireless sensor technologies, for example, disaster relief
operation, military applications, environmental applications, medical applications,
home applications, and many more. In which home appliance is one of the common
applications of wireless sensor networks where individuals use the wireless networks
to control and monitor the temperature of AC, control lights and fans, remote control
and many more.
This study is completely based on the wireless sensor networks and remote monitoring
of devices and readers can enhance their skills and experience in the field of WSN
technologies. Today, many users and organizations are using wireless networks and
devices for communication purpose and improving the efficiency of the system.
