INTRODUCTION
Social psychology is determine as scientific study related to how people’s feelings,
behave and thoughts are impacted by actual, implied and imagined presence of others. In this
scientific is considered as empirical investigation by adopting the scientific method. In respect of
organization, social psychology refers to behavior of an individual related or relevant to the
several fields such as attitude change, behavior change, communication, group process and many
more (Andreouli, 2019). The respective report is based on case study of a film Up In The Air,
which describe about the different generation i.e. baby boomers, generation X and generation Y.
It also defined about the social psychology of different generations. This report includes
information about benefits of social psychology related to organizational behavior and it will
also include impact of social psychology on conflict, co-operation and decision making. Report
also defines about relationship among the different generation as well as it also include essay on
contemporary issues in organisational behavior by using knowledge of social psychology.

behavior in the context of the case study.
Social psychology is determined as understanding of individual behavior within a social
context. There are several factors include in social psychology such as group processes, social
cognition, self concept, aggression, attitudes, stereotypes, interpersonal processes and many
more. It is also considered as factors which cause behaviors in order to unfold in an allotted way
in presence of others. It is also determined as traditional bridged the gap among the sociology as
well as psychology. Social psychology in respect of organization behavior is determined as
situation or study of human behavior within a workplace (Bailey and et. al., 2019). According to
this case study, it is social psychology that generations are divided into three sections i.e. baby
boomer, generation X and generation Y. These all generations are present in an organization
which impact on the organizational behavior and it is essential for management to understand the
social psychology in effective manner so that they can develop decision properly according to
the generation gap.

According to the case study, baby boomer is considered as people who are born between
mid 1940 and mid 1960. According to social psychology baby boomer scored differently in
different aspects such as they score high in being productive part of company (69%),
hardworking (73%), team player (56%), challenge management (48%) and nurturing other are
development (55%). On the other hand respective generation are lagged in some aspects
according to social psychology such as adaptable (10%), diversity (12%), collaborative (20%),
leadership (16%) and flexibility (21%) (Budge and et. al, 2019). Along with this, respective
generation is also considered as very less sensitive in respect of current views on racial in
equality, discrimination, fairness and many more at workplace. According to social psychology,
in respect of organization behavioral baby boomers are considered as individual who like to
perceive racial diversity at workplace rather than challenging as well as they are more focuses on
retirement plan and worries for their finance.
According to social psychology another generation is generation X in organization
behavior and it will include those individual who born between late 1960 and mid 1970. They
are ranked differently on different aspects such as for productive part (73%), revenue generators
(58%), team management (70%), team player (65%), possessing adaptability (53%) and
possessing adaptability (49%). This generation is also considered as group which more tolerant
for team members of different racial background. In addition to this, there is also lack behind in
some aspects such as in being a cost effective (34%) as well as in executive presence (28%).
These are considered as older employees at the organization who have lower level of expectation
from the leadership abilities of younger employees or supervisors.
The last type of generation according to social psychology is generation Y which include
millennial generation who are born in between late 1970 and mid to late 1990. Respective
generation get best rating in being technology savvy (78%), leveraging social media (70%),
enthusiastic (68%), adaptability (41%), collaborative nature (27%), manage other generation Y’s
(69%) and entrepreneurial (29%) (Bui, Chau and et. al., 2019). These generation people are
highly sensitive in nature in respect of issues of fairness as well as discrimination at the
workplace. On the other hand, there are some aspects in which respective generation get lagged
such as productive part (58%), hardworking (38%) and team player (45%).

These are the main factors or points through which organization behavior can be
expanded through social psychology consideration. This is so because all generation people
perform or conduct their work according to their skills, abilities and knowledge level and
through social psychology its rank can be determined. Along with this, it also provides
opportunity to company management to develop strategies according to the different generations
i.e. baby boomer, generation X and generation Y as well as their ranks.
2. Analyze the potential conflicts, co-operation and decision-making in the generational shifts
observed in the organisation, using your knowledge of social psychology.
In the given case of Up In The Air film it is social psychology that there are main three
types of generations i.e. baby boomer, generation X and generation Y. It is also considered that
these all generations have different perspective and thinking according to which they take
decision as well as conduct their work (Campbell and Hay, 2019). So it is essential for their
organization to consider as well as evaluates all generations i.e. baby boomer, generation X and
generation Y as well as they also need to develop strategies and plans accordingly. This is so
because their working styles are different as well as they also have different ratings in different
aspects.
In respect of baby boomer, their perspective related to the potential conflict, co –
operation and decision making are different from the other generations because they are
generally considered as lower qualification. Respective generation also not mainly involved in
the conflict situation because they are less sensitive to the topic related to discrimination, fairness
and racial inequality at the workplace. These people like to perceive racial diversity in a
company as rather challenging it. It is so because they are more focuses as well as worried about
the retirement plans and their finances after they left the job or get retire. Respective generations
people are less co – operative as well as they also not take part in decision making as compare to
other generation people.
Furthermore, another generation is generation X who are born in between the late 1960
and mid of 1970. The perspective of respective generation is different from the other two as well
as they are individual who have very low expectations of leadership abilities of the young
supervisors which show that they are less co – operative in nature mainly with the young people
(Le Coze, 2019). This is so because they think that young supervisors didn’t have much talent

and knowledge related to work as well as they also think that young people not believe in hard
work. In respect of conflict generation X people have more tolerant of team members who show
that they not create situation of conflict. In respect of decision making they are not much
effective because they need to huge time for adapting new things as well as they also get low
rating in collaboration in respect of other.
In addition to this, the last generation is generation Y who born in between the late 1970
and mid to the late 1990. Respective generation is highly technology friendly as compare to the
other two generations i.e. baby boomers as well as generation X. In respect of decision making
they take part when the topic is related to technology, social media marketing, and innovation
and so on. They are also highly enthusiastic in nature which encourages them to adopt new,
innovative as well as unique technology at the workplace (Lind, 2019). Generation Y get 27
percent in the collaborative skill which show they are co – operative in nature but not too much
but they has adaptability skills that help them in adapting new situation or condition in effective
manner. These people are very sensitive to the several issues such as discrimination as well as
fairness at the workplace which means they can do conflict if there is situation arise related to
discrimination or inequality in a company.
3. Analyze the relationships between the different generations in the context of their perceptions
of inequality, fairness and discrimination within the organisation.
Baby boomers don’t believe in inequality, fairness and discrimination as they are born
within 1940 to 1960. In this generation, people believe is discrimination between male and
females. Along with this, on the basis of several other factors they do discrimination such as age,
gender, culture and many more (Martinussen, 2019). But they are productive part of company as
well as hardworking also which is important for company in accomplishment of their goals and
objectives. In simple term it can be said that baby boomers are less sensitive in current views on
discriminations, racial inequality and fairness within business firm. In addition to this, generation
X members are most productive part of company it includes those born between the late 1960
and 1970. In comparison of baby boomers, generation X are somehow sensitive towards
inequality, fairness ad discrimination issues which occurs while working within an business firm.
According to generation X these all are major issues which need to be focused so that
organization will conduct their operation without any discrimination in effective manner.

Moreover, generation Y includes the millennial generation which are born within late 1970 and
1990. People of this generation are more sensitive as they think more about discrimination,
fairness and inequality practices which take place in business firm as well as society (Mesgari
and Okoli, 2019). Because their perception is to provide equal opportunities to each and every
people without any type of discrimination between them.

Analysis of contemporary issues in organisational behavior using knowledge of social
psychology.
Contemporary issues are determined as specific idea, event, opinion or topic in specific
subject which is relevant to the current day. It is generally found in almost any reason or matter
of interest. There are several examples of contemporary issues such as income inequality,
economic crises, climate change and many more (Moore, 2019). It is essential for a company
management to understand contemporary issues in effective manner because that will help them
in developing strategies and plan in effective manner. In respect of organization behavior
contemporary issues is determined as issues which is faced by a company while conducting their
business operations and functions. There are several contemporary issues which are faced during
the organizational behavior by using knowledge of social psychology such as managing
challenges, organizational challenges, global challenges, workplace issues and challenges,
environmental challenges and many more. In respect of managing challenges which is related to
the different issues of organizational behavior such as work force diversity according to which it
is essential to adopt diversity at the workplace in effective manner so that there will be less
chance of conflict among the employees (Olsson and Sundh, 2019). Moreover in this respect it is
social psychology, due to diversity at the workplace company faced issues because it is
psychology of people that their culture and tradition is best so they oppose to follow other’s
culture which leads to conflict at the workplace.
Another contemporary issue related to organizational behavior is workplace issues and
challenges which take place due to affect in employee’s privacy, employee’s rights, change in
expectation of employees, unionism among staffs and many more. It is essential for company to
consider these along with social psychology because that through that management able to

that will help in developing proper decision according to employees capabilities, skills and
abilities. These are the main contemporary issues related to the organizational behavior that use
knowledge of social psychology and it is essential for company management to develop proper
strategies and plans according to these issues so that they can conduct their work properly for
attaining desire goal (Pithouse, 2019). In respect of given case there are three types of
generations i.e. baby boomer, generation X and generation Y as well as it will also essential for
management to considered these generation while developing strategies. Along with this it will
also help in developing understanding of social psychology in respect of organization behavior.
In addition to this in very organization value and diversity is important because through it
they able to make employees feel important as well as it will also motivate them to conduct their
work in effective manner. Through this work quality of staffs also get increased which leads to
high productively as well as it also lead to creative situation at workplace. This is so because
employees feel motivated and comfortable at workplace due to which they like to share
innovative idea through which company can attract more and more audiences and encourage
them to purchase their products (Rizzoli and et. al., 2019). By which an organization profitability
ratio as well as market shares get increased.
Along with this, there is harnessing the values or diversity aiming at the promoting
creativity at the workplace, this can be determined through several benefits or aspects such as
diversity leads to various opinions and perspectives. Through that an organization management
can develop most effective decision which leads to increase in their market shares as well as
profitability. This is so because through diversity employees feel motivated and encouraged by

which they provide innovative as well as creative ideas to company through which management
can develop innovative decision or products or process which help in boost business. Another
benefit gain by a company through it is increase in company strengths because implement of
diversity at workplace help in getting wide range of opportunities through which business can
grow their business at potential marketplace at the domestic, national and international level.
This will also help in meeting need and requirement of customers in effective manner which aid
in gaining high profitability and market shares.
Through this, it can be determined that by adopting diversity at the workplace an
organization able to gain numbers of benefits which help them in growing business in effective
as well as successful manner. But, on the other it have some negative aspects such as sometime
diversity at the workplace lead to conflict situation because employees are belongs from different
culture, religion and so on due to which their language and work style are different. Similarly
happen in respective case, there is diversity on the basis of three generations i.e. baby boomer,
generation X and generation Y (Tasic, Tantri and Amir, 2019). All three generations are
bifurcated on the basis of age group and their perception. It is so because different age group
people have different perception and working style such as baby boomer are not technology
friendly, generation X people not believe on the leadership of company whereas generation Y
people are highly technology friendly and social media (Upham, Bögel and Johansen, 2019).
This show that diversity have both negative as well as positive aspect, so it is essential for a
company to understand each and every aspect of diversity before implement it so that they can
develop effective strategies accordingly.
CONCLUSION
By analyzing above discussed point it can be summarized that understanding of social
psychology is essential because through it a person can understand others perspective as well as
expectation. In respect of organizational behavior it is also necessary for them to understand their
culture and social psychology because through that they can develop strategies as well as plans
in effective manner. According to social psychology there are main three generations at the
workplace i.e. baby boomers, generation X and generation y, in respect of this management need
to understand their perspective as well as skill level because it help in decision making process.
