INTRODUCTION
Social psychology is determine as scientific study related to how people’s feelings,
behave and thoughts are impacted by actual, implied and imagined presence of others. In this
scientific is considered as empirical investigation by adopting the scientific method. In respect of
organization, social psychology refers to behavior of an individual related or relevant to the
several fields such as attitude change, behavior change, communication, group process and many
more (Andreouli, 2019). The respective report is based on case study of a film Up In The Air,
which describe about the different generation i.e. baby boomers, generation X and generation Y.
It also defined about the social psychology of different generations. This report includes
information about benefits of social psychology related to organizational behavior and it will
also include impact of social psychology on conflict, co-operation and decision making. Report
also defines about relationship among the different generation as well as it also include essay on
contemporary issues in organisational behavior by using knowledge of social psychology.

1. Demonstrate your understanding of how social psychology can help explain organisational
behavior in the context of the case study.
Social psychology is determined as understanding of individual behavior within a social
context. There are several factors include in social psychology such as group processes, social
cognition, self concept, aggression, attitudes, stereotypes, interpersonal processes and many
more. It is also considered as factors which cause behaviors in order to unfold in an allotted way
in presence of others. It is also determined as traditional bridged the gap among the sociology as
well as psychology. Social psychology in respect of organization behavior is determined as
situation or study of human behavior within a workplace (Bailey and et. al., 2019). According to
this case study, it is social psychology that generations are divided into three sections i.e. baby
boomer, generation X and generation Y. These all generations are present in an organization
which impact on the organizational behavior and it is essential for management to understand the
social psychology in effective manner so that they can develop decision properly according to
the generation gap.

According to the case study, baby boomer is considered as people who are born between
mid 1940 and mid 1960. According to social psychology baby boomer scored differently in
different aspects such as they score high in being productive part of company (69%),
hardworking (73%), team player (56%), challenge management (48%) and nurturing other are
development (55%). On the other hand respective generation are lagged in some aspects
according to social psychology such as adaptable (10%), diversity (12%), collaborative (20%),
leadership (16%) and flexibility (21%) (Budge and et. al, 2019). Along with this, respective
generation is also considered as very less sensitive in respect of current views on racial in
equality, discrimination, fairness and many more at workplace. According to social psychology,
in respect of organization behavioral baby boomers are considered as individual who like to
perceive racial diversity at workplace rather than challenging as well as they are more focuses on
retirement plan and worries for their finance.
According to social psychology another generation is generation X in organization
behavior and it will include those individual who born between late 1960 and mid 1970. They
are ranked differently on different aspects such as for productive part (73%), revenue generators
(58%), team management (70%), team player (65%), possessing adaptability (53%) and
possessing adaptability (49%). This generation is also considered as group which more tolerant
for team members of different racial background. In addition to this, there is also lack behind in
some aspects such as in being a cost effective (34%) as well as in executive presence (28%).
These are considered as older employees at the organization who have lower level of expectation
from the leadership abilities of younger employees or supervisors.
The last type of generation according to social psychology is generation Y which include
millennial generation who are born in between late 1970 and mid to late 1990. Respective
generation get best rating in being technology savvy (78%), leveraging social media (70%),
enthusiastic (68%), adaptability (41%), collaborative nature (27%), manage other generation Y’s
(69%) and entrepreneurial (29%) (Bui, Chau and et. al., 2019). These generation people are
highly sensitive in nature in respect of issues of fairness as well as discrimination at the
workplace. On the other hand, there are some aspects in which respective generation get lagged
such as productive part (58%), hardworking (38%) and team player (45%).
