Trend of Social Sites in Canada: A Study

The use of internet and social sites amongst the people in all across the globe has increased by multiple folds. Canada and the people of Canada are also not an exception to this general trend. The social sites provide a platform to the people in this busy world to stay in touch with each other even though they are miles away from each other. Thus, the current trend of increasing number of people using social sites is very much on the expected lines. A brief discussion on the trend of social sites among youth and old shall be discussed here.

Introduction:
The use of internet and social sites amongst the people in all across the globe
has increased by multiple folds. Canada and the people of Canada are also not an
exception to this general trend. The social sites provide a platform to the people in this
busy world to stay in touch with each other even though they are miles away from each
other. Thus, the current trend of increasing number of people using social sites is very
much on the expected lines. A brief discussion on the trend of social sites among youth
and old shall be discussed here.
Trend of social sites:
There is a misconception that the internet and online platforms including social
networking sites are only meant for the youth and do not have significant value to the
relatively old generation. However, trends in social sites clearly shows that it is not only
about youth or old rather people in general are quite hooked on the social sites.
Significant proportion of free times are invested by the individuals to surf social sites
and with every passing day the number of users of different social networking sites are
increasing at a rapid speed ("The State of Social Media in Canada", 2018).
Different social sites and trends:
The social networking sites that are most used by the individuals in all across the globe
including Canada include Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Google+,
WeChat, Skype, Emo and many others. It is also important to highlight the fact that with
every passing day the innovation and technology is enhancing the experience of the
people on social sites (Guo, Pathak & Cheng, 2015).

Increase in number of users:
The increase in number of users of social sites is a clear and specific trend. Thus,
whether it is Facebook, whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram or other social networking sites
the number of users in these sites have increased by multiple folds. In fact the number
of people using these mediums are increasing with each passing minute (Jordan, 2014).
A staggering 94% of adult Canadian online users have at-least one account in social
site:
As per the report of a survey conducted on the use of social sites a staggering 94% of
adult internet users in Canada have at-least one social account. It’s a huge percentage
of total internet users as compared to any part of the world.
Most popular social sites in the country:
With 84% of online Canadian adults having their registered profile in Facebook, it is by
far the most popular social site in the country. YouTube and LinkedIn are in second and
third places respectively in terms of online user with 59% and 46% people using both
these mediums (Kim & Lee, 2014).
In order to understand the percentage of adult internet users using different social sites

As can be seen that Facebook is by far the undisputed market leader among the
different social networking and internet sites with 84% of Adult Canadian internet users
using the social platform of Facebook.

The proportion of free time of an average Canadian internet users which he is investing
on social networking sites are increasing with passing of each year. Along with the
increase in proportion of free time spent on social networking sites the rapid increase in
number of users of different social networking sites is another aspect that has clearly
identified from the trends ("The Negative Impact of Social Networking Sites on College Students",
2015).
Conclusion:
It is clearly highlighted in the above discussion that with every passing day the
number of users of different social networking sites are increasing in Canada. A
staggering 94% of adult internet users using social sites in the country is indicative of
huge proportion of people in social sites to interact with each other. Another important
take away from the above report is the way new and improved social networking sites
are introduced along with improving the features of existing social sites to attract the
attention of youth and keep the existing users happy. Increased amount of time of an
adult Canadian is now spend on social sites such as Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn,
Twitter and other such social networking and internet sites.
