retaining them for long time. It helps the organisation in increasing their productivity and
profitability as well.
Importance and impact of employee motivation schemes in context to organisation.
According to the views of Galli, Torelli, and Tibiletti, (2021), Employee motivation is
being defined as the process of increasing the level of confidence, enthusiasm and commitment
in the employees by the mangers and leaders in order to achieve organisational goals and
objectives . It is analysed that employees and staff members are regarded as the assets of the
organisation at the time of creating growth and opportunities in the organisation. So, it is
important for the organisation and mangers to ensure that employees needs and demands should
be fulfil in order to retain them for long time in the organisation. There are various importance of
staff motivation in the organisation. Moreover, this helps the company and organisation in
cutting down their cost of recruiting and hiring of the employees in most effective manner. As
this helps them in maintaining their brand image and maintaining their productivity and
profitability as well. It can be determine that while having a a effective staff motivation
technique, company like Sainsbury is able to enhance their productivity and profitability level.
Company is more focusing on customers needs and performing their functions well to attract
customers towards their brand. As employees motivation is considered as a important factor in
an individual life. There are some of the importance of employees motivation schemes such as it
helps the employees in developing their productivity and potential. As if the employees are
feeling valued in the organisation they they automatically work more,. Next is they engage more
with the other people. As if they get involved in decision making process and are being
rewarding in the organisation. Then this could be results in development of an individual and
enhancing employees engagement with the other staff members. Further, this helps them in
development of an individual as well.
Staff motivation schemes used by Sainsbury for retaining and satisfying employees of
organisation.
From the views of Giorgi, (2021), Staff motivation schemes are the schemes which are
helping the employees in developing and enhancing the skills and knowledge of an individual or
a employee. In context of staff motivation, motivation schemes results in enhancing employees
performance. There are various staff motivation schemes used in Sainsbury to enhance
Document Page
employees effectiveness. These are rewards and recognition. As this is considered as most
important schemes used in organisation to retain employees for long time. If managers and
leaders are providing proper rewards and recognisance on timely basis then employees will be
get more motivated. In relation with Sainsbury, they are providing reward sin the form of bonus,
incentives and appreciation in the form of vacation gifts and trophies. As this helps them in
development of employees and they get motivated. Next motivations schemes used by Sainsbury
is listening to the employees ideas at the time of innovating and decision making process. As if
the mangers are looking for new ideas and innovation related to products then they should
involve employees also in this process so that they could feel valued and this results in getting
motivating employees for long time.
According to Gupta, (2021) By fielding the ideas and making any recommendation could
build relationships among superior and subordinates better and results in achievement of their
goals and objectives. Further, mangers should motivate employees through leaderships styles. As
giving the employees more responsibilities are regarded as motivated them towards achievement
of their goals and objectives. Showing employees and staff member appreciation they work
effectively and building trust on them will results in motivating them. So this helps in changing
attitude towards organisational goals and objectives. Next of the motivation schemes that can be
used in the organisation are setting smart goals and objectives. It is the process of planning and
setting goals and objectives in order to motivate employees towards accomplishment of that goal.
As by setting smart goals, managers will provide a employees one direction which could later
results in focusing on that organisational goal only. This helps the employees in getting
motivated and reaching towards the goal. So, Sainsbury is adopting these motivation schemes in
order to enhance their employees motivation and which helps them in retaining them for long
time in the organisation.
Issues faced by Sainsbury while implementing staff motivation schemes at workplace.
From the views of Heesche, and Bogetoft Pedersen, (2021) There can be various issues
which is being faced by managers and leaders at the time of implementing staff motivation
schemes. As motivation is seeming like a simple activity but when it comes in practising it
becomes more challenging. There can be various challenges faced by mangers such as changing
of the workforce- as employees are considered as a part of organisation with having various
needs and demands and also expectations. As several employees are having several beliefs,

values and culture and attitude and thinking. But many of the organisation is not aware about the
diversity in their workforce and are not aware about motivating several employees. So this
becomes a challenge at the time of implementing workforce motivational planning. Then next
challenge that could be seen is unclear expectations and requirements. As if the mangers will not
set clear expectations for employees or providing them feedbacks creating workplace conditions
in which motivation issues and problems could be happen.
According to Khan, (2021) Employees in this feeling all lost and unable to work in
undefined goals. Also by having unclear expectation, the employees could do sometimes
mistakes ans this could results in conflicts. So, it is most important to provide proper and clear
expectation to the employees so that they could focus on their organisational goals and
objectives. Then next challenge is lack of adequate material could be results- as this can become
a motivational issues for mangers and the organisation both. As staff members feels demotivated
and undervalued when they did not find any ownerships or mangers did not provide them
necessary assets. So if employees do not get proper resources of working then they get
demotivated and this results in leaving of the organisation. In context with Sainsbury , the most
popular issues which can be faced by mangers at the time of implementing the motivation
schemes is that lack of unclear goals and changing of the workforce. As this may results in
increasing in conflicts and lack of managing the work and organisation could not able to
complete their task as well.
Conclusion to literature review
From the above it can be concluded that literature review is most necessary for the
researcher to conduct because this helps them in analysing of their informations and getting
proper knowledge and information about a particular task or a topic. In this given topic, staff
motivation techniques are most important for the organisation to enhance their employees
productivity and potential (Lasmana, Nurlimah, and Yuniati, 2021). This helps the employees
and organisation both ion development of the opportunities and productivity as well. So
motivation techniques are most important for organisation in retention of talented employees.

the investigator in collecting appropriate methods an approaches which results in getting accurate
Document Page
data and information about a given topic. There are various methods which helps the investigator
in achieving their research aims and objectives. In this research onion framework is used:
Research philosophies
This consist of two philosophies like positivism and interpretivism. As this helps the
researcher in collecting and evaluating of the information which they receive in effective
manner. In this given study, the investigator is using positivism philosophy of research (Watfa,
and Kaddoumi, 2021). As this will helps in gaining more information about a atopic through
quantitative basis and results in achievement of research aims and objectives. This philosophy
helps the investigator in saving the time and collecting accurate information in comparison with
interpretivism philosophy.
Research approaches
It is the process which helps in evaluating the data about a given topic and this helps the
investigator in achievement of research aims and objectives. This consist of two approaches that
is deductive and inductive approach. In this present research, the researcher is using deductive
approach because this helps in analysing the quantitative data about the motivation schemes used
in the organisation. This helps the researcher in gaining more quantitative data in less period of
time.
Research strategy
Research strategy is used in the research project. Because there are various type of
research strategy which are being used by investigator in order to collect data and information.
As these strategies are action research, survey, experimental research and case study etc. all of
these strategies are important at the time of collecting any information. In this present study, the
researcher is using survey which is conducted through questionnaire and consist of numerical
data and information (Wen, and et.al., 2021). This helps the investigator in getting accurate and
true information about a particular topic.
Data collection
Data can be collected through two from these are primary and secondary source of
information. As in this current research, investigator is using bot of these methods in order to
collect data and information. Primary source of information is collected through questionnaire
which consist of close ended questions and will be filled by respondents. Primary data is
Document Page
analysed through frequency tables and graphs and further there is a interpretation made of the
results. Secondary information is collected through literature review which provides in depth
knowledge about a topic. This consist of information collected through books and journals.
Primary data is analysed through questionnaire survey which consist of 11 close ended questions
related to the topics and is to be filled by respondents who are the employees of Sainsbury
organisation. Then after the information and data is collected, the researcher will be
interpretation the results in order to get accurate information.
Research choice
There can be two types of research choices. These are quantitative and qualitative
research choice (Zhao, Shen, and Tang, 2021). Both of the research are most significant for the
investigator in collecting information about a topic. But in this current research, researcher is
using quantitative research choice to collect data and information. As this helps them in
collecting true knowledge and helps in assembling numerical data through which results are
being achieved on timely basis. Also, this choice of research will the researcher in collecting
information at less time as compared to qualitative research. This is more convenient by
researcher.
Sampling
Sampling is the method which selects some of the samples from large number of
population developed in the organisation. As there are two types of sampling m,methods which
are being presented in research. These are probabilistic and non- probabilistic. In this current
research, probabilistic research is used which involves random research sampling because this
gives equal chances of being selected as a sample (Thoits, 2021). In this present research,
researcher is selecting 40 employees of Sainsbury as a sample who are asked to fill the
questionnaire form in order to collect information.

about motivation techniques and schemes used in the organisation. This research helps me in
focusing on my strength and weaknesses. As I am able to enhance my communication and
decision making skills. As by conducting primary analysis, I will be able to communicate with
various respondents and by this I have enhanced some of the information. Then next I have make
use of Gantt chart and WBS which helps me in completing my research on a given time period.
By this I have enhanced my time management skills. Further, I gained various knowledge about
a given topic. Further, the researcher will be achieving the first objectives that is to know

importance and impact of employee motivation schemes in context to organisation. Second
objectives is to determine staff motivation schemes used by Sainsbury for retaining and
satisfying employees of organisation – is not being achieved by researcher to collect better
information. Then next objective is to examine the issues faced by Sainsbury while
implementing staff motivation schemes at workplace- as this cannot be achieved effectively by
researcher because this cannot be getting true information.
The alternative methodology which can be used in this research is interview
questionnaire as this will helps in getting true knowledge by every applicant and getting more
knowledge. In this research researcher is using questionnaire survey in order to collect data and
information. Then by having interview questions, the investigator would be better. Further, the
research could use interpretivism approach and qualitative research in order to collect data and
information.

communication, time management and many more. Moreover, it also help investigator to gain
opportunities in future and conduct study systematically and properly.
Section Three: Literature review
Use of key literature sources to support your research question,
objective or hypothesis:
Talent management
According to Asdar (2018), talent management is defined as the process of attracting,
developing, retaining talented staff members within the organisation for longer time period.
In addition to this, it is considered as an important aspect within an organisation as it help in
increasing productivity, develop brand image, enhance market and gain higher profitability
in an effective manner.
Literature review
Concept and importance of employee motivation in context to organization
As per the view point of Aziri, (2019), it is analysed that employees are the asset of an
organization in order to gain higher growth and success at marketplace. It is important for a
business entity to motivate its staff members on a continuous basis as it help in employee
retention and satisfaction at workplace. In addition to this, it also assist an organazation to cut
down the cost of hiring new employees, maintaining its brand image, maintaining
performance, increasing profitability and many more (Aziri, 2019.). Moreover, it is
determined that with the help of staff motivation schemes, company such as Sainsbury is able
to provide effective service to its customer which is one of reason for its higher growth and
attainment of competitive advantage at marketplace.
Staff motivation schemes used by Sainsbury’s for retaining and satisfying employees of
an organization
According to Hanaysha and Hussain (2018), it is determined that there are various employee
motivation scheme used by an organization with an objective to satisfy and retain employees
for longer time period. One of these scheme is providing incentives equal to the inputs they
put in order to meet with the targets and attain objectives. It help in motivating staff members
to implement activities in a proper and systematic manner which leads to increase in
performance and profitability of a company (Hanaysha and Hussain, 2018). Another
technique is providing training end development session, it help staff members to gain both
personal and professional growth in an effective manner. Apart from this, there are also other
strategies and schemes used such as allow participation of employees in decision-making,
equal pay, maintaining equality, providing timely incentives and bonus, appraisals,

promotions and many more.
Issues faced by Sainsbury’s whole implementing staff motivation schemes at workplace
As per the view point of Lasrado and et. al., (2017), it is analyzed that there are various issues
faced by an organization at the time of executing staff motivation techniques at workplace.
One of the issue is non acceptance by employees as there are many staff members who is not
agree with the scheme given by company which in turn develop a negative mindset of
employees towards organization and decline their performance level as well (Lasrado,
Gomiseck and Uzbeck, 2017). In addition to this, lack of communication among employer
and employees is also the issue faced while implementing staff motivation techniques. There
are also other problems faced such as dissatisfaction among employees, non participation of
staff members, lack of resources, lack of time and so on.
The earlier studies state about staff motivation schemes used by companies but have lack
information regarding its impact on employee satisfaction and retention. In addition to this,
there is no information regarding challenges faced by companies because of implementing
staff motivation techniques. In order to find this research gap, the present investigation is
conducted.

Section Five: Research approach and methodologies
What type of research approach and methodologies are you likely
to use and why? What your areas of research will cover:
It is one of the significant aspect of conducting an investigation as it facilitate investigator to
collect as well as evaluate data in an accurate manner associated to topic. Along with this,
there are various forms of methodology which will be important for researcher in attaining
research objectives timely and successfully. The significant aspects of research methodology
is given below:
Research philosophy: Positivism and interpretivism are the two form of research
philosophies that help in collecting and evaluating data about the impact of staff motivation
schemes for employee retention at workplace (Daniel, Kumar and Omar, 2018). For the
present research, positivism research philosophy will be applied by investigator as it
help in gathering and evaluating quantitative data. In addition to this, it also saves time as
well as cost of investigator as compared to interpretivism philosophy.
Research approach: It is a procedure which will be applied in order to evaluate data about
topic with the help of two approaches that is deductive and inductive research approach. For
the present study, deductive research approach will be used by researchers as it helping
analyzing quantitative data about employee motivation schemes in organization. In addition
to this, the main reason for using detective approach is to gain quantitative data within less
cost and time period.
Research strategy: There are different types of research strategy that is action research,
experimental research, case study, survey and so on. All this are important strategies but as
per the topic, survey is taken into consideration by researcher. One of the main reason is it
help researcher by providing numerical information within less time frame. In addition to
this, it also help investigator to gain in-depth knowledge about study due to which research
objectives is attained timely.
Research Choice: There are mainly two types of research choices that is quantitative and
Document Page
qualitative. Both these research choice are significant but as per the topic, quantitative
research choice is effective and appropriate as it help in assembling numerical data due to
which results is achieved timely (Bairagi and Munot, 2019). In addition to this, it also
consumes less time of researcher and is easy as well as convenient to apply by researcher.
Data collection: It is important for an investigator to select an appropriate method for data
collection as the overall result is depends on it. Primary and secondary are the two
main sources of data collection and both these are important for collecting data. In the present
research, both the sources of data collection will be used by researcher in order to gain valid
results. In order to collect primary data, a questionnaire will be developed by investigator as it
help in gaining in-depth knowledge about research topic. On the other hand, various articles,
books, publication results on other sources is used for collecting secondary data. This help
researcher to analyze the research gap and attain research objectives in an effective and
appropriate manner. The main reason of collecting primary information is it assist in
collecting original and fresh information due to which valid and reliable conclusion is drawn.
Secondary information help in analysing the research gap due to which research objective is
achieved timely.
Sampling: It is referred as a procedure to collect sample size from the overall population in
order to collect and gain information about topic. There are mainly two forms of sampling
techniques that is probability and non- probability (Kumar, 2018). For the present
investigation, probability sampling is appropriate and useful as it facilitates in selection of
large sample size in less time and cost. Random sampling, which is a form of probability
sampling is applied by researcher and 40 employees of Sainsbury will be chosen randomly
for collecting information about impact of employee motivation schemes at workplace.
Data analysis: There are various methods of data analysis such as thematic analysis,
frequency distribution analysis and so on. In the present study, frequency distribution analysis
is taken into consideration as it help in analysing primary data in an effective manner and also
represent it in the form of graphs.
