Overview of the topic
Employee motivation relates to the passion, energy, and competition that employees
bring to an organization in community to enable them perform better. Staff motivation is
essential for managing and retaining outstanding people within the organization (Cappelli,
and Keller, 2017). Companies employ a variety of strategies to enhance employee morale,
allowing them to perform well and increase their degree of satisfaction.
Background of the organisation
The nominated group to undertake this research is ASDA. It is a worldwide grocery
chain based in the United Kingdom. Also this research is going to focus and consider
different kind of research methodologies to collect the information and data so that they can
analyse the best possible outcomes for the company to achieve the targeted goals and
objectives. Other than this, the researcher is going to give some recommendations also to the
company so that they can achieve their best outcomes in order to bring more opportunities.

It is that part that discussed previous collected data on the same topic by different authors and
researcher. Here secondary data is being used to know the perception of the authors on the
topic.
What is the concept of staff motivation, employee retention and talent management?
As per the view of (Taylor, 2018), staff motivation refers as enthusiasm, energy and
commitment that an employee brings in the company. Employee retention is the ability of the
organisation to possess the employee in the company only, for longer time duration. Talent
management is a step towards attracting, hiring, developing, retaining and managing the
excellent candidate inside the organisation. Staff motivation plays a vital role in employee
performance and productivity which helps company to retain and manage talents. The major
technique which is helpful in overall growth of the company by developing employee morale
is termed staff motivation. It holds the major role and responsibility of human resource
management of a company for develop ing the employee retention techniques which are
helpful in focused development and growth.
According to views of (Collings, Mellahi, and Cascio, 2017), employee retention includes
bringing back different employees who are involved in business practices. The talent
management is considered as a major way of managing capability of different employees.
Also it is considered as the major role of a company to manage talent of different employees
to increase their satisfaction and job development. The focus of major companies in the
international and the national market should be on analysing the employee's engagement, so
as to to promote the talent management. It is also one of the major role and responsibility of
top level and strategic management of a business to focus on employee retention to bring
back well experienced employees. In the recent times, it is crucial role and responsibility of
management of ASDA to focus on motivational development to increase mental strength of
employees. As stated by (Pandita, and Ray, 2018), it is also one of the major role of a
company to develop strategies according to employee motivation for focused growth and
expansion. It is also one of the crucial role of a company to analyse all the major objectives
which are set at the starting of financial year. The companies which are present in the global
and domestic marketplace should focus on development of HR based operations in order to
achieve targets related to employee motivation and retention.

Which staff motivation strategies is used by ASDA in retaining and managing talent
employee?
(Vaiman, Collings, and Scullion, 2017), Motivation in staff plays a crucial role in enhancing
the satisfaction level and employee retention. Motivation acts as a catalyst in improving the
performance and productive in an individual. ASDA use various staff motivation strategy to
retain and manage their talents. The foremost strategy that can be used by ASDA is reward
system. Rewarding employee on the basis of performance will boost the morale of the staff as
they feel that their work is being appreciated. Second strategy that is acquired by them is
creating friendly work environment. This will help employee as they can open share there
thought and ideas. The ASDA company focus on implementation of various theories and
models which are most appropriate for developing motivational strategies. As stated by
(Hasanpour, Abdollahi, and Memari, 2019), all major companies which are performing their
operations in the international marketplace should focus on analysing goals and objectives in
order to achieve them with help and support of strategies. The motivational strategies also
include application of content and process theories of motivation. In order to increase the
staff motivation, it is important for the company to implement motivational theory of
MASLO. The management of ASDA company should also focus on development of a crucial
planning framework which is includes strategic actions. Retention and management of
talented employees also includes application of major theories like human relationship
theory. The human relationship theory is helpful in management of systematic relations
between employees in order to increase their productivity. According to (Saddozai, Hui,
Akram, and Memon, 2017), all main companies should also hire trained and skilled HR
professionals who are competent enough to handle company's operations. This is also one of
the major role of top level management and board of directors of ASDA to promote retention
and talent management for focused growth of company. In the current competitive scenario,
it is very much crucial and necessary for a company to put emphasis on long term and short
term goals associated with retention and management of talent. This is major role of
employees also to follow all the strategic actions and plans developed by government for
focused business growth.
