Stewardship

INTRODUCTION
Stewardship refers to the practice of responsible planning as well as management of
operations and resources of a business entity done by a third party who is not internally a part of
the organisation (Moskell and Allred, 2013). The logics and ideologies of stewardship are easily
applicable to nature, business environment, health, information, property, theology etc. The
present assignment is based upon Amerasian which is a multinational organisation engaging in
providing services in the development of infrastructure projects, project financing,
manufacturing, construction, property development, international trading etc. It was established
in the year 1995 and is based on Fort-Worth, Taxes, USA. The present report includes the
aspects of Stewardship model in addition to their advantages and disadvantages.
Stewardship model given by Block (1993)
According to Peter Block, Stewardship is defined as the principles and techniques which
enables an individual to govern oneself together by taking responsibility and ownership. It is the
concept which mainly concentrates on providing control to the customers who gets affected by
any business organisations. However, many academicians make believe to adopt chaotic
approach which focuses on motivating employees to get engage in daily business operations so
that they can sustain in company for longer period of time.
Amerasian is a global service provider who provides services in the development of
infrastructure projects which includes manufacturing, construction, product development, project
aviation etc. It help organisation in achieving advantage through application of this model by
utilising resources in execution of business activities, and also update their employees to make
good interaction with their loyal customers (Masewicz and Vogel, 2014).
Elements of the model
As per Peter Block, there are various elements of stewardship which when constituted
together contribute towards facilitating an orderly conduct within the organisation. In this regard,
the managers of Amerasian can apply this model to ensure adequate coordination and
cooperation among the employees so as to facilitate a sense of cohesion and motivation. The
proposed application of various elements of stewardship model in context of Amerasian is given
below:-

Core mission: This comprise of the products and services offered by entity. Also this
gives knowledge about the customers of company and the unique value added for consumers
(Caldwell and et. al., 2008). In this regard, Amerasian is a global organisation which provides a
wide range of services associated with project development ad financing, construction, aviation,
international trading etc. The major customer segment of this organisation is large scale private
companies and governmental agencies. The biggest USP of this organisation is its pool of
motivated, purpose oriented and energetic professionals who make use of the capabilities of the
organisation to distinguish it from customers.
Financial accountability: Every organisation has to work in a manner that ensures
orderly conduct and desirable performance in terms of sales and profits. Here, superiors possess
the rights as well as obligation to describe and specify the required outcomes to each employee
so as to ensure completion of tasks within a timely manner. This organisation claims a strong
presence within international marketplace owing to its high quality services and exceptional
customer service.
Structures and constraints: This element strives to indicate that the stewardship contract
constitutes selection of a basic structure which can effectively match the mission, vision, task
and business environment (Russell and Gregory Stone, 2002). In this regard, the basic role of
managers of Amerasian is to make sure that the organisational structure is aligned with the needs
and requirements of task, mission and environment of this company.
Governance strategy: Stewardship strives to take a specific stance in support of
partnership and empowerment. In this regard, it is largely required that managers of Amerasian
adopt an effective and efficient corporate governance strategy which possesses the capability to
ensure the achievement of organisational goals and objectives.
Focusing attention: This comprises of two aspects, namely, identification of tough
challenges as well as selecting where to begin from. In this regard, it is essential that Amerasian
strives to gain knowledge of the challenges faced by company so as to tackle with these
effectively and ensure an orderly conduct.
Benefits
Stewardship offers an excellent exciting opportunity to businesses such as Amerasian to
take initiatives in order to reorder and reshape themselves in a positive manner. It strives at
providing personal responsibility as well as empowerment for the place where work is carried

out and the manner in which operations are carried out (Tosi and et. al., 2003). By engaging
employees in the day to day acts and processes, this organisation will be successful in gaining
the trust of workforce so as to motivate them to perform in an effective and efficient manner by
fully utilising their potential.
Challenges
It becomes challenging for every business such as Amerasian to implement new changes
in their structure according to the needs and requirements of employees and customers. Along
with this, the advantages received by business organisation is also more, yet the biggest
constraint is employees resistance which came during execution. As the employees are main
asset of company whose contribution decides the results and execution of project. Thus, it is
important for the employees to motivate their employees through applying motivational theories
such as Maslow theory (Hernandez, 2008).
CONCLUSION
It has been summarised from the above project report that stewardship is an important concept
which need to be consider by the management of an organisation as such concept help in
increasing involvement of employees in daily business operations for the achievement of
organisational goals and objectives. Furthermore, it also been observed that there are different
aspects of stewardship which assist an organisation to adopt such approach throughout the
organisational premises.
