Executive Summary
The study is focused towards the understanding of strategic management as a career
option considering the various criteria that needs to be fulfilled as part of the post of strategic
management. The study will move forward through the consideration of the various scenarios
that would form parts of the tasks that are to be completed. Five separate tasks are considered for
essential analysis of the subject matter.

Background
The report is concerning the career move to an aspect of strategic management in an
organization. The concerned person has spent a significant time of his career as a senior manager
and has registered with a recruitment agency called the Harris Hall. The agency is to support the
person to get a higher ranking post in a given reputable organization.
Aims and objectives
The aim is to develop essential standards of performance that can help in the achievement
of goals that can ultimately lead to the achievement of the job position. The aim is to achieve the
given target within effective timeframes.
Firstly, the objective is to achieve the significant competencies that are related to the job
positions.
Secondly, there is a need to complete the tasks that are associated with the completion of
the target goals that can help to improve the prospects for getting the job in the sphere of
strategic organizational management.
Thirdly, an important objective is to optimize the performance levels for improving the
prospects of both securing the job position as well as performance for the organization after
selection.
Scope
The report cover all the significant areas of strategic organizational management.
Organizational management is multi-functional in nature and the various significant aspects that

are related to the management need to be explored in order to get comprehensive understanding
of the same. The report is focused towards evaluating and analyzing the same further.

Organization tasks related to the ‘Preparation for Application and Interviews’ demands
an analysis of the knowledge, efficiency and skills required for leadership as well as strategic
management.
Strategic management is the instrument used to realize the mission vision as well as goals
of an organization. According to the Bergh et al (2016), strategic management denotes a specific
branch of management which emphasizes on the formation of strategic vision, determine short
term and long-term objectives. The term ‘strategic leadership’ is intertwined with the subject of
‘strategic management’. ‘Strategic leadership’ can be considered as one of the potentialities of a
manager or leader, which are required to manage and train a vast workforce. The purpose of
‘strategic leadership’, is to enhance the productivity of the employees, without compromising on
the part of the employee motivation. Strategic leadership ensures the implementation of strategic
management.
The creation as well as achievement of organisational mission, vision and innovative
strategies depends largely on the knowledge, efficiency and skills of strategic management as
well as leadership. One of the skills required for the creation as well as implementation of
innovative strategies and achievement of organisational goals, is, delegation. For the purpose of
formulating effective strategies of delegation, the leader involved in conducting strategic
management should be well aware of what and when, how to delegate. Carter and Greer (2013),
consider that, caring about effective communication and, building up professionally effective

relationship, connecting with each and every individual subordinate, are also considered to be
essential skill in case of in leadership as well as strategic management. According to the opinion
of Rothaermel (2013), the capability to find out and leverage the distinguished and diverse
talents, can be considered one of the most crucial skills accelerates the process of strategic
management and enables leaders to contribute more in the achievement of the mission, vision
and goals of an organization.
For the purpose of identification of all the factors contributing to the achievement of the
vision of an organization, first leader should have a clear idea about both the terms- ‘vision’ and
‘strategy’.
As per the definition of Schoemaker Krupp and Howland (2013), vision is considered to be
a credible, realistic and also an attractive future of an organization. In most of the cases vision
defines all the future objectives of an organization or the goals of an organization, which are yet
to be achieved. For example, strengthening the grip on the target market, creating value both for
the organization and its employees, establishing standard as well as the quality or excellence;
Hence, vision and strategy for an organization indicates to the greater goals of the organization
and development of organizational framework to achieve them.
One of the most vital factors that contribute to the achievement of organisational vision and
strategy, is the ability of the managers or leaders to learn constantly. This is because, constant
upgradation in terms of technical skill and innovative strategies are essential to achieve
organizational vision. Along with this, qualities like critical problem solving, the patience, agility
as well as prudency to solve critical problems; also pave the way for the realization of the vision

of an organization. According to Covin and Slevin (2017), the power of retaining self-confidence
and generating positive thoughts and motivation among the employees of all ranks are also
considered to be other essential factors to accelerate the process of actualizing the vision of an
organization.
For the purpose of reviewing leadership as well as management theories first, one should
look at the ‘Contingency’ and ‘Situational’ theories of leadership. Both of the emphasizes on the
ability of the leader to identify the different needs of different employees as well as situations
and also the ability to apply different leadership styles and strategies depending on the different
needs identified. Hence, both the theories can be applied in case of problem solving and
decision-making situations. This is because, problem solving and managing risks, as well as
prudent decision making; will be possible only if, the leader or manager is able to determine
appropriate leadership style and strategies depending on the different requirements of different
scenarios. Again, there are transformational and transactional theories of leadership. The former,
believes in promoting the vision which is consistent. Transformational leaders, provide guidance
to their followers by making them realize their own value and boosting to be enthusiaststic and to
take challenges. Hence, transformational leadership can be applicable while conducting strategic
management, as the employee motivation in the transformational management is a good strategy
to inspire employees to work harder, enhance the productivity as well as performance and earn
more appreciation. In other words, transformational theory along with behavioral theory of
leadership will be helpful to assist and motivate the employees of all ranks to cope with
organizational changes or transformation without compromising productivity (House et al.
2013).

and skills.
Leadership is one of the most important and essential elements of any forms of business.
Leadership is one of the most important part of the business organization as because the presence
of a proper and effective leadership is the only possible way to guarantee the presence of smooth
and unpatrolled operations of the business. The better the qualities of leadership, the better will
be the chance of the organization to gain success in the business. I have been working in a
Multinational Organization for the last 5 years and have been a loyal employee of the business
for the last few years. As an employee of the Corporation I have been through a lots of ups and
downs in my professional life and have experienced a number of different things in my 5 years
of professional life. As said earlier, I must say that leadership holds an immense importance to
the organization. The presence of an effective leadership has been helpful for me to develop
myself as a professional to survive in the industry.
My professional performance as well as my personal behaviour have been instrumental
for my success in the organization. The last year I have been selected as one of the assistant
managers in the HRM department. The selection of me as the assistant manager has been mainly
due to my skills and my leadership abilities. The presence of the leadership skills in me helps me
to tackle each and every problems with ease. The HRM manager relies on me to complete a
number of tasks and has kept faith on my leadership skills. Apart from this my ability to tackle
different workplace conflicts provides me with an added advantage to ensure success in the
business workplace and also develop my professional career in a proper and effective manner.

 Set objectives to meet your personal development needs in the context of strategic
organisational needs
As said earlier my performance in the organization has been exceptional for the last few
years. The exceptional performance has helped me to gain recognition as well as promotion to
the post of the assistant HRM manager in the business enterprise. Though my personal and
professional skills have been exceptional, I still need to go through some drills and exceptional
performances that can help me to overcome the drawbacks and also help me to develop my inner
skills. These drawbacks can be addressed only through the means of the development of a
detailed strategic planning to address the personal development goals. The personal development
goals of the organization must be addressed in a proper and effective manner to ensure my
professional success. First of all I need to assess my strengths and weakness in order to gain an
insight into my skills and capabilities as well as identify the different kinds of the weaknesses.

My short term planning needs to ensure the best of the organization. It is important for me to
have a scientific and systematic planning which is able to meet all my professional needs as well
as the needs of the organization that I currently work for. The first and foremost task that needs
to be completed by me is the practical knowledge of HRM. The better I get the practical
knowledge of HRM, the better is the chance for me to provide better leadership to the employees
of the organization and help out the senior management in case of recruitment and the retention
of the employees of the business organization. I must take the help of the senior HRM of the
organization to gain more experience from practical examples. My relation with the senior
management of Human Resources can come in hand in such a case. It will also be better for me
to attend a professional certification course in HRM which will help me to gain immense
knowledge on the same. The professional certification course can also help me to gain a
competitive advantage in the organization as well as the business market to ensure professional
success. The competitive advantage of the organization will help me to gain immense success

Factors that impact organizational vision
Organizational vision is an important aspect that is connected with strategic
organizational management. The vision for an organization refers to the ultimate goal that can
also be aligned with the motto for the operation of any organization. Creation of organizational
vision is important as it leads to the creation of an effective framework for organizational
growth. The vision also create a standard operational outlook for any organization. There are
various factors that impact the creation of organizational vision.
Firstly an important factor is environment of operation. This is because the environment
of operation of any organization can essentially determine the exact values that the enterprise
would need to focus on for achieving growth.
Secondly, the size of the organization is an important factor that can affect the vision of
the organization.
Thirdly, the value system of the higher management helps in the formation of vision of
any organization.
Fourthly, the past situation of the organization can affect the formation of its future
vision. Mostly this relates to the positive evolution of the company.

The various approaches towards developing organizational vision are important to
determine the growth oriented outlooks of the organizations. Environmental analysis becomes
very important towards the creation of vision as it creates an environment of strong consideration
of the resources and competitive factors. The past of the organization helps to create an effective
environment for creating a strong future vision through which the past weaknesses can be
overcome. This is an approach that helps to understand the past while laying an important
foundation for the future. The value system of the higher management is an important approach
as it considers the internal factors that are important in determining the effectiveness of the
organizational performance. Organizational culture is important in creating vision as it considers
all the important factors that can improve the cultural outlook of the organization as well as the
effectiveness of the vision. The first and foremost task that needs to be completed by me is the
practical knowledge of HRM. I will achieve this by understanding the concepts related to HR
and reviewing the same with the best practices.
Key factors impacting the communication of vision
The organizational vision needs to be communicated to the various stakeholders in order
to improve the level of understanding in relation to the vision among the various stakeholders of
the organization. One of the most important factor is relevance. The vision need to be relevant in
order to be communicated effectively communicated to the stakeholders. Secondly, an important
aspect is brevity. Organizational vision needs to be brief to ensure equal understanding among all

the essential stakeholders. Thirdly, an important factor is the communication tools that are to be
used. Effective communication tools help to communicate effectively with all the stakeholders.

Assessment of the benefits of review tool
Review is an important tool to assess the personal capabilities as well as collective or
organizational capabilities. The review tool help to assess the kind of performance that a person
has provided in view of a given organizational setting. The benefit of the review tool is that it
helps to form a strong notion about the individual or the organization. This in turn helps to assess
the personal or organizational capabilities in view of their effectiveness towards achieving the
most important goals. The most important time to use this tool is after a set period for which the
performance is monitored. This period can be of three to six months depending on the individual
or organizational understanding. This period can be used to gather performance data. The
performance data can then be utilized to understand whether or not the value of performance has
been at par with the required standards. Once the value of the performance is determined and
assessed in terms of the required standards strategies can be created. Strategies created in this
manner can be effective towards achieving significant future goals for the organization. Usage of
the review tool helps to form strong and required strategies. For example- if the performance
standards of the individual or organization has not been at par with the required standards, more
effective and stricter strategies can be formed. If the organization or individual is working at par
with the required standards then emphasis would need to be on sustaining the value of growth.
Identification of the sources of information
The sources of information that are required for the review progress are the annual or
half-yearly reports, the required organizational standards, the value proposition, the performance

effectiveness and other important sources. The reports help to gain comprehensive understanding
of the specific areas of weaknesses and strengths. The organizational standards help to
understand the factors of performances that dominate the market. The sources of information like
value propositions help to gain stronger understandings of the values that are required in a given
situation.

Discussion report for review of self-progress against set outcomes
The progress would be determined through essential consideration of all the important
achievement points that I have set before me for achieving the ultimate goal of getting selected
for the given position. The certificate course would help me to quantify my ability in the form of
marks that I would receive. Hence, it would help me to great extents to understand my
capabilities.
Conclusion and Recommendations
In conclusion, it can be said that the following tasks would help me to achieve the
position of strategic organizational manager. It is important to understand the HR frameworks to
create an effective way for performance management. The various aspects related to
organizational strategic management need to be known. The recommendations that can be made
are in regards to the usage of more evaluation tools to get various perspectives connected with
the growth and development of the organization and the individual. There is a strong need to
understand the various roles that need to be played in order to achieve the strong position in
strategic organizational management.
