3. Activities
Part 1. Ethical responsibilities
A: Imagine you are working as an aged care support worker for an individual who receives
support in their home. You spend a lot of time at the house and have developed great
rapport with the whole family; they treat you like part of the family.
On one occasion, the family try to give you a gift.
Complete the table:
What is the
ethical dilemma
presented in this
scenario?
(50-100 words)
How should you
respond?
(50-100 words)
If you are
unsure of the
scope and
nature of your
own ethical
responsibilities
and work role,
what should
you do?
(50-100 words)
If you want to access
some information
about how to handle
an ethical situation
such as this, what can
you do?
(50-100 words)
The ethical
dilemma presented
in this scenario is
that one should
know his limits and
ground rules
though they treat
him as a part of his
family for
accepting the gift
being given by
them. He should
maintain his rights
and limits with the
family. Except from
this there should
also arise a
question whether
he should take the
gift or not.
Being a aged care
support worker for
an in dividual who
receives support in
their home I should
respond in a way
that my work is also
done and I should
remain in my limits.
Being a part of the
family if I don’t take
the gift it won’t
seemed to be
right .they can take
it in other sense
where if thinking of
that I should not
take the gift is
wrong after all they r
presenting me the
gift.
If I am unsure of
the scope and
nature of my
own ethical
responsibilities I
will try to gain
information from
my surrounding
or from my
parents or any
elder person
those who are
more
experienced
than me.I will try
my best to use
my ability to
recognize,
interpret and act
upon multiple
principles and
values according
to the standards
within a given
field or context
being in my
limits and
ground areas.
If I want to access some
information about how to
handle such situations in
these case I will try to
take some advices from
elders persons who are
more experienced than
me or have been in these
field from many years
though should know this
situation better than me
and how to handle it or
then now a days we have
got the advantage of
internet it give us many
beautiful ideas to
overcome this situation.

C: Imagine that the family ask you to do some extra weekend cleaning or other support
work for cash:
o what is the potential conflict of interest?
o what action should you take? (50-100 words)
o List and describe what your professional boundaries are within this situation?
1. What is the potential conflict of interest?
The potential conflict of interest is that there should be an interest present in doing the
work that the family has ask you to do some extra weekend cleaning or other support
work for cash. Potential conflict of interest can also cause an employee like me to act
out of interest and that isn’t good for the employee
2. What action should you take? (50-100 words)
Well some actions can be taken here as I am working with them and being a part of the
family they had made me its my responsibilities that I should not behave rudely or in a way
that may harm the emotions of the person. I should say yes for what they have asked to
show my trust and working nature with them. By this one can come more close to the
family with those.
3. List and describe what your professional boundaries are within this situation?
Professional boundaries of mine within this situation are that:
1. Being working with that aged group for many days they should also listen to me and
my choices
2. As there may be some financial condition with them so they have asked me to stay
on the weekend and work for some extra cash.
3. Well now people also runs behind cash so working on the weekend may earn you

Part 2.
As a care support worker in aged care and home and community, your clients may be
elderly or you may be called upon to provide care support for younger people with a
disability. You will also be working with people from diverse cultures and ethnicities, and
you will undoubtedly come across some beliefs or behaviours that are different to yours.
Read the scenario and then answer the question:
A: There are two competing value systems in this scenario: the family value academia very
highly and place this at the top of Ji-yoon’s agenda; as her support worker, you value her
individual plan and the associated activities, such as her engagement in physiotherapy and
speech therapy.
Identify and briefly describe one (1) technique you could use to solve this problem by
reflecting on your own vaules. (50-100 words)
Being a worker and a student also, I can use one technique to solve this problem is that
being a worker myself its hard to get time for both the works and there may be some
others works to do to avoid these one should main one time table for doing these that is
very good for work. It helps us to do the things in a more correct way and in very specified
sequence and I am maintaining this time table for many years and this is very helpful to us.
B: How can you ensure your own personal values and attitudes do not impact on your work,
and you engage in non-judgemental practice when supporting people with different ideas
and cultures to your own? (50-100 words)
Firstly ,In working one always come up with his own idea rather than listening to others that
is there personal values and attitudes are showing in that but these should not impact in
our work because you are working with some old peoples in an aged group. They always
come up with their own idea in these place one should be non judgemental and accept
people with whom we disagree. Atleast if anything goes wrong we wont be blamed for it.
People mostly do not accept other ideas or cultures they tried to give their own its human
nature.

Ji-yoon is a university student who has multiple sclerosis. Her parents believe students should
study very hard, for many hours a day. As Ji-yoon’s support worker, you see a potential difficulty
with this as after so much study, Ji-yoon has no time for the activities in her support plan. You
wish to suggest that on top of her study hours, she does only one more hour of homework per
day.
