Introduction
Health care management is one of the most complicated areas for management. This is
because of the fact that there are a large number of activities takes place at the same time. There
are number of customers availing the service. On the other hand the customers are usually the
patients who are in the dire need for being taken care of. Thus, if there are some problems in the
supply chain management then it can turn out to be a major problem for the patients. For an
instance, if the catering service of the hospital is poor then, the patients will not be able to get
their food on the right time (Porter and Heppelmann 2015). This will indeed create a very
harmful impact on the health of the patients. The Mayfield Hospital is one of the private
hospitals of UK. Information flows and physical flows both are parts of the SCM or the supply
chaon management. In order to be successful the organizations must make sure that they are
using both these two methods. This is a privately run hospital and is dedicated towards providing
day care services along with some surgery facilities to the patients (Duan et al. 2016). As it is a
privately owned and run hospital it is even more essential for the institution to maintain its
functions in a proper organized way. One of the most important areas of the supply Chain
management is to make sure that the quality is being maintained properly.
However, it has been seen that from the past years, there are some or the other kinds of
problems existing in the logistics and supply chain management of the organization (Psomasn
and Jaca 2016). It is for this reason that the organization must take some measures that will help
it deal with the issues. Some of the important issues that the hospital must be dealing with are the
cleanliness and the other services that are crucial to the health of the patients (Fahimnia, Sarkis
and Davarzani 2015). This assignment has dealt with two of the core areas like the New product/
service development and process and Managing quality. There are some issues identified with

the neatness and the cleanliness of the organization. Apart from this, there are also some
problems in the catering department of the organization.
Critical review of relevant Operation, Logistics and Supply Chain Management theories
There are usually a lot of departments working in the hospital. Thus, it is a huge
responsibility on the part of the hospital management to make sure that they are being able to
take care of each and every department. Like any other organization is important for a hospital to
make sure that they are concentrating over their supply chain and logistics services (Fahimnia,
Sarkis and Davarzani 2015). It is really one of the major issues of concern of the hospital is not
able to keep their rooms and other department clean. This is evident of the fact that there are
some problems in the operating department.
As a result of this they are not able to supervise the working of the cleaning circle of the
hospital properly. As there are issues with the house keeping of the hospitals, the hospital
authority must try to invest in their logistics and supply chain management. This will ensure that
they are taking proper care of the inbound and the outbound processes. For an instance, there are
problems identified with the food processing and the cleaning services of the hospital. In other
words there are having been complaints from the potential customers that they are dissatisfied
with the cleanliness.

This problem that the hospital is going through can be solved through the usage of the Porter’s
Value Chain Model.
Managing quality
Inbound Logistics- It can be possible that the hospital is not concerned about the raw material or
the products that they are using for the purpose of the cleaning. As there are a large number of
operations that take place in a hospital on a day to day basis, cleaning are one of the most
important activities that must take place. The hospital has to pay more importance on the kinds
of inputs materials that are going into the manufacturing department of the organization (Hugos
2018). There can be some issues in the manufacturing machines. As a result of this there can be
a low quality in the cleaning stuffs that are used for the purpose of cleaning (van Schoten et al.
2016). Thus, this needs to be taken into proper account so that the manufacturing units can
become much more efficient and work properly.
