INTRODUCTION
Sustainability is an ability to manage the depletion of the natural resources. Sustainable
management is created to define the application of the sustainable practices in the business,
society, environment, agriculture and personal life by managing them in a way that gives benefit
to the current and future generations. Responsible management refers to the seeking the balance
interest of the people, companies, environment for the benefit of current and future generations
(Responsible and Sustainable Management Practices in Developing and Developed Business
Environments, 2021). TUI group is an Anglo- German multinational travel and tourism company
founded in 1923. Its headquarters are in Hanover and Germany. It is the largest tourism and
travel company in the world. The aim of this report is to understand the key concepts and the
sustainable theory affects the tourism business, to know the process of sustainable and
responsible management in the operations in the TUI group and to understand the best practices
and opportunity to appraise the tourism development. Sustainable management is also necessary
for the tourism industry as through the tourism activity that gave low impact on the environment
and the local culture and helps the future and current generation for employment for the local
people.
Literature Review
Key concepts, principles and theory in relation to sustainable and responsible management to
tourism business.
According to the view of Nawaz, and Koç, (2018), Sustainable management is important
for every organisation, to minimise the impact of their operations on the environment so that
future generation also get benefits from the environment. Travel and Tourism Company has also
adapted the sustainable and responsible management in the operations so that it will not harm the
environment. However as per Nawaz and Koc,(2018) further explains that Sustainable
management is important in the tourism sector so that the company can avoid the exhausting the
resources whether it can be economical, environmental or cultural. From sustainability tourism
focuses to respect the culture of the environment and people. As world travel and Tourism
Company contributes 10 percent of its global GDP it is important for the tourism organisation to
adopt the sustainability in the operations. Having in the industry where tourist will travel to the
different places in different countries where culture is different for that the sustainability is

important. It helps to prevent the degradation of the environment and emphasis on protecting the
environment. Sustainability helps to prevent the over exploitation of the resources.
Further Barral, (2018) explains that, key principles of the sustainability management are
conservation of the ecosystem is to protect or conserve the earth through make the durable
ecological system. Sustainable development of the society where the society depends on the
health environment, quality life getting available to the society. The knowledge and skills to
carte the earth should be developed by the company to their employees so that they can conserve
the human resources. Reducing the over consumption and waste avoids the costs of long term
environmental damage and contributes towards the quality of tourism. Tourism development is
integrated into strategic planning towards local and national which impact to the environmental
assessment by increases the long term viability of tourism. However having the sustainability in
the company effects to the environment by reducing the waste and reducing the impact on the
environment and protects the nature.
Martinez, Peattie, and Vazquez-Brust, (2021) , states that the theory of sustainability is a
combination of the environmentally sound, economically feasible and socially equitable. To
achieve the effective sustainability in the organization has to balance between economic, social
and environmental factors in equal harmony. Environmental sound environmental sustainability
means to live with the natural resources. Using of the environmental resources such as fuels,
materials, land, water in an optimum manner or at a sustainable rate. To be the environmental
sustainability in the tourism industry TUI has to renovate the existing buildings, management
plan is set for monitoring all the activities which affects the environment and implement the plan
in a way which not affects the environment like monitoring the Co2 emissions, gas, water and
energy and use of renewable energy in the operation and transforms the non renewable into
renewable energy. Company has to work with the reduce reuse and recycle approach in their
operations. TUI can encourages use of public transport that helps to reduce the consumption of
fuel. Alternative transport like through bicycle, on foot and by the scooter is very fashionable.
In reference to, Espinosa, and Walker, (2017), while the Social equitable Social
sustainability is an ability of the society to regularly achieve good social well being. Achieving
the sustainability ensures that well being of the society of the country, community, and in
organization is maintain in the long run. For the tourist sector deciding the destinations for the
travels to keep in mind to all the age groups or residents is a challenging task. Tourism sector has
