Case Study of ThinkTank: System Management_1
Introduction
Networking is one of the major areas that need a lot of consideration when a company is
setting all its objectives at the time they are preparing the business plan. Ideally, for one to
understand this, it is appropriate for one to know the appropriate network model to install in the
company in all aspects [1]. Ideally, to understand the network type will help an individual to be
able to know if the network is scalable and flexible which will in turn help to enhance future
extensions. Computer networks have been on the edge as the major primary need for any
organization.
The success of the company in terms of the communication will be measured by the type
of network they may be using. This has really boosted many organization. Networking is the
process through which there is the interconnection of network devices such as hubs, PCs,
Printers, Scanners and smartphones among others that can share, exchange files and much more
be able to communicate with each other [2]. Notably, in the real world, it is fundamental for one
to design a network with some consideration such as performing an analysis on the circumstance
and the situation before they come up with the specifications and the company objectives.
The report will be focusing on the analysis of all the requirements of the company case
study of ThinkTank. This case has been extended by an identification of the different servers
which are needed and their functions in the network. In this case, the scenario has to be
explained by use of screenshots which are as a results or technical configuration of the servers.
Ideally, by having a good understanding of how configurations are done then it will be easy for
ThinkTank to address their issues in full.

ThinkTank Case Study
Ideally, in this case, the case study has majored on a small enterprise that is based
in Sydney. ThinkTank has grown rapidly over the years and thus increasing the number
of workstations from ten up to 5o workstations currently. The company is having a major
plan of expanding and opening up new branches in Melbourne which will directly
communicate and connect from the headquarters which is in Sydney. In this case, there
is a possibility of hiring many people so that the new branch will have employees who
will fill the positions similar to those of the people in headquarter.
In this concept, the company has a task of purchasing the new devices that are required in
the new branch. The company has an objective of achieving the centralized data management
locales, authorization and much more authenticate. Moreover, ThinkTank will be needed to have
various and separate folders where all the staff will be able to access the information they need
without any limitations. In addition, the department of sales will also have the same separate
folders which will be used in carrying out their respective activities. The managers will have the
right to access the entire data in the given folders.
In the current network setup, ThinkTank information or data is just stored in two
computers which are stored as a workgroup Pcs. This data can only be accessed by only twenty-
eight employees from the existing departments. These employees are the three senior managers,
twenty departments of sales staff and the other five in finance totalling up to Twenty-Eight
employees. The Department of Information Technology has been faced with a lot of challenges
as the assigning of IP address is done manually and thus, in this case, there may exist some
duplication of the same and thus disrupting the services of the network due to issuing of the same
IP address in two different machines. Duplication of IP addresses may be a problem when

managing and sharing the resources among the connected devices. The current IT infrastructure
in ThinkTank was poorly designed and thus it has no features such as scalability and flexibility,
hence this may make it difficult for one to add network devices in the network. The rate at which
the company is growing has clearly shown that there will be a need for them to have a new
design of the new IT infrastructure. Due to its rapid growth, the company has an objective of
restructuring the existing IT infrastructure so that they can be able to enable the resources in
central management, make sure that there is effective communication and make sure that there is
a data centre created implemented in Sydney which is the headquarter. If the new IT
infrastructure of ThinkTank is put in place, this will help them in being able to meet the goals set
by the enterprise by improving the business processes and communication.
There are so many issues which are in many ways experienced by the enterprise, some of
them will need them to always remember their machine IP addresses so that they can be able to
access it. This is a very compromising issue, in that we are all humans and thus we are prone to
forgetting becoming an issue for one to access the information held by the computer. In this case,
the company is in a position of willing to achieve fault tolerance.
Requirement Analysis
There are a few factors that should be tended to when setting up the new system
foundation. This is significant in tending to the system the board and organization challenges in
the present system condition [3]. Initially, it is critical to get ready for your system. This includes
understanding the need and the administrations that the system will give including observing and
the executive’s capacities. Understanding the truth of ThinkTank arrange circumstance will
empower simple arranging and usage.

Adaptability or scalability. The system ought to have the option to help simplify the
development of the system by including more gadgets and clients the system without influencing
the ordinary system activities [4]. Moreover, the organization needs to grow its administrations
to different urban areas, for example, Sydney and Melbourne need to guarantee that the system
ought to have the option to suit the necessities of the normal branches without having to set up
another server farm [5].
Security: Network security is a significant viewpoint to any organization. Research
organization expects that the new system foundation ought to be capable guarantee the security
of the system basic assets, for example, information and have methodologies for relieving
dangers and fiasco recuperation procedures [6]. There is have to actualize organize safety efforts
to ensure the uprightness and ease of use of the organization information and system. It
incorporates programming and equipment advances. Having successful system security
components enables better administration of access to organize assets [7]. There are a few
security instruments that should be executed in the system; they are talked about underneath.
Identification of Server Roles and Technologies
Servers are some of the machines that are usually dedicated to processing speeds which
are superior, they also carry out different functions as they are assigned. The objectives of
ThinkTank can be achieved by installing some of the specific servers as it is indicated in the case
study. There is a need for one to install a Web Server, the DHCP, File and the printer server for
various reasons [8]. The mentioned servers usually play major roles in making the
communication success in the environment.

Web Server is a server that will help the company to be able to host their website using
their own server. In this case, there will be a need for one to install a web server that will deliver
services and the contents needed by the end users across and over the internet [9]. This is simply
a physical server that usually has software that needs one to ensure and enable the Hypertext
Transmission Protocol communications.
Print Server: this server is in charge of making sure all the documents in the queue are
printed on the network. This is on the grounds that the printer alone can't most likely handle the
tremendous measure of print demand from the various representatives [10]. Thusly, there is a
need a devoted server that will almost certainly oversee and organize the print demand.
File server: this is a committed server that is the essential job of offering shared plate
access, for example, share records that can be accessed by the approved clients over the system.
It is basically intended to encourage capacity and recovery of records over the system.
Dynamic Host Control Protocol Server. The DHCP server is needed when addressing the
problem the company has been facing when allocating the IP addresses manually. This type of
server by the name DHCP has been used in assigning the IP addresses automatically to all the
devices connected to the network and thus helping the end users not to memorize their IP
addresses [11]. There are other types of servers that together with the other servers such as the
Application Server, Database Server, Mail server and the proxy server.
Configuration Process of Network
Ideally, in setting up the system, the accompanying prerequisites should be considered:
the organization space or domain is thinktank.com, and the system will be made as a functioning
index area which has a root area. The system ought to guarantee concentrated client validation.
