Abstract
The investigation aims at evaluating the tourist motivational factors that influence them to visit
Taipei’s tourist attraction sites. The study involved 50 tourist respondents traveling to Taipei on
29th August 2018. The findings illustrated that most individuals visited Taipei for its cultural
uniqueness and attractive scenery. Of all the towns in Taiwan Taipei is best-equipped and
internationalized with a public transportation system that is fully developed (an indication of
urban tourism). The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) company of Taipei tries to escalate the number
of incoming tourists through the provision of improved traveling experience and innovation of
various marketing approaches that increase tourism attraction in the area (Chang, and Lai 2009).
However, there is a need for more understanding of the culture at Taipei to increase the
percentage of outbound tourists in the area. The study was conducted to provide enlightenment
on the cultural status at Taipei as well as the destination and advanced infrastructure of the place
as sources of tourists’ motivation to visit the city (Holloway, and Taylor 2013).

Introduction
Tourism is thought to be one of the largest sectors in the economy of the world. However,
tourist activities can bring both negative and positive advantages. Tourism increases the
commercial standards of most countries, but it can also result in various negative environmental
impacts such as air pollution due to the increase in the rate of transportations releasing
exhaustive gases to the surrounding (Xu et al. 2016). Therefore, Taipei’s MRT has a
responsibility of ensuring a sustainable environment for both the locals and the foreigners who
visit. It does so by increasing the level of infrastructure in the town to draw more tourists to visit
and learn their culture (Chang, and Lai 2009).
Background
Urban Tourism
Urban tourism arose as a distinct and significant and distinct field in the 1990s. It is
identified as the most significant aspect of tourism. It is the current development that is adopted
by capitals to become more of consumption areas instead of being productive places (Horng et
al. 2014). Urbanized tourism is associated with a variety of services present in their tourist
activity assortment. The facilities include sports stadiums, casinos, festival markets, relaxation
areas, museums and many other fun places (McKercher 2008).
Taipei
Of all the towns present in Taiwan, Taipei is the city that is well internationalized and
classified as the preeminent island with sightseeing sceneries as per the 2004 yearly investigation
report on Trends, Visitors and Expenditure in Taiwan. To gain more tourists in Taiwan, the
Department of communication and transportation recommended the challenge 2008 State

Improvement strategy together with the amplifying Visitor Arrivals Program of 2002 to 2007 to
advance tourism in the nation (Horng et al. 2014). The plans targeted at the establishment of the
secondary and main tourist source marketplaces and optimizing them for use with the aim of
promoting Taiwan’s present image of tourism to other countries. The plan focused on attracting
worldwide tourists to Taiwan (Horng et al. 2013). Therefore, Taipei works tirelessly towards the
provision of quality services to the tourist through the maintenance of a sustainable tourist
activity environment.
Destination information
The destination is usually a geographical location that is described at several stages of
combination such as country, village or town levels. In Taipei, there are various types of
destinations which comprise the temple, Museum, historic landmark, tourist village, shopping,
cultural attraction, natural site, and transportation. The image of the destination is a significant
factor as it assists the visitors to to determine the type of destination to take (Bolan, and Williams
2008). Therefore, the targets can only thrive in attaining more tourists if it is more appealing to
the visitors also when it is accessible. Attraction is observed as a basis of tourism and as the
reason why visitors travel to a given destination and participate in certain activities (Holloway,
and Taylor 2013).
Urban tourism in destination
Taipei’s accessibility and infrastructure have made it a prevalent point for individuals
seeking the exotic experience in the Far East regions. The town has ensured formation of high
quality public transportation system that transfers the tourists to various attractions including
those out of the city comfortably (Holloway, and Taylor 2013). It has well established cultural
background and heritage that is both Chinese and westernized, this cultural uniqueness has been

advanced to meet the interests of most visitors coming from different parts of the world. To
make its culture more attractive the city has various eye-catching showcasing centers that cast
several shows that attract audience. The Taipei Eye is an example of traditional theater that
involves Japanese, Chinese and English performances (Horng et al. 2013). The town has offers
an interesting artistic experience that attracts visitors from various regions, the Mountain Theater
of U Theatre, is an example of a place in Taipei that is visited for its art showcases. The place is
also prominent for its galleries such as the National Palace Museum as well as sanctuaries like
the Lungshan temple.
Taipei also has advanced tourist markets, particularly the night marketplaces like the
Raohe, Shilin and Tonghua markets. The marketplaces have spicy food varieties that are
affordable, the atmosphere in such places is also captivating with attractive shopping centers
such as the Taipei 101 Mall. The villages at Taipei have also been established to attain the
tourist’s satisfaction, communities such as Jiufen is known for its unique and quality food
varieties and beautiful surrounding (Chang, and Hui Chiang 2009).
Taipei is a large town that has various features for instance the MRT sceneries with
improved transportation that allows easy accessibility to nature. However, the tourist activities
have positive and negative impacts this calls for the need of making Taipei an area of less
negative implications by ensuring environmental sustainability Kim (2014). Due to nature’s
abundance in the metro region it is likely to associate eco-tourism and urban attractions easily
due to improved tourism in the place. Previous studies focus on the status of tourism in Taipei
together with the need for urban tourism in the area. However, this investigation was conducted
to provide enlightenment on the cultural status at Taipei as well as the destination and advanced
