INTRODUCTIONThe hospitality sector is a wide and broad category with in the service industry whichincludes many facilities like foods and drink services, lodging, hotels and motel, tourism andtravelling, transportation, theme parks, casinos, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and many morefacilities. The hotel taken in the report is Travelodge which is a private company in thehospitality and hotel industry throughout the UK. It was founded in 1985 and is headquartered inThame, England, UK. The report will outline the meaning and different types of business in thehospitality industry. Also, it will give a detail of the operational and functional departments ofthe hotels along with the contribution of the hospitality sector for the economy. It will alsohighlight different types of operational roles within the hotel. After accessing the operational roleit will demonstrate the skills required for that roles. Also, the report will discuss about thePESTLE and SWOT analysis of the hotel. At last it will draw the implications of the current andpotential trends of the hospitality sector on the hotel.
LO 1P1 Hospitality industry and different types of business within itThe hospitality industry is the backbone of many customer service company. Thehospitality sector includes all the companies that deals with the providing and satisfying theneeds of the customers. This is a type of industry which provides millions of jobs for all thelevels of people that is from a chef to a marketing director of a chain of restaurants. This isbecause the hospitality industry includes many and large number of different types of industries.These industries or sectors are as follows- Tourism and travel- it consists of a vast sector in the hospitality industry. It deals with theservices relating to the movement of people from one place to another (Knox, 2014). It includesmodes of transportation like airlines, trains, ships, cruises, buses, cabs and any other mode whichis used for travelling. Food and beverages- this comprises the largest segment with in the hospitality sector. It can bein form of a fast food eateries, catering, high- end restaurants, hotels, leisure attractions, etc. Thistype of business in the hospitality sector is the most popular because no one can live withoutfood and when ever people go out for travelling they always look for good quality of food. Accommodation and lodging- lodging means accommodation for a specific period or a place tosleep one or more nights (Al Yousuf, Taylor and Taylor, 2015). From camping and caravangrounds to the luxurious resorts and budget hotels, the accommodation sector is very huge andbroad and includes a wide range of services.Entertainment industry- it is again an important type of business in the hospitality sector.Entertainment is a significant part of the travelling these days. Because people travels to have funand enjoy their trip so entertainment is a crucial part of the hospitality industry. It includessports, gaming, night clubs, bars, cruise, marinas etc.P2 Operational and functional department of the Travelodge Hotels LimitedFunctional departments are a team or group of employees who have similar skills,knowledge and expertise who are grouped in together in a single department to make sure thatthe hotel or any company runs smoothly and efficiently. For example sales department,marketing department etc. There are many departments in the TraveLodge hotels. Thesedepartments are as follows-
