Task 1-Review an ERD and answer questions
1. The entities in the described ERD for basic library system are publisher, book and author.
2. The attributes associated with the basic library system are ISBN, Book Name, Publisher ID,
Publisher year, Author ID, Author Name, Publisher ID, publisher name, and publisher address.
3. The primary keys that are associated with the three entities are ISBN is the primary key for
Book, Author ID is the primary key of Author and Publisher ID is the primary key in the
publisher entity.
4. The composite attributes are city, state, country, first name, middle name and last name.
5. The relationship that is maintained between the entities of basic library system are one too
many and many too many. The relationship that is maintained between book and author entity is
many too many. On the other hand the relationship between book and publisher is one- many.
6. The enterprise rules that are essential for determining the membership and degree between the
entities of basic library management system is that one author can write several books and the
publisher can sell the product at different location. The rules that are essential for developing an
ERD are as follows:
The publisher ID is an important primary key and attributes that is needed to be included
within the entity of publisher.
The publisher year needs to be motioned within the library system so that it becomes easy
to manage the books within the system.

The Author ID will be linked with each book so that it becomes easy to search for the
books offered by the library system.
The book in the ERD can be associated with one or more than one Author name.
Task 2- Develop a database for a Library information system
1. The library system that is being developed for providing better services towards the
customers. The library will store all the basic records regarding the current loans of
copies of books. Borrowers are being identified with the help of BORROWER# and this
contains all the essential details related to the borrowers and books. In addition to this
while developing the ERD it is being taken care that each customers are allowed to go for
one book at every transaction. Each customers are allowed to borrow books up to a
certain number. After that once the customer returns previous borrowed item they will be
allowed to borrow new ones.
It is important to ensure that some specific attributes are included in the ERD while
making the borrowers list. This includes the ID_Borrowers, Book_ID, IssueDate,
ReturnDate. This are essential attributes that are updated once the book is returned by the
customers.
