INTRODUCTION
The Crime is mainly the illegal activity that is being taken with the individual that can
affect the society and the personal individuality of a human. Criminology deals with all the
aspects and the studies relating to the issues that can be laid out in the criminal activities and
engagement (Felson, and Eckert, 2017). In UK they search out various laws and actions that are
being taken by the police in order to maintain the lawful area in the society and also to provide a
legal security to the individuals. This report will cover and analysis and statistics regarding to the
crimes that are being recorded by the police and a debate regarding to all the relatable issues for
the crime survey for England and Wales.
TASK 1
It is very essential to take the data of the criminals and crime so that the true
understanding can be taken relating to commission of crimes and offences in UK. There are two
methods in which the data can be collected which includes firstly the administrative data that
includes prosecution or the court record, police recorded crimes and the prison data while second
method is the sample survey method which includes the victimization survey, self- reporting,
corruption survey, etc. The former provides the information relating to the reported crimes, that
is, the offences that are being reported to the judicial authorities. Generally, there are two types
of crime which is reported and which are actual. The former is the one which is recorded by the
judicial authorities while the latter is the one which are undetected or not recorded by police or
any of the authority.
It is believed that the crime statistics which are recorded by crime survey and police must
be independent and robust so that the true insight of the crimes is taken. There must be quality of
the data recorded so that the people ad especially, the government can get understanding of every
aspect of crime in order to enact such laws or policies which are beneficial for the curbing the
number of offences in the England (Blagg, and Anthony, 2019).
The crime survey for the England and Wales is very essential to the government as it
helps in taking the true insight and understanding of the crime level. It helps in identifying as to
which crimes are left unreported. The crime surveys include both reported and reported crimes

while the police records contain only the reported one. It helps in giving the valuable information
relating to nature of offence like timing or location of the crime, the features of the offender, any
relationship of the accused and victims and many others. There are many policies being enacted
in order to make sure that there is better understanding of the crimes (Koeber, and Oberwittler,
2019).
The crime in the England and Wales statistical bulletin gives an insight about the detailed
information on various kinds of offences on quarterly basis and by making use of the two sources

which makes their data less reliable in terms of covering every crime. It is very important for the
authorities who collect the criminal statistics to cover every aspect of crime and each of the
offence so that the true culture is provided to everyone about what crimes are committed and
what type of characteristics the offender holds (Deflem, and Silva, 2019). These are carried out
on annual basis. Earlier it included the face to face interview with the victim so that the whole
experience of the victim can be taken into consideration so that the information and data
collected can be made more reliably but due to the pandemic of Covid-19, this has been not
included nowadays in order to carry on the protocols of governments to maintain social
distancing. Hence, it can be said that the crime survey of the England and Wales is the reliable
indicator only for the long term trends. In simple words, it is focused only on the crimes which
are experienced mainly by the general population and this survey remains unaffected by the
changes in the police activity or reporting rates and involves the unreported crimes. So its
reliability is high as it covers both reported and non-reported crimes and that too those offences
which are experience by majority of people.

Police recorded crimes are mainly those which are being investigated subsequently by the
police officer that are been lodged in the police station for further investigations. All such crime
mainly rely on all the important areas and the methods through which they try to implement and

activities being taken and the individuals are being harmed on a daily basis manner.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above essay that crime is used to cover out all the offences and
the issues that are being related to the criminal activities. In order to administer it is important to
provide a proper sample survey through which the administration of data is being made. Crime
survey provides out all the reported crimes that are being recorded by the police and all the
surveys that used to cover by the government. Further it is also concluded that the crime survey
used to cover out a long-term trend through which they used to implicate the unaffected changes
for the activities that are covered in reporting rates.
