INTRODUCTION
Managing and controlling project is crucial part of management field that helps in
deriving important steps for processing. In current era, it has become essential for company to
have effective project management department in order to get competitiveness. The particular
report is based on Travers Solar Project for providing deeper insights about this field. It will
comprise business case and related assumption regarding the mentioned case. The current case
study will involve the NTCP model for project positioning & roles of Mr Balaban in the given
context. It will involve calculations and reflection regarding personal experience.
MAIN BODY
PART A
Project charter of Travers solar project
It is a 465 MegaWatt and $700 million project which is capable to produce power in more
than 10000 homes. It will be built in 3000 acers of land and in Southern Alberta. It is a big
project which will be completed in next 35 years (Interview with Dan Balaban, 2021). This
project is based on the theme of renewable energy development. This project is based on solar
energy and power that will enable power and light with a very low environmental impact. Its
impact towards the natural resources and wildlife would also be minimal. In this project there
would be 1.5 million solar panels which will work in absorbing sun rays and produce electricity.
A single tracking technology will be used in the modules so that they can move in the whole day
and make maximization of energy production. This project along with benefitting environment,
will also enable many job opportunities. Its major stakeholders will include the owners,
employees and the beneficiaries like customer. It will work in the direction of enabling energy
and power generation with a very low impact over the global warming. Likewise, it would not be
wrong to said that the entire project is based on the aspect of green energy future in which go
green is focussed.
Business case:
With regard to Travers solar project, it will enable the consumer a good source of
electricity along with conserving the environment in terms of reduction of pollution. This will
lead to have the fulfilment of concept of go green and renewable source for which Dan Balaban
is working. It will benefit the people by a simultaneous concentration towards environment. Its

cost would be around $700 million. There are no such challenges faced by the project because it
is based on environment studies and protection along with focus towards the renewable source
which is again an emerging sector.
Project positioning in NTCP model
NTCP or Diamond model is one of the major and important model in association with the
judgement of project that whether it bears success elements or not (Ghatak and Garg, 2020). This
is an important project management model which make analysis of the success of project.
In case of Travers solar project, the model would be applied as:
Novalty:
It refers to the newness of product. This means that whether the product is new or not
(Shishodia, Dixit and Verma, 2018). With regard to Travers solar project the product is
electricity production which fall in the category of derivative product. As derivative product
depicts the meaning as new and advanced form of product which is again same in case of
Travers solar project under which electricity is being produced with the use of solar energy
which is again an advanced mode of electricity production because earlier its is being produced
with the use of wind mill.
Technology:
It refers to the aspect of technology which is being employed in the production of product
(Stretton, 2019). With respect to Travers solar project the aspect of technology would be medium
because it is an inculcation of existing technology with some advanced mode of use technology.
This means that the company is already using high technology with electricity production but
with the use of more advanced technology in terms of solar panels and single tracking system it
lies in the category of medium technology category.
Complexity:
It refers to the easiness with respect to the inculcated operations (Das and Khanapuri,
2019). In the current project of Travers solar project, the level of complexity lies under the
category of array projects. This is because the Travers solar project involves the use of wide
range of system which will work together towards the direction of common objective which is to
make production of electricity without putting an adverse impact towards the environment.
Although it involves complex structure but it will lead to have a production of efficient outcome.

Pace:
In terms of pace time duration would be considered. With regard to the project of Travers
solar project the pace of the project is regular. This means that the completion of the project is
not time bound and the major focus is being lied over the completion of project rather than time
aspect. This means that the time element is not critical with regard to the completion of Travers
solar project.
Thus, from the above implication of the Diamond model it would be right to said that the
Travers solar project involves the aspect of new ideas that may have capability to lead the
market. Likewise, it is also being analysed that with the use of medium technology and along
with array project complexity the efficiency of the project with regard to its product would
involves various benefits and the grabbing of opportunities. Since, it involves non time element

favourable factors and aspect except the time aspect so it would also not be wrong to said that the
percentage of risk would be moderate and low.
Role of Mr Balaban along with attributes, challenges and responsibilities with regard to project
Mr Balaban has a major role in association with the project. This is because Mr Balaban
and its thought towards the aspect of renewable source of energy has lead to raise the concept
and project of Travers solar project. As initially Mr Balaban was more focussed towards the oil
and gas industries and was working in the direction of reduction of impact of pollution which is
being caused by this industry. So with this consideration Mr Balaban has started working further
towards the wind energy plant. Being focussed towards the changing trends of technology, Mr
Balaban has moves towards the aspect of solar energy and has invented Travers solar project.
This was the major move of Mr Balaban towards energy consumption and an environment
protection. It would not be wrong to said that it was all Mr Balaban’s thought and thinking that
has lead to rise the evolution of concept of Travers solar project.
In the development of this project Mr Balaban has faced many challenges. Covid-19 and
its impact is one of them. Although it was not impacted majorly but along with covid, facing of
competition along with a rising attractiveness of company towards solar energy has also arises in
terms of challenge. For example, presence of Brookfield, Innergex, BluEarth would be counted
as big competitor that may affect the project. Likewise, the cost and expenditure in association
with Travers solar project was also counted as a major challenge.
Key attributes in association with the project is the compliance of thought and view of Mr
Balaban in terms of go green and green energy future. Being a renewable energy system and
project is itself act as a key attribute. Likewise, focussed towards the aspect of enabling
electricity without having any adverse impact towards the environment also counted as its
attribute. In the same way being an energy production project with the use of solar energy would
itself act as a big attribute wherein the cost of energy and electricity is continuously being rising.
Go green and non-impact towards the wildlife and environment itself act as a big attribute of
project.
With regards to completion Mr Balaban and its team has major responsibility towards the
completion of project along with making compliance towards the environment and its policies.

As it is a tram work which again raise the responsibility of Mr Balaban in terms of making
synchronization of efforts of team towards the project. Likewise, making the cost classification
and ensuring the project would be complete without having any negative impact towards the
environment and surrounding is also the responsibility of Mr Balaban and its team.
In regard to my experience Mr Balaban is counted as key player behind the entire project.
This project is a realization of Mr Balaban’s thinking towards the renewable source. Being a key
player it is the responsibility of Mr Balaban that it will take of work of project that it will be
performed in the desired manner and compliance of environment laws. Likewise, raising
competition would act as major challenge in the path of success of project in my views.
However, key attribute including eco-friendly and go green would assist the project success.

Reflection
According to me , project manger is responsible for continuing the operation task fo any
activity in smoother manner. In my opinion as a project manager I have learnt several things that
can be beneficial for my further career. In construction industry there are several distinct area
which are crucial to emphasized in order to complete the project in effectual pattern. From this
specific solar simulation program it can be identified the specific organization has given me
immense knowledge regarding how projects are started & continued to continue till completion.
The process of having knowledge regarding how the power is produced and provided to homes
for understanding the basic criteria for which organization continue larger procedure (Wain,
2017). I have learnt that maximize energy production is maximized via accessing tracking
technologies. Wit h help of this particular solar energy generation it can be assessed that firm is
largely gives focus on the stakeholders and surroundings that can impact the functioning of
construction & development of any project.
There are variety of courses that I have gone through for understanding depth of
simulation game that is widely essential for making evaluation of each step comprised in any
similar project. I have come to know during the simulation game that entrepreneur experience
is tough as it involves higher risk for gaining profitability. In respect to diamond model as a
project manager I have understood its significance in formulating strategic decision in turn time
competition for matching standard area can be ascertained. In addition to this ., it is basically

concerned with establishing the guidelines for having adaptive approach of project management.
There are four levels on which the particular model concentrates on crucial areas such as novelty,
technology, complexity and pace. In my opinion, it is significant to largely emphasis on each
level as contributes in attaining success.
I have gain knowledge that in novelty part management of company can access how
new the product is in market. By evaluating this segment I understood that in what way
customers get familiar with particular offerings which is distinct derivative, platform and break
through products. After analyzing these particular segment, I have evaluated that it becomes
essential for the company to make appropriate differentiation regarding product offerings so that
carrying project in smoother manner can be become possible. The technology complexity &
uncertain widely impact designing, communication, interaction, timing, etc are crucial part of
project management. Technological uncertainties occur due to low, medium, high, and super, etc
that majorly influence technical competence. I have implied during this project that
complexities may arise in three different kinds of project such as assembly, system and array. In
order to be effectual project manager having critical knowledge in respect to time framework
becomes essential to be properly made plan for processing. It includes regular, competitive,
conceived and time critical so that better framework according to diamond model can be
assessed.
In my views, the important path for accomplishing the objective followed by Travers
project comprises sequence based steps for having better productivity. It includes dividing
project on the basis of goals formulated, allocating resources among the cells, identifying
operational and strategic diamonds & utilizing this particular models to fulfill the purpose of
company of building project. I have identified that discussed course of action has enable to
continue the project to particular extent in turn better sustainability & profitability to particular
extent has been derived. (Rosseel and Anseel, 2021) I have come to know that responsibilities
accomplished by Mr Balaban has helped me to identify certain attributes that are essential to
ensure smooth processing as project management. This has helped to recognize the technology
that is suitable for solar related projects in order to remove related complexities. I have learnt
from the simulation game as a project manager to have skill regarding time management, team
collaboration, resource forecasting & allocation, etc are required for building solar project. The
NTCP model has allowed me to gain required level of knowledge that are crucial for making

better evaluation in respect to positioning of strategy. Covid 19 affected the supply chain & other
parts of functional areas of the company but the skilled obtained by project management of
stated organization. In addition to this, I have become able to derive knowledge which can help
in overcoming such foreseen circumstances.
The project based on development of renewable energy that allowed me to gain
experience from the project that having appropriate objective which permits firm to provide
quality & useful products helps in attracting customers. In order to cover larger market share the
project manager is responsible for assuring quality of resources utilized by having significant
planning to carry forward the operational practices in effectual way. My personal experience
from the specific simulation program it can be identified that company having advance
knowledge for carrying forward operational practices is important in turn advanced technologies
suitable for particular stage can be recognized, analyzed and executed for fluent process by
removing irrelevant hurdles.
My experience from the stated simulation program is positive as I have obtained
different attributes that are crucially important for my career as project management. In order to
perform with team it is essential to play as proper coordinator & guider as project manager. I
have derived the information regarding the critical activities that are crucial for an individual to
know such as market, technology, level of system innovation, and urgency regarding the same.
According to me the gained information is helpful as it is related with construction project
regarding solar electricity to cater targeted audience in effectual pattern. With help of evaluating
major part of Traver solar project helped to attained important terms that are used in project
management which are important aspect to know while working as respective manger. The
action plan for overcoming challenges I will pay attention on particular in similar projects for
having more practical exposure regarding the same.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that development of solar project by Mr
Balaban’s would counted as major contribution towards the aspect of environment protection
along with energy production. This would be counted as true conversion of its thoughts into
reality in terms of enabling benefit to society with the raised awareness towards the protection of
environment. Likewise, it is also understood that Mr Balaban’s and its role was major with

regard to the Travers solar project. In the same way this report also summarize the aspect of
NTCP model along ith its usefulness with regard to the project evaluation and its analysis. With
the help of this model the success of the project can be determined adequately.
