INTRODUCTION
Organizational change can be defined as a process through which changes within an
organization’s strategy, technologies, processes, procedures and culture is brough such that it
becomes one of the main reasons of bringing changes within an organization. Change is the only
thing which constant and these changes can affect an organization both positively and negatively
(Cummings, Bridgman and Brown, 2016). There are various kinds of changes that can be
brought within an organization such as: strategic change, structural change, process-oriented
change and people-oriented change. This assignment will focus on 2 retail sector organizations:
Tesco and Marks and Spencer. Both of them are British multinational retailers. This assignment
will focus on organizational strategy and operation of Tesco and M&S, drivers of change that
affect individual behaviour, leadership and team behaviour, leadership approaches to deal with
change within organization.

P1 Distinguish various organization that has been influences of change on an strategy as well as
operations.
There is always requirement for change within a firm as it can usually depend on the
different factors ,that is within the case of Tesco. Every firm has its own values and cultures to
recognize its customers and employees. Tesco focused on the value's and ideologies such as
Honesty, fairness and responsibility (Mihaljević, 2019). Tesco provides Flexible work
environment to their staff members as it enhances the participation of the employees within
various decisions and roles,it also leads to the resistance of the staff members , thus it can limit
the innovation and productivity. Within the long term it will impacts the performance of the
firm. Also, Tesco managers applies the theory y assumptions as per this theory management of
tesco believes that the staff members believes that
staff members obtain the other additional activities within their place of work. As per this theory
the managers of the tesco believes that work will be done efficiently and self driven ( Nelson.
and Luetz, 2019). But this theory not fully lead to the efficiency as due to the extensive number
of managers and one surprise makes its complex to use such kinds of approach.
Changes in Marks & Spencer
Technological change – M& S Firm is consider as one of the latest non-food and food retailer all
across the world. After the change in the technology the firms faces the change in organizational

strategies such as they have to recruit the new I.T expert as they cost them higher as compare to
the other employees which is not beneficial for the firm overall. New technology brings various
positive changes also as now the costumers does not wait for their number whenever they buy
new groceries ,their records will automatically get the home delivery of the groceries (Soini,
Pietarinen. and Pyhältö, 2016).
Change in Operations such as they have to implement new computers as well as Up-gradation of
the software as per the technology. They also make their new policies as per technology
requirement as well as provides the training to the new and existing employees. So that they can
learn new technology which is beneficial for their future career references as proper training is
also maximizes the productivity of the Mark & Spencer (Hughes, 2015).
M1 Economic factors of Tesco are accountable for the changes such as firm expand its
operations within the certain market,the demands regarding products and services affects the
cash glows and direct impacts on the sales. Social factors such as the need burgers of the tesco
adversely affected the image of the Tesco in front of the world as well as lowered the Loyalty of
the consumers. While Marks & Spencer adopts the new technology so that it can effects the
operations of the firm all over the world such as in marketing and production. Social media
marketing by Facebook ad twitter must be considered to assure to meet the target audiences also
online shopping must be increased later on (Canterino, Cirella. and Shani., 2018). Drivers of the
change included the following political factors ,technological factors and social factors .Rules
and regualtion given by the government can affects the Working of Tesco and Marks &
Spencers. Also firm has to b engaged in making use of updated technology in order to adjust in
changing environment.

P 2 Internal & external drivers of change affect leadership in an organization.
Leadership help to establish smooth working in an organization and to make effective
utilization of all available resources. Both internal and external environment need to be analyzed
effectively and their impact on growth of organization.
