INTRODUCTION
Operation management is administration of business practices for creating highest level
of efficiency possible within organisation. This area is concern with designing and controlling
process of production and redesigning business operations in production of products and services
(Copacino, 2019). Apart from this, logistic management is supply chain management component
which utilise for meeting customers demand by planning, controlling and implementation of
effective movement as well as storage of related information, goods and services from origin to
destination. This report is based on Automotive sector organisation i.e., land Rover which was
introduced in 1978 and in 2013 merged with Jaguar Cars to form Jaguar Land Rovers. In this
report two area chosen are New product/service development and process as well as managing
quality. Along with this theoretical framework will also going to implement which will assist in
implementation of select areas within effective manner.
MAIN BODY
Review of relevant operation, logistic and supply chain management theories
Land rover is British brand of four-wheel drive cars, which offering premium, luxury
and sport utility vehicles. Owned by multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, which
has been owned by India's Tata Motors since 2008 (Tsai and Pawar, 2018). It was founded in
1978 and its founder was British Leyland. In 2013, merged with Jaguar cars to form jaguar land
Rover as well its headquarter is located at England: Solihull, West Midlands.
In this report two selected areas are managing quality as well as company is coming up
with some new services within market area. Managing quality is necessary as it help company in
satisfying their customers within more effective manner. Because customer satisfaction play
important role in building brand image within market area. On the other hand, managing quality
is necessary because bad quality offering have its negative impact on brand value as well as good
will (Halldórsson, 2019). Thus, it is necessary for Land Rover to manage quality of their
products as well as services for making their customer satisfy. Land rover is coming up with new
services in market area which is after selling services as on monthly basis they will go by
themselves to customers for giving them after sales services. In this customer need not to go
service centre because worker will come directly and take car with them to workshop for service.

Main motive behind introducing this service is to make customer satisfy in more effective
manner by providing them after services.
Operation management theory There are several theories which has been
Implemented by Land Rover within their working as it will help them in managing quality of
their offerings (Fosso Wamba and et.al., 2018). Explanation of these are as follows :-
Six Sigma – It is disciplined, statistical based, data driven approach as well as continuous
improvement methodology which utilise for eliminating defects within products, process or
services. Six sigma approach was introduced in 1980 by Motorola and Bill Smith. This approach
is based on quality management fundamentals and it will provide assistance to Land Rover in
improving capability of their business procedure. Six sigma approach result in increasing
performance as well as reduction within process variation which help in leading to defect
reduction and improvement in profit, employee morale as well as quality of products and
services (Copley, 2018). With this approach, some statistical tools are explained to staff
members of Land Rover and ask them to implement these for managing quality when required.
Implementation of six sigma approach will be beneficial for working of respective automotive
sector company as it will help them in deducting defective parts of cars and other products which
is not accurate. Thu, in simple word it can be said that six sigma help Land Rover is managing
quality of their offerings.
Lean management – It is an approach which utilise for managing an organisation that
support concept of continuous improvement, a long term approach to word which assist in
achieving small, incremental changes within procedure for improving efficiency and quality.
Main purpose of lean management approach is to produce value for customer of land Rover by
optimisation of resources as well as create a steady workflow which based on real customer
demands (lean management, 2019). This operational management framework will provide
assistance to Land Rover as they are coming up with new services related to after sale because it
seeks to eliminate waste of time, identify steps which are not creating value for organisation.
Along with this, lean manufacturing also play important role in managing quality of products and
services because this philosophy have its roots within manufacturing (Kim and et. al., 2018).
There are several factors on which lean manufacturing focuses such as defining value from
standpoint of the end customer, eliminate waste within business processes as well as continuous
