Equality and diversity are considered as important aspect of business effecting employee at the workplace. it is
important for the firm to provide equal treatment to all employee creating the efficient and effective working
terminology. This will be done in measuring different dimensions such as age race, religions, disability or
sexual orientation. the basic cultural competence will look out in establishing better understanding,
communications and interacting with individual belonging to different cultural belief and schedules. Marks and
spencer are the leading retail fashion organization headquarter in UK. The firm is currently facing the issue in
maintaining proper coordination among employee due to varying of different culture and belief.
Aim- To determine the impact cultural discrimination productivity and profitability of Marks and
spencer.

Research Objectives
a) To evaluate the importance of equality & cultural diversity in the workplace.
b) To understand the impact of cultural diversity on the productivity of Sainsbury
c) To examine the strategies to reduce the workplace cultural discrimination.
Research questions:
1) What is the importance of equality & cultural diversity in the workplace?
2) How the cultural diversity impacts the productivity of marks and spencer?
3) What are the different strategies to reduce the workplace cultural discrimination?

Rationale
Workplace diversity have been identified as recent and major issue prevailing at retail workplace. In the recent
year cultural competency have increase the major level of cultural differences and cross culture skills in retail
industry. I need to work as HR manager in upcoming year for which there needs to create proper
understanding and knowledge in maintaining successful HR professionalism. This research will be help me out
in conduct appropriate PDP for attaining the proper skill development of my dream professions in perfect
manner.

Equality and diversity
As per the view of Klarsfeld and et.al., (2016), Equality at the workplaces provides employees positive work
environment and remove major level of difference existing between the member of company. On the other
hand, the inclusive workforce has proper belonging from the different backgrounds, knowledge, skill and
experiences to rete the positive and effective workforce. On the other hand, the Klein, (2016) contradicted as
the importance in retail company to organize with human reduce practicing with need to make proper institute
promoting quality and diversity looking to all stakeholder’s culture in organization. In addition, the succession
of equality and diversity have clear dependency integrations for both organization strategy and its culture. The
ability of the organization is to identify the issue and tackle discrimination in the workplaces which will greatly
enforce equality and diversity in the workplace.
Cultural diversity
As per the view of Ng and Stamper., (2018), the workplace have the increase in diverse workforce will be
creating the negative impacts on the development of cultural competencies. There is need for important skill
delivering in workplace provide effective training to individuals in perfect manner. In addition, the author has
state as cultural competency with ability understood, communicate and effectively major interacting with
different culture. There may be varying of cultural belief and schedules. On the other hand, Ylöstalo, , (2016)
have negative impact due to language, dresses or the clash in established norms within the workplace giving
rise to the resentments and mistrust. In addition, the cultural diversity turns out in boosting the productivity and
creativity. As result, it will turn out igniting loyalty with boosting employee retention. This also lead in having
their varsity ad better execution by getting comfortable with sharing viewpoints from the different cultural
backgrounds.
Impact of Equality and Diversity of The Firm of Productivity
As per the view of Attfield and Attfield, (2019), managing both equality and diversity considered important
for both organization and employees. The author supported the statement as the business have been proven bias
and discriminative within workplaces which have impede the business growth and productivity. In the retail
sector, there are heavy networks of the different suppliers, HR and consumers to complete the proper tracking
and managing of equality and diversity at workplace. So, it is important for the organization for having the
responsibility to promote equality throughout the working and management of company. Equality and diversity
have the live to embrace the right skills and learning the firm have to understand that providing the equality
will provide value to the company.
Research gaps
As from the above literature review, it can be clearly understood as the equality and diversity promotion have
its own pro and cons. The challenge for the future embrace with partnership aimed at closing the gap between
the universal expansion of the world. There is need to look into
accountability in accomplishing the of the equality and diversity preprogrammes.
