INTRODUCTION
Employee relations deal in the efforts of the organisation for creating and maintaining a
positive relationship with its employees. Positive employee relations help in keeping the
employees loyal and increase their engagement in the work. The major responsibility of
maintaining the employee relations lies in the hands of Human Resource department of the
organisations. Employee relation manager acts as a liaison or the intermediary between the
manager and the employees and also contributes in creating the policies regarding the employee
issues such as proper work life balance, fair compensation, reasonable working hours etc. (Lee,
2017). In order to maintain the employee relations, the organisation must not consider the
employee as simply the paid labourers but major contributors or the stakeholders which can help
the executives in taking feedbacks from the employees, valuing their input and also considering
the experience of employees in making decisions of the company.
Morrison Supermarkets plc. is considered as the fourth largest chain of the supermarkets in
UK is headquartered in England. The company performs its operations in various other countries
such as Scotland, Wales, South of England etc. It provides goods and services to almost 11
million customers every week. The company deals in products such as clothing Food and drink,
magazines, books, DVDs and CDs (Morrisons Corporate, 2021).
The report will shed light on the value and significance of employee relations in companies
like Morrison along with describing the fundamentals of employment laws which can be applied
to the organisations. It will be followed by different types of duties, rights and obligations which
are possessed by the employees and employers along with highlighting the employment
relationship in various organisations. Stakeholder analysis will be performed with respect to the
Morrison company. The impact of positive and negative employee relations will be evaluated in
the workplace.
P1. Importance and value of employee relations
Employee relation are the relations which an employer have with its employees. These
relations are important for influencing satisfaction and engagement to their employees. This is
why companies like Morrison are seen investing their efforts and resources for improving the
relations with their employees for keeping nice and healthy work environment. Some values and
importance of employee relations are,

Employee Loyalty :
Loyalty of an employee is very important for an organization. Loyalty is developed in an
employee because of their relations with the employer. Poor relations with the employer mostly
results in the employee leaving. Losing an employee to its competition is a devastating issue for
the company (Zeffane and Melhem, 2017).
Productivity :
When an employee has positive relations with its employer its productivity significantly
increases. Increase in productivity of an employee contributes towards the increase in revenue
generation of the company. This happens because due to the positive relations the employee
starts to feel happy and enjoys its work and end up putting more efforts on their respective
projects.
Motivation :
It is very important for an employee to be motivated while working in an organization.
Which can only happen if the relations between the employee and the employer are good. A
motivated employee works with positive attitude in the organization. Positive attitude in the
employee increases productivity and reduces the chances of conflicts (Castillo and Del Valle,
2017).
Dedication :
Good relations with the employees makes them dedicated towards their work. This is
good for increasing productivity and also provides the sense of responsibility in the employees
for their work.
The negative aspects of employer-employee relations are mainly because of the poor
relations between them. Due to the poor relations between employee and employers the conflicts
in the organization starts to increase. Conflicts affect the companies performance and also affects
the work environment for other employees. Poor employee relations demotivates the employees
because of which they hold back their performances which leads to bad productivity in the
company. Employees when do not have good relations with their employers do not want to stay
in the company thus the employee retention rate of the company decreases. This results in bad
