Introduction
It is important to pay more attention on the manpower because it can considered as the the
assets of the enterprises. In every enterprise, Human resource Department is the one which is
responsible for the entire activities of the manpower and also take care about their career growth.
HR manager need to perform numerous functions such as strategic hiring process, selection,
training and development, performance appraisal, compensation, talent management etc. All
these functions are playing essential part in the development of the manpower (Chams and
García-Blandón, 2019). The prime purpose of this report is to explain about the human resource
management of Morrison’s which is large British supermarket chain that operate business across
the whole world. This company founded in 1899 by the William Morrison and headquarter
situated in Brandford, England. This report will determine the purpose & functions of the HRM
& importance of HR that plays in acquiring talent to meet business objectives. This report also
discusses about the workforce planning, recruitment & selection, training & development,
performance management & reward system. Moreover, this report explains various methods that
used in HR practices. To achieve the success, Morrison’s set appropriate mission, purpose &
business objective which are as follows-
Mission - To gain more success, Company focuses on their products quality so that company
maintain strong brand image at the marketplace.
Purpose - To pay attention on customers’ requirements which can help to gain more customers
loyalty & satisfaction?
Business objective - To provide products at the suitable cost so that company can lead the whole
market and take more Competitive advantages.
Purpose of the HR function & the key roles & responsibilities of the HR
function

Every HRM department needs to concentrate on the purpose of their operations &
functions which can help to gain more positive outcomes. Some specific HR functions
considered by the Morrison which is explained below-
Learning & Development
This function is helpful to ensure that all the employees can effectively adopt the change
process, technologies, legal shifts and procedures. Learning & development function is useful to
reskill & up skill the employees. L& D is helpful to provide the long term benefits to the
employees of Morrison’s. This function is beneficial for both employees and employer because
highly motivated employees can make a good interaction with the employers.
Succession Planning
Succession planning is considered as the ongoing process which can help in the planning of
contingencies if any case some key employees are looking forward to leave the organization. For
instance, talented senior manager quit the job then company need to ready the replacement so
that they can operate their operations effectively. This function mainly based on the L& D and
performance management efforts (El-Kassar and Singh, 2019). Succession planning is useful to
give chance for that candidate who is more capable to perform their job so company can replace
them from existing employees & those who want to exit their job. High potential employees are
helpful to maintain good engagement with the employer so that they can communicate properly
and resolve their problems.
Performance Appraisal
This function is useful to evaluate the performance level of the manpower so that they can
improve their performance as compared to the previous one. Morrison’s HR manager provides
constant feedback to their employees so that they can know the current status of their
performance and then improve that to gain the promotion. This function is beneficial for the both
employer can employees because highly satisfied employees can effectively make good
communication with the employer so that customer can easily ask for their doubts and queries.
Compensation & benefits

This HR function is prominent because it can help to motivate and encourage employees
so that they can perform their job more effectively. Morrison’s give many compensatory & other
monetary benefits to their employees (Franco-Santos and Doherty, 2017). Communication &
other benefits are essential to motivate employees so that they can work effectively without any
workload. Highly motivated employees are connect with their employer more actively son it i9s
beneficial for both employees & employer.
Purpose of HR Functions
Morrison’s HR manager contains all these functions with a specific purpose. The main
purpose of learning & development is to bridge the skill gap and develop new core competencies
and skills for the employees. The main purpose performance appraisal is to improve & evaluate
the performance and productivity level of employees so that they can perform effectively.
Compensation and other benefit purpose are to attract and motivate the employees so that they
can do where each and every task seriously and participate in the success of the organization.
Key roles & responsibilities of HR functions
There are various roles and responsibilities playing by the HR manager of Morrison’s in
context of HR functions. Some specific roles and responsibilities such as hire the right candidate
for the right job, maintain record of each and every employees, process payroll, update policies
and strategies as per the situation, conduct benefit analysis, arrange training and development
sessions, rating the performance of employees, provide proper feedback. Promotional activities,
reward system and many more role and responsibilities performed by the HR manager of
Morrison’s in term of HR functions (FrancoSantos and Otley, 2018).

There are various role performed by the HR manager in acquiring the talent which can help
full to meet the business objective. Morrison’s HR manager plays a significant role to maintain
the top talent in their organization so that they can meet the entire business objective effectively.
With the help of talent management and its practices, company e can acquire top talent and retain
for long time period so that they can meet the business objective in a proper way. The
significance of all these talent management practices is more and the description of all these
practices are given below-

Talent management is essential to attract and retain best talent so that organization can keep
them for longer time duration so that they can provide their best services to achieve the business
