INTRODUCTIONThe operations management is a field of management that is related with designing andcontrolling the process of production; it plays a crucial role in the production of goods andservices and the business operations are also redesigned in this. In terms of using few resources,it involves the responsibility to make sure that operations of business are efficient. The entireproduction system is managed and the inputs are being converted into outputs. Here, the productsare produced, quality is managed and the services are being created by operations. The varioussectors such as customers, banking, hospital etc. are being covered by operations management.Toyota PLC is well-known company in UK. It is a leading automobile manufacturer.More than 10 million vehicles are being manufactured by this company. In this report, the rolesof both leader and manager will be defined and also comparison between them will also be done.In context of the organisation, the examples of leader and managers will also be given.Furthermore, in this report, various theories of leadership will be applied with respect to thementioned company. The key approaches to operational management will also be explained andthe importance in achieving the goals of the business will also be elucidated in this report(Toyota PLC, 2017).1
TASK-1 P1: The different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager for Toyota PLC In any company, both manager and leader play an essential role. For different companies,their role may vary but they are important for an organisation’s success. The roles of managersand leader for the company Toyota PLC are as follows-:Manager – In the direction of the predetermined goals and aims of the company, the work isbeing managed and designed by the managers. The relevant strategies and polices are beingdeveloped and planned in order to achieve the objectives of Toyota PLC. In accordance to thetasks, the working of the staff and other employees is being planned by them. In order to managethe tasks in different departments, the managers are distributed on various levels. With theappraisal of the performance for Toyota PLC, the managers are also concerned and by them atregular intervals, the process of appraisal is being performed. In order to achieve the objective ofbusiness in an effective and efficient manner, manager is required to get all the resourcestogether. The wastage of resource has been minimised by them and through high utilisation ofresources, they increase the chances for attainment of goals. The objectives are being planned bythe managers and also they manage resource and control the work effectively in the organisation.Leaders - By concerning the roles of the organisation, leaders get the work done from theemployees. In order to motivate and encourage the employees, the leaders play a vital role inToyota PLC. The visions of the organisation is been conspired by them through their leadershipskills and communication skills. In order to achieve the objective of the business they makeemployees to work according to it. The employees are been influenced and inspired by theleaders of the company. The wining strategies are been made by leaders and also the workingenvironment need to be understand by them (Akkerman Farahani and Grunow 2010).Difference between leaders and managersThe roles of leaders and managers are often considered as interchangeable by thecompany. In the function that is been performed by the managers and leasers there lies adifference in order to get the work from employees in the organisation. As per the vision of theorganisation the task of setting up the objective is mainly performed by the managers of thecompany. It is the duty of the leaders to communicate this vision to the employees and also tomotivate and encourage them in such a way that vision of the company becomes there ownvisions.
