INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is defined as the formal method through which a
person working with a professional in health care setting establishes goals, strategies. It helps an
individual in managing their own learning and growth in career. Personal and professional
development can be defined as the procedure of improving as well as increasing capabilities of
employees within a health care institution through allowing them access of training and
education opportunities. It is important as it allows an individual to develop skills and core
competencies which are required to deliver services in health care organization. Personal and
professional development aids in eliminating the chances of medical errors.
The report has focus on identifying the importance of personal values in health and social
care setting. It also emphasizes on assessing the way personal culture as well as experience
influence service user. Study will also highlight the various approaches to self-managed learning.
TASK 1
1. Discussing personal values in health care setting
Values can be defined as set of personal attitude and belief about the practices in health
care setting. I when facilitating my nursing practices in health care organisation I follow mainly
three principles these are equality among patients, human dignity and prevention of suffering. I
as a care provider perceives that nurses should also have these values such as autonomy,
integrity, social justice and altruism. I have analysed the values are the factors which has direct
as well as significant influence on an individual. I perceive that service provider in health and
social care organisation needs to develop abilities to support people in a manner that dignity as
well as self-esteem are maintained. I believe that nurses are required to have knowledge and
awareness concerning professional values as standards to provide safe and high-quality ethical
care. I also perceive that safeguarding patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality of service
user is very much crucial.
As I am very much religious I perceives that nurses are required to possess an effective
communication skill which is very much important in order to deliver quality services to
patients. Considering the given case scenario, I also believe that person suffering from infectious
disease should be treaty equally and they should not be discriminated.

2.assesing the way personal culture as well as experience influence the support given to service
user.
I think that personal values have direct as well as significant effect on an individual
practice at workplace. I have analyzed that an individual behave or react positively to people
those who share their values and person behave rudely to people who have different priorities. In
context of given case scenario, I have observed that nurses support those patients who share
same value. In context of given case study, an individual suffering from an infectious treatment
are not given proper care s nurses and professional think that if they will go close to patient they
will prone to that specific disease. I believe that as a service provider an individual need to keep
assisted their beliefs behind and they need to behave in professional manner. I perceive that as a
service provider our first duty as a nurse is to ensure that patient is receiving best care. While
performing my duties as care provider I don’t allow my personal views which holds service user
to prejustice assessment and restrict access to services.
3. Analyzing the way current legislation, policies and processes in workplace effect service user.
Government has formulated various laws which purpose is to protect people working in
health care setting and also to those who are vailing care services. There are various laws which
has affected my values as well as practices in health care institutions these are:
Essential standards for Quality in care: This legislation governs circumstances which influences
dignity, for instance, living conditions in health care home.
Manual handling operations regulations: This law provides guidance related to reducing the risk
related withy carrying, lifting etc.
Control of substances Hazardous to health 2002 Act: It is very much important for management
in health care organization to implement this law to cleansing material as well as medications
which might be dangerous if not used properly (Olson, 2015). As per this legislation, it is the
duty of care to protect employees as well as service user from harm by ensuring that potentially
dangerous substances are safely stored and that workers those who use them are provided with
complete training.
Data protection act- As per this law it is important for service provider in health care institution
to maintain the confidentiality of information provided by employees or patients. Information
should not be disclosed without the permission of patient or their family members.
