Title - E- Portfolio: What talent strategies do the best companies use to attract and retain
people?
INTRODUCTION
On the basis of current scenario, every business need to follow appropriate strategies
which can lead the high market growth. There are various functioning area are are considered in
an organisation such as marketing, finance, human resource, R&D , production and operation. In
all these functioning areas, human resource is the one which is responsible to take care about
employees day to day activities. HR department it is also liable to formulate specific strategies so
that they can improve the performance and effectiveness of the employees. Talent management is
the the most influential strategy which is beneficial to attract and retain employees for the
longest time period in the organisation. This report will discuss about talent management
strategies of ASDA which is British supermarket chain that founded in 1949 and headquarter
established in Leeds , England. This report will discuss about aims & objectives of this research
study and determine the project management plan. Moreover , this report explain work
breakdown structure and gantt chat and also conduct small scale research and provide some
recommendations and also discuss reflective statement.
Research Aim
"The main aim of this research study is to identify the impact of talent management strategies on
employee’s retention and development”. A case study of ASDA.
Research Objective
To understand the importance of talent management in context of organization.
To determine key benefits of talent management strategies to attract & retain employees
in the organization.
To indentify key challenges that mainly experienced by the ASDA due to lack of talent
management technologies.
Research Questions

Literature Review
Importance of talent management in context of organization.
According to the Ashley Brooks, ( 2019), revealed that talent management considered as
an integral part of the organisation. HR professional is responsible to work on talent management
so that manager can conduct strategic hiring process and recruit top most talent for the
organisation. The importance of talent management is increasing continuously because there is a
huge demand of talented employees at the marketplace. With the help of talent management,
manager can effectively keep current employees provide them advance level of training sessions
so that they can improve their talent and retain in the organisation for the longer period of time.
There are some other importance of talent management such as attract top talent, employee
motivation, employee engagement and higher satisfaction of customers (Chung and
D’Annunzio-Green, 2018).
Benefits of talent management strategies to attract & retain employees in the organization.
According to the Marc Holliday, ( 2021), discussed that talent management it is comes
under most beneficial strategy of human resource which can help to to provide positive impact
on the organisation and their employees both. There are various benefits provided which are
giving in context of organisation and employees both. Ami specific benefits for the organisation
such as better recruitment, improve diversity, equality & inclusion, decline attrition , employees
engagement and effective succession planning. Few benefits of the employees like effective on
boarding experience, hire top talent, training & reskilling, career advancement and employees
experience. These are all the benefits of talent management that can help full to increase the
productivity & effectiveness of the employees which can help to retain in the organization for
longer period. There are various organisations which are more serious about talent management
strategies and considered various talent management practices and methods like performance
management, performance appraisal, strategic hiring process, advanced training and
development session, high compensation (da Silva, 2017).

Key challenges that mainly experienced by the ASDA due to lack of talent management
technologies.
According to the Andre,(2015), determined that Talent management is essential for
development of the employees & firm. Some companies are not practicing talent management
strategies so that they can face adverse responses. Due to the lack of talent management
strategies, companies are experiencing various challenges which effect their productivity and
effectiveness and the performance of their employees also decline. Some specific challenges
experience while the companies such as encouraging passion, enhancement of new interest, offer
impressive salary and benefits, provide engaging working and attract talent at the first place
(Dodds and Hess, 2020). All these challenges are occur while companies are not practicing
regularly talent management strategies.
Project Management Plan
Project management plan is container as the formal document is really define that how
project need to be carried out. Basically project management plan considered some activities
such as cost, scope, quality, time, communication, resources and risk. All these activities are are
helpful to maintain the project properly and evaluate the whole process in an effective manner.
The description of all these activities in context of this research are discussed below-
Cost - for the effective project management plan, it is necessary to set specific cost so
that all the activities operating properly. Researcher need to to consider cost as per each
and every activities which are involved in this research such as marketing, promotion
and many more. For completing the research project , researcher considered the cost

Scope - To complete the research project successful it is necessary to considered the
scope of the project which will help to to maintain the performance of the research. As
for this project, it is analysed that the scope of talent management is more in context of
companies. Through specific talent management strategies, companies can effectively
maintained the high skilled employees for the longer duration. This report also analyse
the benefits and challenges which are experienced by the organization (Ford, 2017).
Quality - In order to to gain more appropriate outcomes from the Research report, it is
necessary for the researcher to maintain the quality of research. Researcher need to
collect most relevant and adequate information and data from the various sources so that
it can effectively maintain the authenticity and quality of the data. With the help of
questionnaire methods researcher can collect the primary data to gain the most possible
outcomes. Researcher can collect secondary data from the journals, articles, books and
websites. To maintain the quality of the research it is essential to pay more attention on
the research objective and also so worked properly to complete the research project on
time.
Time - To complete the research project on time is also necessary factor which comes
under the project management plan. Researcher need to to set specific time on the basis
of research activities and initiate to complete each and and every activities on time which
can help to to completing the research on given time period.
Communication - This is also considered as the the important component of the project
management plan. Effective communication is necessary it will helpful to consider the
information, experience, opinion from the the targeted population. With the help of
communication, researcher can maintain the coordination with their subordinates and
help them to obtain the research objective in an effective manner. Through
communication, researcher can communicate with the other people via telephone , e-
mail, face to face interaction in order to to gain the right information. Communication
shall we done with list of members of ASDA , as per to identify the importance, benefits
and challenges of the talent management strategies. On the basis of their communication,
researcher can consider all the responses and use in their research (Meyer and Xin,
2018).
Resources - As path to achieve the research aim & objectives, it is mandatory for the

researcher to require various resources which can help full to complete the research
project effectively. There are various resources which are involved in this research such
as employees, human resource, assets & other resources (Mohammed, Gururajan and
Hafeez-Baig, 2017).
Risk - In project management plan, risk factor also involved which create uncertainty
and various issues during the research project time. It is necessary for the researcher to
analyse all the risk factor which can create issue to complete the research. Researcher
can face risk to maintain the personal information and details of the the respondents,
complete research on time it is also considered the big risk for the researcher. Sometimes
researcher also face risk related to allotted budget because researcher need to complete
the research project on a particular budget.
Work breakdown structure and a Gantt Chart
Work breakdown structure
This structure is considered as desirable oriented hierarchical framework which mainly
dis composition of work which executed by project team to obtain the project objectives. Work
breakdown structure helpful to maintain the effective project, monitoring, executing and
completing the Research report in an effective manner.Under WBS , research project mainly
divided into various small components to achieve the project aims and objective in hierarchical
manner so that the researcher can easily complete the research. To complete the research
properly , researcher use proper structure so that the whole research process can be complete
properly (Neri and Wilkins, 2019).
