Work Health and Safety Assignments for University Students

This article provides two assessment tasks for university students on Work Health and Safety (WHS). The first task covers WHS Acts and regulations, effectiveness of WHS policy, and hazard identification and risk management system of the university. The second task covers new WHS legislation, WHS audit conduct, recommended hazard identification procedure, risk assessment and management strategies, team member training needs, recommended training resources, mentoring and coaching arrangements, and WHS record keeping requirements.

Assessment task 1
1. Providing an overview of WHS Acts and regulations that the University has
addressed
The University addresses the Work Health and Safety Policy, 2016. The commitment
of the University is on the health and safety of every member involved with the University or
is affected by it (Sydney.edu.au 2018).
2. Describing effectiveness of the WHS policy of the University
The policy supports implementation of safety management system that helps in
providing safe and healthy work environment, safe system of work, appropriate information
and training and a positive culture.
3. An overview of the hazard identification and risk management system of the
University
The University allows its senior managers to demonstrate active and visible
leadership skills during any hazard or risk. Each of the organisational unit takes
responsibilities for identifying the risks related to the safety of people as per clause 7 of the
procedure.

4. Summarising universities WHS system
The WHS system followed by the University undertakes the safety of the people and
identifies hazards that can help in keeping the University. It remains in line with the Work
Health and Safety Policy, 2016 and supports a healthy working environment. Responsibilities
are delegated as per the law in accordance with clause 7 of the WHS procedure.
Assessment task 2
1. Overview of the new WHS legislation
The new WHS legislation helps in the development of national policy so that work
health and safety of the workers can be improved by providing compensation arrangements
across Australia. It is necessary to meet the WHS requirements set in the state or territory.
2. Summary of WHS audit conduct
Participation made in the team helps in undertaking proper measures that are related
to the WHS policy. The auditing of the University shows that the changes in legislation are
based on the safety of the people and for identifying any discrepancy in the work place
procedure.
3. Recommended hazard identification procedure
The hazard identification procedure of the University is based on analysing the
process and procedure that are associated with working in the University. The procedure can
involve reviewing the possible hazards that are involved either annually or on a monthly basis
with the help of performance management system.

4. Risk assessment and management strategies
The risk assessment strategy includes categorising the risks in a systematic manner
and ensuring that proper managerial perspectives such as formulating strategies are adopted
so that the risk mitigation can be done in a proper manner.
5. Identifying team member training needs
The training needs of the team member involve providing theoretical and practical
assessment of the risk assessment that are associated with the University. Training such as
conducting ways related to exit of the building during any fire emergency can be provided to
the team members.
6. Recommended training resources
Recommended training resources include providing courses on risk assessment
activities so that the professional development of the people takes place. Training courses on
management and risk assessment development can be provided so that people can be provide
assistance during emergency situations.
7. Mentoring and coaching arrangements
The mentoring and coaching arrangements can be organised by hiring professional
people involved in conducting management strategies and identifying risk identification
hazards.
8. WHS record keeping requirements
According to the legislation, that WHS record keeping requirement involves
documenting any organisational changes that may occur. The records need to be maintained
after every 4 years.
