Introduction
Work based learning is defined as structured opportunity available to the individual for
enhancing their learning and it is achieved through authentic task and evaluated in the workplace
effectively (Smith and Malloch, 2021). It is one of the essential strategy taken into consideration
by the person that leads to offering them with real life work experience allowing them to use
their academic and technical skills as well as enhance their employability. For this report Premier
Inn is taken as the base hotel. Premier Inn is one of the well established and largest hotel brand,
with more than 72,000 rooms and around 800 hotels. It was founded in 1987 by whitebread,
offering quality service to their customers and maintaining their position around the globe. This
report highlights the detailed description of skills audit and personal development plan for the
job role, also the progress in planning for undertaking the work role in respect to the business
organisation is also highlighted in this report. In addition to this, the skills and knowledge
required for the work role is also highlighted along with the learning and progress document with
reflective logs and journals. Also the planning for a future career role is also highlighted in this
report.

individual, it offers the proper evidence of existing or developed skills of the individual
(Pokharel,2021). It helps in analysing the requirement for any kind training or personal

and planning of the hotel manager plays an essentials role. The skills of the manager plays an

The role of hotel manager at the Premier Inn to manage and handle all the operations of
the hotel, as well as plan and organise the accommodation, catering and other services. Hotel
manager provide the clarity of role and responsibility to the staff members as well as motivating
them to perform better. The role of the hotel manager at the Premier Inn requires certain set of
necessary skills such as operational knowledge, detailed oriented, communication, interpersonal
skills and so on. One of the most essentials skill required to undertake the role of hotel manager
at Premier Inn is communication skills. My personal progress in order to improve
communication skill to effectively undertake the role of hotel manager at the Premier Inn
involves attending various seminars organised for improving communication skills by the
managers or industry leaders and also through reading books and practising daily. In addition to
this my progress in order to improve my problem solving skills includes continuously practice

and analyse the situation and creating mind map before solving the problem. This progress will
allows me to handle complex problem, find most effective solution for any particular problem
faced by the staff members of any other department. In addition to this my progress in improving
my interpersonal skills is to continuously practice empathy, active listening as well as being
assertive. This progress will help me to build positive relation with the staff members and
customers as being a hotel manager of Premier Inn. The progress planning will enable me to
effectively prepare for any kind of situation while undertaking the role of hotel manager at
Premier Inn, ass well perform better.

and achieving desired goals and objectives and enhancing the overall performance of an
individual (Delaney, Kummerand Singh, 2019). In case of hotel manager, he is responsible for
managing and organising all the work in a hotel such as he plan and manage accommodation,
catering and other hotel operations. The skills and knowledge required for a Hotel manager are
mentioned below:
Communication skills: It allows the individual to effectively transfer their ideas to others
without any kind of misunderstanding. Hotel manager are responsible for handling and managing
all the operation of the hotel, and considered to be the face of the hotel. So to be the manager of
premier inn requires excellent communication skills to handle the job requirement and
communicate their expectations, needs and opinions to their staff members.
Interpersonal skills: This skill plays an essentials role in being an effective
communicator, it is the responsibility of the hotel manager to keep the guest and employees
happy, this skill allows them to maintain positive relationship with others. The hotel manager
needs to interact with diverse group of individual from around the globe, interpersonal skills
allows them to maintain their integrity, professionalism and understanding while interacting with
others (Coghill, 2018).
Leadership Skills: Another essentials skills required by the hotel managers is the
leadership skills, this skills allows the individual to lead and influence the team members to
move towards achieving desired goals and objectives. Hotel manager needs to be strong team

requires strong leadership to smoothly carry out their work.
Flexibility: Hotel managers are responsible for handling all the operations of the
business, deal with unforeseen and unexpected situations. Flexibility and adaptability are the
essentials skills that will allows the manager to make correct and well informed decisions.
Flexibility allows the hotel manager to analyse situation and take corrective decisions (Höhns,
