Homework Assignment
AI Summary
The homework assignment involves an exploration of qualitative research methodologies applied to study self-awareness in philosophy. The scholar adopts a qualitative research approach over quantitative methods due to the subjective nature of data involved. An exploratory research design is chosen for its suitability in examining intricate concepts related to self-awareness. For primary data collection, self-observation has been employed as opposed to secondary sources like surveys or focus groups. This allows for an expressive approach where emotions and feelings are captured through literary and artistic works. Qualitative data analysis is descriptive, focusing on the scholar's own observations. Ethical considerations have been strictly adhered to with efforts made to minimize bias and maintain integrity in presenting true reactions and thoughts. However, a limitation noted in this study is its scope, confined only to the scholar’s perspectives, suggesting potential for future research expansion by including additional viewpoints or data.

Part B
Research methods are critical aspect for every study (Lehmann et al 2014). Special
attention has to be given to obtain a detailed sketch of research methodology, such that research
aims can be attended to appropriately.
Research Philosophy
It is the underlying aspect for each study which has to be determined by the scholar.
From four types of available philosophies, epistemology, ontology, axiology and rhetoric scholar
has to select one (Gomm). For this study scholar has chosen rhetoric philosophy as in-depth
analysis of self-awareness concepts has to be undertaken.

Figure 1: Research Methodology
Research Approach
The scholar has adopted research approach of qualitative study from quantitative or
qualitative approach (Bernard, 2012). To avoid complexity of calculations involving wide range
of quantitative data, scholar will collect and examine qualitative data, which are primarily
subjective information. for purpose of inferring results inductive approach, where observations
are made to arrive at facts has been accommodated.
Critical Evaluation of Research Design
A scholar can easily select from exploratory, predictive, explanatory or descriptive
designs (Liamputtong, 2013). Research design allows a research strategy for obtaining findings
of the study. For the purpose of this study as scholar will examine various facts related to self-
awareness, exploratory research design has been adopted.

Research Method
There are several types of research methods available for collecting information. In order
to collect primary data observation of self has been adopted (Christensen, 2011). The scholar
could have easily selected from questionnaires, surveys, focus groups for collecting data but only
observation has been resorted to. The scholar has subjected self to several incidents to note and
collect data accordingly (Hair, 2007).
Data Collection
Data can be collected by either primary or secondary methods. For this study primary
data collection procedure has been adopted from self. Primary data is first hand data source,
whereas secondary data is one, which is obtained from sources as newspapers, books, journals,
articles, internet, magazines and so on (Duriau, 2007). Data for the research primarily includes
paintings collections and descriptions of incidences. This process that has been discussed is an
expressive approach. The expression of the sense of emotions and feelings are most effectively
described in the literary and artistic works of scholars and painters. The expressive approach will
ensure that the research gets a holistic perception to the process of data collection (Pickard,
2012).
Data Analysis
Qualitative data collected from self has been descriptively analysed by scholar (Smith,
2015).

Ethical Consideration
All reactions and thoughts collected by scholar was true in nature and has not been
amended in any form. All possible biasness in any form has been reduced (Taylor, 2015).
Limitations
The study has made use of data analysis of only scholar hence is limited in scope.
Though the scope of the study can be extended in the future by accommodating more perspective
or data into scope.
