CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Background to Research Topic
The concept of leadership is mainly associated and related with an act of guiding and driving
a team or group of individuals in order to achieve or accomplish a specific goal by the means of
effective motivation and direction (Bui, 2020). Thus, leadership encourages and motivate other
to take actions and perform activities in a more efficient and viable way to get success and better
results in more efficient and effective way (Sethibe and Steyn, 2017). Leadership is taken as
important and viable at workplace of all organisations as it leads to higher level of performance
in employees through motivating people and building strong human relation (Mohanty and
Mohanty, 2018). Further, leadership is also vital to set a balance and coordination among all the
employees and other resources to reduce the chances of chaos and confusion at workplace. Apart
from this, effective direction and motivation is also provided by leadership to ensures that all
resources operates in proper coordination for accomplishment of set objectives (Khan, 2020).
Therefore, current study is conducted to analysis about the overall impact of leadership on the
success of an organisation within automotive sector while operating in UK.
Background to Research Organisation
The organisation selected for current research project is Aston Martin which is a well known
British independent manufacture and marketer of luxury sports car and other types of automotive
vehicle. Aston martin is a multinational company operating in various countries of world and the
main headquarter of which is located at Gaydon, Warwickshire, England, UK. At present a high
level of competition is faced by Aston Martin from larger number of competitors operating in
UK comprising of Rolls Rouse, Bentley, Jaguar and many more thus, some better strategies and
ways are needed by Aston martin to overcome this threat of high competition (Khan, 2020).
Therefore current investigation is undertaken on Aston Martin to analysis the impact of
leadership on the success of an organisation within automotive sector while operating in UK so

that better motivation and guidance can be provided to its employees to have enhanced
performance and better efficiency level.
Research Rationale
The selection of current research topic is rationale as it lead to better information about the
concept and importance of leadership within a firm. Further, a better analysis about the impact of
leadership is facilitated by current project that is important for an orgnisation to have higher
motivation and performance level in employees for better success and timely accomplishment of
organisational goals. Beside this, impact of effective leadership in leading enhanced success and
various issues and risk that leads to ineffective leadership are also analysed to provide effective
ways and strategies that ensures implication of better leadership at workplace to enhance overall
success and performance of a firm (Turner, 2019). Apart from this, selection of current research
topic is also viable and important from the personal and academic view point of researcher as
ensures enhanced knowledge and improved managerial skills.

The main aim behind conducting current dissertation is, “To evaluate about the concept and
importance of leadership along with analysing its impact in success of an organisation in
automotive sector within UK”. A research project on Aston Martin

What is meant by the concept of leadership
According to Andersen, Bjørnholt, Bro, And Holm-Petersen, 2018, Leaders are made
not born if a person have the desire and willpower then he or she will become an effective
leader. According to the viewpoint of Avik Chattopadhyay, Auto mobile industry is the high
profile sector and their leaders are having calibre to always be in limelight. Within automotive
sector leadership play an important role because it enhance the overall market share and
maintain prominence within members. For an organisation it is very essential to examine the
leaders outside related to sales functions from human resources of company because they have
different perspective of business. To encourage workers into team work good leaders are
continuously working on them that helps in enhancing their leadership skills. Leadership is the
process that is useful to influence the other people to attain the objectives and directs the
organisation effectively. The core of leadership concept is to present the honourable character
and selfless services to the business enterprise. Within organisation especially auto-mobile sector
leadership play a significant role because leaders are everything for employees that helps in
attaining overall objectives and also their well beings.
As per the viewpoint of Emma Cullan, 2021 Digitalisation is causing transformation
within auto mobile industry it is very beneficial for companies to hire a leader who effectively
influence other people towards achieving the targets. In this author stated that digitalisation
majorly impacted the leadership because of high demand of digital talent changes are to occur
within the employees working habits and several other factors that a leaders needs to adopts for
working proactively to ensure that an organisation are ready for digital transformation.

Leadership are very important for automotive industry in this leaders are developing trust and
confidence to satisfy their employees so that they work effectively by attracting the customers. In
auto mobile industry employees satisfaction is highly important because they directly linked with
the customers satisfaction. In this if leaders communicate the guidelines and policies effectively
and clearly to their employees than it will reflects the key success within competitive
marketplace. Within Automotive industry new leadership is to be implemented for new
generation of employees. Because as a leader it is very essential to adopts a leadership style
which is effective for attaining the goals and values of a team. This could be done by adding the
perks like remote working related to technology used at the working place. To understand the
new generations of employees leaders could effectively understand the work place culture and
values by using digital technology. To understand the leadership effectively, leader create a
tactics that is essential for making the employees happy and satisfied so that they will retain for a
longer period of time within competitive marketplace. Within auto mobile industry, digitalisation
is to be increased where leaders needs to coach their employees to enhance the skills and
knowledge of workers regularly. This will reflects the importance of leadership within auto
mobile industry.
What is the impact of effective leadership on leading enhanced success for business
According to Barr, And Dowding, 2019 for leading success appropriate leadership style
is necessary in order to exhibit higher success within business. The entire organisation this is
imperative that they inhale appropriate leadership style so that to attract new opportunities
within business and to admire customers in better way. Besides this all the business
organisations are requisite to inculcate such efforts by which they can put high emphasis over
managing overall workforce in significant manner. Businesses are appropriately utilising
leadership so as to acquire resources in prominent manner and to grab all those efforts which
could lead the business to manage risk and mitigate the same. A successful leader is having trait
to understand needs of business and then propose plan of action so as to gain long end success
within business organisation. All the associated parties to the organisation are having major need
to align their efforts with organisational objectives in such a way that the entire objectives can be
attained. Leaders are leading an organisation by giving it appropriate role and delegation in such
a way that overall accountability can be rendered and along with this purpose can be met by
them in direct manner.

way that quality and overall effectiveness within business can be enhanced. Besides this these
relationships are heavily managed by employees and leaders as with the help of healthy
relationships conflicts can be avoided and the same may lead into taking out appropriate
outcomes as well. A leader is the person who recognises opportunities within any adverse
situation so effective style of leadership is making movements to utilise resources in effective
manner so that organisational goals can be aligned and attained as well. Each and every business
is working to deal with organisational objectives and leaders are having role to manage the same
and taking feedbacks as well so that these efforts can be aligned for long time of period.
There is numerous leadership style which can be used by leaders in order to deal with
business working. These leadership styles are selected on the basis of business requirements and
business objectives. In the context of Automotive industry the major risk existed within industry
is changing of trends and in this case requirement of leadership is lying with managing these
trends in effective manner so that overall objectives can be achieved and new emerging trends
can be exerted within business as well. In the presence of effective leadership automotive
industry can sense any coming failure and inhale precautionary measures as well so that goals
within business can be attained. Situation leadership style is prominently used within automotive
industry as there are various situations which are uncertain in the business and in order to deal
with the same needs and projection of the business are exerted by leaders. Effective style of
leadership is most essentially used within business as this leads business movement in such
direction in which goals and aims can be aligned in direct and positive manner.
In the industry of automotive there are various changes that are being inhaled and
managed within this industry. These changes are highly requisite to be undertaken and in order to
acquire market efficacy. Leaders are keenly managing all the changes within their business in
such a way that sophistication within business functions can be acquired and the same are
enlightened within working so that overall prominence can be attained. All the functions of
leaders are well maintained by leadership styles and for gaining higher success effective
leadership styles are keeping appropriate edge and importance. Optimal results are one of the
major measurements for measuring success within industry of automotive industry and effective
leadership is one of the significant movement that can be exerted by business in order to acquire
results in sufficient manner. Leaders are the person who are influencing working people with
