APPLIED BUSINESS RESEARCH AND ETHICS3IntroductionThe digital scent technology is one of the latest olfactory technologies that consider theengineering discipline which is concerned with the art of feeling of the different senses (DiFuccio et al. 2016). This technology is increasingly used by the companies to transmit, sense andreceive the various smell related attributes of their digital media tools such as video games, webpages, music and movies. The sensing part of this new technology is being created through theuse of electronic noses and olfactometers (Faden, Beauchamp and Kass 2014). XYZ network iseager to understand the emotional state of their customers in such a manner that the process isconsidered to be ethical (Di Fuccio et al. 2016). They are eager to find out the effect of smells onthe users and how it impacts the act of updating the self- social media page. It is important tounderstand the customer behavior, which does not violate the ethical values. The companystrives to engage in the research process without compromising the ethical aspects. Apart fromthis, XYZ is also eager to know if the emotional states of the customers can be altered and howit can be tapped in a positive manner. This research process would commence with the brief literature that would understandthe existing research made by various authors. The gaps of this literature would be identified,which would be the primary focus of this research. It would be followed by an in-depth researchmethodology, which would include the process of data collection and data analysis in detail. Literature ReviewAs opined by Gosain and Sajwan (2014), there have been significant changes in the smellperception and the related olfactory communication, which is also used for various businesspurposes.
