INTRODUCTION Motivation is a process of encouraging employees so that they perform their assigned task and roles in effective manner in term of accomplishing business goals and objectives. For this the leader of the venture adopts different leadership styles and techniques to inspire workforce (Ghauri, Grønhaug and Strange, 2020). This respective report is based on Tesco Plc which is a retail firm and now it’s is going to open a discount store named Jack Stores. The document will cover information about motivational concepts and merits or demerits of them. MAIN BODY Motivation is acknowledge as a important component that encourage employees to execute task as per provided guidelines of the venture. When organisations consider efficient measures to satisfy the requirement of employees, it creates a sense of trust in workers and they lean to become more engaged to the firm. They perform well and help the firm in term of accomplish its set business goals and objectives in effective manner on time. Theories of Motivation Tesco is a British retail sector British multinational organisation which has been leading the domestic market over the course of time. It is felt by the top administration of venture that ay by day the level of rivalry is increasing. There are number of competitors like LIDL and ALDI which provide their commodities on discount pricing so they have large market and number of consumers. So to gain competitive advantages, the management of Tesco has announced to launch Jack stores in future. This kind of outlets deal with top retailer that already offer their goods and services on discount prices. The administration of respective can used different motivational concepts like Maslow hierarchy and Adams equity theory etc. in term of motivating employees who are performing their roles and responsibilities in these kinds of stores. Maslow needs hierarchy theory It is one of the most effective concepts of motivation that is utilised to present the requirement of the employees distressing the firm in term of a pyramid. This theory of motivation can be considered by management of Tesco to encourage its employees for working in Jack stores by satisfying their needs and demands (Opstad, 2018). The explanation of this theory in term of needs regarding Tesco as below: 1
Physiological needs- It include basic need of people related to food, clothes and shelter that can be fulfil by providing a good pay and sufficient salary (Ahmed and Kabir, 2018). For example, In Tesco, the management can offer effective to those employees who will work in Jack stores so that they can survive appropriately in term of satisfying their basic needs. Safety and security needs- This needed can be fulfilled by the management of Jack stores by offering insurance and other medicalamenities. If thisneeded will be satisfied then employees feel safe and perform their duties and work for growth and development of company. Social needs- In Tesco, the administration of company fulfil this need of Jack stores employees by making open communication so that they can share their issues and complexities with their seniors. If the workforce has proper support of employer then this need can be fulfil. Esteem needs- This level of needs can be fulfil by the firm by providing proper respect, esteem etc. to employees. In Tesco, the management rewarded employees by determining their good execution in Jacks stores. The people who perform well are respected by other persons of the organisation. Self actualisation needs- This extent of need related to development and growth of workforce. So in Tesco, the administration can provide training, learning and development sessions so that workforce of Jack Stores can make development in their skills and knowledge. It will help in developing them personal and professional level. Advantages and disadvantages of Maslow Theory Merits- This concept of motivation is easy and simple and can understand in effective manner. It is dynamic as it expresses motivation as a changing attribute from one level to next. Demerits-The main disadvantage of this theory is that is very complex to measure the fulfilment which one gets after fulfilling each extent of requirements because it is subjective in nature and deal with human minds. Adam's Equity theory of motivation It is other concept of motivation which is implemented by the firms to maximise the morale of the employees of the company. This theory works on the postulations that company should offer equal treatment to all employees (Quinlan and et. al., 2019). Jack Stores involves making sure that the inputs of the employee that are made by them in term of working hours, loyalty of the organisation and workforce commitment , are met with proper and appropriate outputs such as reward, performance appraisal, incentives and many more. In Tesco, the administration of the firm can ensure that the employees in Jack Stores keep motivated at all time and implement their all efforts for the growth and success of venture. It would pertain argument of supportive efficiency on the parts of employees to deal with extensive rivalry in retail sector. Advantages and disadvantages of Adams Equity Theory Merits- This conception is capable to add to both theory and activity of encouragement and also devises managers understand that equity motivate tends to be one of the effective purpose of the employees of enterprise (Siltanen, 2020). Demerits- It is difficult to evaluate the insight if the employee regarding inputs and outputs ratio. This concept does not consider all motivation factors. CONCLUSION This has been summarised form preceding define information that motivation is an effective process and activity of encouraging people of a company so that they can perform their work and ask in effective manner and focus on accomplish their set objective in term of their effective achievement. By using effective theory and concept of motivation an organisation can motivate its employees so that they perform their job role in term of improving brand image, enhancing productivity and increasing profit margins of the business venture in more appropriate manner. 3
